Love that you got yourself a TLR. I hope you try the square format more on your road trip. It's a great challenge for composition and you have grown as photographer a lot over the last few years.

The Rolleicord Va & Vb also offer the 6X4.5 adaptor (known as the 16 exposure kit), but pay attention to the type. The black set is for the Va, the set with the orange type mask is for the Vb - this is important as the mask for the viewfinder goes under the screen of the Vb, but on top of the screen for the Va and they won't interchange.

If you're going to shoot your Rollei sideways then you might consider a short shutter cable and pinch the body of the camera between your thumb and first two fingers. But you really knew that and were just making the rest of the Rollei shooting world have to work for it, didn't you. -a random mike

finally a Rolleiflex being tortured by Jason... shoot at waist-level in full 6x6 !! As a 3.5E owner I have to say how phenomenal these cameras perform, when they're well serviced. The Planar and Xenar lenses are sharp as hell... I also love to use my Rolleinar Kit for some simple macros...

What you really want is a Mamiya Six V. It's a 6x4.5 capable folder from the 50's that won't break the bank like the modern variant.

Yknow at first i was down with the whole use every aspect ratio possible but uploading this in 645 and then shrinking the image down to be framed better effectively making the image take up not even 15% of my phone screen on 720p makes me think its not the most resolution friendly idea which was the entire point of switching to a medium format travel camera

Oh. This would be about the first big high quality video about this camera. I personally shoot one of those and this 70 to 80 year old lady shoots better fotos than anything other in my arsenal.

My T was passed on to me by my grandpa. I'm always a little scared to take it to more demanding spots (weather and such) and tried substituting it with a chinese TLR. The latter broke, now I might try a Yashicamat or similar. Anyway, I absolutely love my Rolleiflex. Apart from one hickup from the shutter, It worked like a charm through every roll

The Rolleiflex T should have parallax correction if im not wrong so even at close focus you shouldnt be having any problems. Maybe with those Yashica adapters. Also the Tessars are amazing for portraits, like to the point that some people who have Rolleis with Planars and Xenotars get a T just for the softness. The prism takes away the cool TLR feature of being able to shoot through a filter while not focussing through it as well, thats why Rolleis dont have through the lens metering. You wouldve probably had a better time just metering shots with your phone.

You probably considered it already of course, but wouldn't a classic Mamiya M645 fit the purpose? I don't recall it being much heavier than a TLR and about the same size. But hey, if it works, it works! Awesome shots! ❤

I love those Rolleiflex T''s. I have one and have used it for years. It is a very solid performer. I also have a 500 CM with the metered prism like yours. I had no idea you could use them together like that. I would really like to get one of these adapters. Where did you get yours? could you please respond with the info. As for the wide and telephoto lenses for Yashica, I also have a Yashica 124G with those two lenses as a kit. However, if you get the Rolleiflex wide and telephoto, for some reason they attach better, even though both Rollei and Yashica are Bay I. I think it has to do with the manufacturing tolerances. Nice video, one of the better once in the recent times.

Hmm, which bayonet does the Rolleiflex T use? The Yashica converters are for bayonet 1, and do work without problems on the Yashica Mat models they were made for (if you ignore the loss in image quality, which makes the teleconverter more or less useless). I found one source stating that, yes, the Rolleiflex T also uses bayonet 1. But if I compare my Rolleicord III with my Yashica Mat-124 G, the Rollei bayonet is a bit flimsy and thinner in material thickness than the Yashica bayonet. And my Yashica wideangle and telephoto converters don't quite fit to the Rolleicord (the wideangle does, even though a bit tight), so I would not recommend to use them on Rollei cameras! (It is not about the weight, but slightly different dimensions; Rollei accessories do fit better on Yashica cameras than vice versa.) And regarding parallax: There's parallax compensation for 6x6 (slightly shifting the upper and lower borders beneath the focusing screen) on nearly all Rollei TLRs, even on the Rolleicord III. But since you used the 6x4.5 mask, you lose this feature. So don't complain … ;-)

Pentax 645N might be good for you. Its not a LOT bigger than full frame digital, good lenses. Autofocus. Aperture and shutter priorities. And its the most logical camera there is.

As usual a great video, full of technical porridge, creative planning and failures, nothing like Test Pilot's Butterfingers! Adapters on lens, maybe a pass! The Rollei-T was built for price(lower) left out Auto load! Gained 4 frames but unless a prism, you gonna have upside-down images! Oh! T=Ted! Yup like that infamous Teddy Bear! Rollei fired the designer! Bad fault, uses plastic rubbery belts to move f-stops and shutter speeds.. It can wear out. So many folks Re-Discover those 2 eyed monsters.. The Mamiyaflex Series in a far away universe! That's the only choice!

Do built in meters really work for Chromes? I never nad much faith in them. Well I played with some Contax cameras and Chromes and got lovely results. But medium format? Maybe if it was a Rollei 6006 or the more advanced Hasselblads...

I thought about getting a Yashicaflex. I don't really like 6X6 either. I have a roll of black and white in this old Brownie Hawkeye point and shoot from the early 60s. I think I have about four shots left on the roll. I am not sure when I'll finish it.

curious why you didn't look into the Mamiya C220 or 330? especially considering the interchangeable lenses would've allowed for wider focal lengths0

Vivian Maier would be proud! Not sure if you can add Rollei .7x and 1.5x Mutars to bay 1 with bay 2 adaptors 🤔. I use the Mutars on my 2.8F with excellent result above F5.6.

Dude you be you man and it is entertaining…but…the whole point of the square camera is to NOT do the cockeyed twisting of the camera you are doing. Shoot square and edit to 645 later…either vertically or horizontally. Of course you already know this so either a) you are just puposefully making extra work for yourself, b) adding some good humor into the situation, c) badly want those few extra shots per roll. Thanks for doing these videos man they are totally fun.

I really enjoyed this video thank you. When I go out on my vintage Matchless motorcycle I use a 6x9 Ikonta folding camera. You might like it. It's not square, you can take a portrait format photo easily and it is a LOT lighter and smaller than the Rolleiflex. I do have a question for you. Is it actually legal for an American film photography RU-vidr to take photos of something that isn't derelict?

okey stupid question but isnt a mamiya 645 basicly what jason is looking for? no 'vibrations might kill me' rangefinder, also 645, smaller and lighter than the rolleiflex, you can shoot portrait without looking like you forgot how to use a camera, there are several metered viewfinders, changable focus screens and you can shoot 220 film if you somehow are able to find any (okey it hat an electric shutter but at least it uses batteries you can still buy) why is the mamiyamigo not using a mamiya i need to know

The Seagull TLRs (and their folding cameras) have the ability to shoot both 645 and square format as well, if anyone is curious about using TLRs but dislikes 6x6.

Jason, after seeing this I gotta say you like doing things in ways to mess with our minds. Just go buy a Mamiya 645J with a standard lens, or get a 55mm wide angle (or a 35, if you really want wide). You'll save a ton of $$ and the camera works so well with either a waist level finder or an eye-level prism. Francke & Heidecke's ghosts are gonna trip you up and pour sand into your shorts.

- 6x6 square format actually is 645 with a built-in shift range of 1,5 cm and without the need to turn the camera sideways for a portrait shot. - Those tele and wide adapters are godawful. The original Rollei versions are somewhat better but way too expensive nowadays. - Wanting a lightweight camera and then slapping this monster of a prism finder on top of it is just stupid. Use the waist-level finder and all's fine. - If the Tessar lens isn't tack sharp then something is wrong with it. While its resolution isn't stellar, its sharpness is beyond any doubt. It has been known as the eagle-eye for a reason.

I got myself that same Yashica addon (it's a tele) for my 124g as it was supposed to work... it ruined 3 rolls from Portugal. Now I never take untested gear anywhere abroad.

You can get, and I have on, a mask ser 6x4.5 and a 6x3 for Hasselblad. Love it...GRINS

I know you probably did think of it but why not go for a folding bellows camera? cheap, small and mechanical you can even get 6x7 variants for the extra medium format resolution.
