The best years of my life the 70's. We all had the best times and good memories. We also had the best generation. I'm so glad we had good parents were raised properly. Not like these frickin punks from the late 80's till now. Man they are so frickin stupid and think there so cool. They don't know what cool is.
You can hate on disco music all you want, but you don’t realize how much it brought people of all races and religions together in such a talented and beautiful way!! Those stunts are freaking INCREDIBLE!!!!😲 ❤️
THE HATERS OF DISCO ALL CAME FROM THE EVANGELICAL RIGHT BECAUSE "DISCO" CAME OUT OF THE "GAY" UNDERGROUND CLUBS AND BECAME A HUGE SUCCESS ! THE EVANGELICAL RIGHT WILL ALWAYS BE SATAN'S BEST ADVOCATE !
@@TheoneGodfather Fair enough, but things from past eras, ALWAYS come back!! (Just look at fashion now. I see soooo many 80’s inspired clothing!!!!) In music, the disco funk, is becoming more prevalent in pop culture. It’s just slightly “tweaked” for today’s audience!!!!
La mejor época fueron los 70's, disfrutábamos tanto la vida, la música, no era como ahora: miedo por todo, gente tan mala, créanme que el mundo era muy diferente y esta canción la baile un millón de veces 😊🎉
Yep, and I’m one of those kids and I’m close to 60. Boy, what days those were. No cell phones, nobody taking selfies the whole time, or anyone eating Tide Pods. Just having a good time and enjoying the music. Earth, Wind, and Fire were very groovy.
I was 11 too! I remember the fear , anxiety , and courage to skate out in the rink with the incredible skaters. Once I was on the floor I stayed on the the floor!!
I notice, mainly, that when I watch this older stuff from the 80's and before, that there are very few obese people. Watch something from nowadays, and almost everyone is heavy. Back then it was the exception, now it's the rule.
I am really grateful my childhood was in the 60's-70's time frame. The music was insane! I also miss those times because there were no computers. Life was simpler...we knew a lot less and could get away with a lot more! Social media, imo, has been very destructive to humanity.
Yes, I sure miss those days, too. All the young people who go around calling us Boomers and all that have their day coming, that’s for sure. They think that laughing at us is just so funny, but some day they will be on the receiving end of it. I know that a good number of young people in our day laughed at older people, but I sure never did. I grew up around my older aunts and uncles and if I EVER would have laughed at any of them because they were old I would have had my butt whipped and it would have been deserved. And I truly loved and respected my aunts and uncles so I just never had the idea to laugh at any older people. I always enjoyed hearing their stories. Little did we know what all of the handheld devices would do to the world and how it all would accelerate the world toward what seems like we’re heading toward some kind of ultimate culmination of this world. I’m just waiting on the leaves to fall. (If you don’t know what that means, just search it on Bing.)
When I look back at that time I see an authentic interaction and hedonism between people. That definitely doesn't exist now. The culture had quality works in music, movies, series, animations and comics. Books were much better, inspiring many screen adaptations. People went out to the movies, out to lunch or dinner, went to a game, played sports, or just talked while drinking, playing dominoes, cards, board games, etc ... All this has been replaced by social media and cell phones with the paranoia called political correctness that divides society. Thank you Steve & Mark. Was it worth it?
I wanted to go skating so bad when I was a kid! All the kids went on Friday nights. But my dad would never let me. My cousin took me on my 16th birthday without my folks knowing! Had soooo much fun! Wonderful childhood memory!❤
Interestingly enough, I just visited in CT a roller facility where roller skating still dominates in 2019. The place looks like it is from the early 1980s and it was packed on a Saturday afternoon that I visited. A few wore rollerblades but it was 97% roller skating. It actually was amazing to see the place so busy like this video.
I wouldn't do it these days but it's a common place to leave your kids for an afternoon while you take off to do something else. You can't leave or you have to have a stub or repay to re-enter.
@@andrewbarchenger2010 "I wouldn't do it these days but it's a common place to leave your kids for an afternoon while you take off to do something else." And YOU are the problem.
Kids of today have no clue how fun life was back then. We didn't have electronic games or cell phones to ruin our minds with. I do remember pong but that was all except for arcade games and such but man what a time to be alive and not have to worry about the things this world is going through now. I would hate to raise a child in todays world. Sure we had conflicts around the world like today but the living was much simpler back then and it was just a blast! besides I was just a teen so we didn't worry like I do now in my 60's.
I was born in 73, but one thing I admire about the 70's and early 80's was that we weren't obsessed with fashion. I realize there were fads and style, but teen girls would go to school in ragged sweatshirts and what we consider today to be weekend grubbies.
These were the best of times, the likes we may never see again. We had a few skaters that could do the tricks but most of us just skated to the rhythm of the music. I had a guy who tried to teach me a skating move. It was a disaster. I took both of us to the floor. Lol.
Jim Bray & Linda Blair! The intro with Cher still gives me goosebumps. Reckon I watched this movie more than a dozen times. Then there's TGiF, Sat Night Fever, Can't Stop The Music, Xanadu...How I missed the old days!!
Brings back memories of when I was a kid. Of course everyone else around me knew how to boogie to the music and then there was me just skating around in circles, but I had fun just the same. Have funny memories of when one of my cousins lost his balance and, trying to still "look cool" in front of all the girls at the rink, nearly fell but went into a "whoa yeah!" dance position sliding down on one knee like he meant to do that before regaining his balance. Nice save, cousin. 🤣
Me either, but was looking for Disco oldies and this popped up,cannot believe I also use to go to a roller ring with my friends and trust me,we did not skate as good as these skaters🤣
I just bought me a pair of vintage white roller skates with red wheels complete with carrying case emblazoned with "The Fairyside" rink that was in Cottage Grove, Oregon
Love this movie! I loved being a teen in the 80's, the music, the movies and no internet. Just good fun no cells phones so we really talked to people, none of that texting jazz. Ahhh the good old days.
Roxy Roller _ Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas - Brasil. Nice memories! Me, Monique Evans, my sister, my friends. All the elite of the beautiful people of Rio de Janeiro rollerskating and grooving alltogether!❤
As a teen, we went to the Empire Rollerdome on Eastern Pkwy in Brooklyn, NY. Friday and Saturdays were the best back in the early 70's. Not unusual to see some of the stars of the day back then just having a good time.
Agreed. If rinks were around today everyone would have their phones out so they could post it on their social media accounts. Nobody would be talking to one another instead they'd all be on their phones.
@bobblowhard8823 I was 16 when this came out. Every Saturday i was at the skating rink either skating or playing pinball and listening to good music. Those were the days!
@@josebro352I used to go ice skating twice a week in grad school . I actually did see a girl.stopped dead in a corner with her phone. Not getting shots or footage of skaters, just talking. It's like, okay, you want to waste the rink time you paid for?
I miss those days. Everything seemed free and full of possibility. Being in the middle of a huge group, skating in circles. It was like a force of nature. Being swept up in a current. You were just pulled along. It's terrible the kids now a days will never experience that sense of freedom. what with this horrible social distancing in every manner.
The guy all over the place and acting as though he cant skate is absolutley hilarious, and it cracks me up, he does a great job of being a menace to others on the rink..
I remembered when this movie premiered by the eighties roller skates became fashionable , besides the star of the film Jim Bray was an artistic skating champion . By those years , the soundtrack of the movie was played on radio stations very often ….
I dont know why or how anyone could possibly hate Disco 🤔 the beat is also perfect for dancing where you dont get tired out and you can dance for hours .great exercise too
Someone should open some disco rinks and disco clubs across the land Today and let these yunguns learn what Real dancing and skating is all about. Everybody would dress 70's style and have a blast instead of fighting and killing! 💃🕺
Man, I forgot how much changed just from 1977-79 and the disco era to 1980 with a major change in music with British and German synth pop, and early house. In just 3 years everything changed.
This is what we all thought we looked like at the local roller rink, although the reality was a bit different! I was definitely like the guy in the blue crash helmet :)
my brother married a canadian women back in 80s an she showed us her skating skills wow she could skate i was blown away she said we grew up ice skating so roller skating was easy
Other than the exorcist I loved Linda Blair in this show. I got my first roller skates when they were adjustable and all metal made to wear with shoes...❤😊
Dang that was fun when I went! The cool air when I was moving, the beat, the idea of you had to jump in and move so no one got hurt..... I think it actually helped me drive better on the highway in California, and other places.... (I have never thought of that, but it is the same idea, you look for a good spot, get in, keep up the speed, watch for what is going on around you, if someone falls go around safely, pay attention while all sorts of distractions going on around you!) Yup, it definitely helped with that. I had a special outfit I wore when I got a little older, like 16, and I felt so powerful! I want to do it again right now, and I am 69. There are no rinks around me though! Anyway, thank you for sharing this video!
Oh my goodness... where I skate there are many people in their 60' 70's and a couple 80's skating around the rink and really jamming to the music. It's great and inspiring to watch and skate amongst them. They skate during the adults only skate sessions because at other times it's really crowded and you have to dodge the kids who tend to fall/stop right in front of you (too easy to trip over).
This video makes me smile . They are having a good time without anything negative going on . When you are young you should be having fun and having smiles from ear to ear . 👍🏻❤
In 1983-1984 one of my coworkers had been an extra in a roller disco movie, and it might've been this one, although I don't remember anymore. Of course this fad flared up and died down within a short time, and movies like this died with that.
I remember causing a huge pile up crash at the local roller rink. The movie is only partially correct, as learners would also be using the rink with the pros. 😂
YOU DO sound like an old person, kind clueless, no offense. If you brought kids back in time to 1978, they'd ask to return to present day Kids today are different, it's reality.
