I’m trying to install one on mine, but my new opener has to have board replaced. Only thing I did different was I cut the inside of the end cap on roller door to fit the opener. And I ran 2x4 down the side about 3 feet so I could get all three fasteners through it. Hey, whatever works. Haha wish me luck.

Your can bolt on a steel block weight to the door behind the handle to help get the door started by itself.
@Mr.Handy-ish

A couple others have suggested that, too. The second one I installed actually came with one in the package. I had no clue what it was for 🤣. Thanks! Have a great day.

You need to add a piece of 1-1/2 x 1/8 angle to the bottom of the door. No more weight than you are adding the opener can handle it and that little bit of weight you add will help keep the curtain tight when the door is traveling downwards. Trust me and try it and ask me how I know
@Mr.Handy-ish
@Mr.Handy-ish Год назад
Yes...the added weight has made it work well....the second opener I bought actually came with a heavy piece of iron that I didn't know what it was for at first. I feel like you've got a good story when you say "Ask me how I know". Do tell!

@@Mr.Handy-ish I’ve been installing garage doors for about 15 years and the past 7 years I’ve been doing it for myself and when you do it for a living for yourself it’s not just a pay check, it’s your reputation to do a good job and do it right the first time cause I’ve done lots of service call behind other garage door companies and there is no way that the people doing the work had any idea what they were doing and those are the people who do it just for a check and at the end of the day there screw ups will fall on the shoulders of the people that they work for and as for my self I’m not leaving basically a 500 guillotine installed wrong or done half assed but I see other so called installers do it all the time and I have no idea how they have gotten as far as they have

@@Mr.Handy-ish Looking back on it now there is one place I worked for 3 years installing garage doors and they were the most shady people I’ve ever met that could not tell the truth no matter what they were talking about and I still blows my mind that I was there that long. I noticed on your door felt strips are on your drum up top, mine are on the door left and right side top to bottom not on drum. Yours seems to opperate smooth on the way down.
@Mr.Handy-ish
@Mr.Handy-ish 5 месяцев назад
Not sure if I'm reading you right..my doors have felt all along the side (where it is in the tracks). None that I can see ON the drum. Mine doesn't always go up and down perfectly...sometimes it shimmies a bit. Works, though!
@timd5597
@timd5597 5 месяцев назад
Okay I didn't see that yours is riding in the track. Mine clunks and shimmy's especially on the way down. I'm thinking it is because the high and low spots on the garage door ribs are not nesting tight together then on way down slack in door slips causing noise. Think that's what felt is for maybe adding a middle strip as well.
@Mr.Handy-ish
@Mr.Handy-ish 5 месяцев назад
@@timd5597 yeah...the felt is to quiet the door and make it slide easier. Mine does what you describe a little bit (not enough to worry or bother me, though). I wonder if some silicone spray on the tracks and felt occasionally would help it slide.

Thanks for the video. Great help. I have a door that I have manually rolled up and down and am about to install this opener. I would imagine i need to back off the tension since the opener will do the work now? Just curious to ensure I don’t mess something up
@Mr.Handy-ish

I didn't adjust the tension on my doors a bit. These openers can be adjusted for more or less force required, but I didn't need to. Best of luck and thanks for watching and making my day! I love to hear folks were helped one way or another by my videos.

I think the manual shows how to give options.... I'll see about dropping a quick instruction video as soon as I get a chance!....update, POSTED. Look for a new video with the same start of title, but ends with "programming the remotes"!!
@pm9dcr2001
@pm9dcr2001 Год назад
@@Mr.Handy-ish After a butt load of trail and error: SW2 corresponds to the 4 buttons on ANY remote. Once you program your control unit to 'talk' to a remote, then the settings on SW2 determine which button is 'listened' too. SW2 Top to bottom (position 4,3,2,1), corresponds to remote buttons SMALL(4), SMALL(3), LARGE(2) and LARGE(1) So in my implementation, the large door has SW2 set 4=on, 3=off, 2=off and 1=on The small door has SW2 set 4=off, 3=off, 2=on and 1=on This config results in this behavior Top small button opens BOTH doors Next small button opens ONLY small door Next Large button NO OP Last Large button opens ONLY large door yeah, it's complicated.

That's a great question. I don't have a good answer. It came cut back, and I never considered it. I've been running the first one I installed for a couple years now and this one since the publication date on this video with no issues, though. Perhaps it has something to do with the motor being DC. Oftentimes, DC electronics don't have a dedicated ground...but I'm only Handy-ish, and no electrical engineer! Sorry I couldn't help more. Here's hoping someone else will post a better response.

@@Mengles134 They are not the easiest to figure out, for sure. On page nine in my manual it mentions a "learning button" for the control box. It was only button near the small switches that control each of the buttons on the remote control, so it was a guess. No other buttons in there that I could see.

They've really been great... I'm quite happy. I forced them to work on doors they're not made for (brand/style), and they're still dealing with my modification without fail. The range is good on the remotes, too. I haven't had any kind of failure yet, on either of my two. Thanks for watching and for the question!

@@Mr.Handy-ish what size opening are they for? I don’t see how wide the door is..
@Mr.Handy-ish
@Mr.Handy-ish 3 месяца назад
They could handle different height or width doors, it just has to match the END of the door roll...where it "plugs" into the roll needs to be right style. That's why I ended up cutting bits off of mine. I'm not great at explaining this, because I'm not an expert, but if the end of the roll matches the "prongs" on the opener, it'll work. The manual mentions it can work with different height doors, but I don't think it mentions width. In the community tab of my channel, I posted pictures of the manual. Might be of interest to you. It's the last thing I posted there.

@@Mr.Handy-ish I am glad it all worked out. I have yet to install an opener on my 10x10x10 but I have been researching it to see what is best for a self-install. Also, screw in self-tapping screws on the last section (each side) that still touches the metal drum when in the down position. That will give you less play on the door and that section is not used anyway. Have a great day.
