Great comparison for those who want to make an informed decision. It's also cool that you had a friend to rollerskate next to you, for an easier comparison. It does kill my ear though, when people say "verse," instead of "versus." Two entirely different concepts.

A good desperate stopping technique is to get low then drop to a seated position. A bad desperate stopping technique is crashing into something or trying to grab something while your legs slide out from under you.

Also: rollerskates are a bit safer for people whose knees dislocate easily. The teetering side to side on inline skates when trying to find your balance can definitely cause a kneecap to dislocate (especially if you have damaged ligaments). Roller skates put much less stress on your ligaments so they are a great option for those of us who want to skate in spite of bad knees!

When I was a kid, everyone had a pair of roller blades and literally every kid outside would be on them and every store seemed to have them on sale. I don't know what happened but the next summer all the sales disappeared and no kid was playing on them anymore. The last two decades, I honestly don't think I've seen them sold in any major retailer aside from maybe a couple dedicated sports stores and definitely not seen anyone skate outside either. I have done both and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages… Rollerblades are faster and your center of balance is in the center/back of your foot because of the flat design, making it easier to go side to side for speed. Roller skates / quads are slower but easier to balance on, and it’s much easier to turn in quads which is great for dancing… however, I do figure skate (on ice) and I’ve gotten so used to that side to side type of balance that I find it easier to balance on rollerblades now because I can move my foot side to side MUCH easier which ultimately gives me more control and allows me to balance for longer. I prefer rollerblades most of the time, but for the chill days or around the house I prefer quads

I was teaching myself to go backwards in the driveway when Zena, our Jack Russell Terrier, ran behind me and I fell, breaking my left wrist, and spraining my right. I never really started skating again, but I wish I had! I’m 35 and pregnant right now, so I definitely shouldn’t try to start again now, but after I have our daughter I might try to pick it up again. I loved the freedom I felt while skating and want to have that again. My husband also used to rollerblade, so maybe we can make it a family thing!

@@i.am.ded.This is true, "rollerblades" are actually called inline skates. If you want to cover pretty long distances, the lower cuff models, sometimes called marathon skates, with 3_5 80-110mm wheels are great. True Speedskates, in my experience, are only good if you truly skate often enough so your ankles get and stay strong. Fit also needs to be tighter and less cushy. Both will also require more strength for the same brake pressure ( if you use a heel brake pad)

Use your toe stops for a boost of speed then try and glide but push your legs hard at the same time and make sure to do it on a flat surface
@queeng508
@queeng508 Год назад
it could be related to the tightness of the screw that regulates the looseness of the wheels or to the material of the wheels (depending on the surface you skate on you will use different wheels. generally if you dont skate on competition rings you will need wheels made of a softer rubber made to skate on concrete/streets, so that they can absorb a bit of the unevenness of the floor. if these are not the problems, it could be simply that your legs have yet to develop the strength to push yourself and the skates forward so you would only need to practice more. hope this helps :)

Was skating outdoor on inlines for 10 years almost every day and had a lot of fun, but about 2½ years ago I starded to play roller derby and I'm having so much more fun on quads. I love doing little foot work stuff that I just can't do on inlines. And the toe stops, they are the most fun thing about quads imo bc you can do so much with them. I also feel more secure going fast on quads because I can just turn around and break on my toe stops, inlines are more limited for high speed breaking, especially on bad asphalt, so I never felt like I could go max speed on them. I also found the inlines I could get at my local sports store to be very fragile, they'd hold up at max 2 years before breaking in a way that wasn't fixable. My first quads now broke as well (rip R3s) but that was to be expected from playing roller derby with that setup. My new ones are great and I'm looking into getting a park skating setup bc I don't like using my derby skates for both (and having to put on and take off slide blocks every time I go to the skate park is kind of annoying imo) Anyway, both are great, but I have a lot more fun with quads (roller skates)

I was given a pair of "inlines"(blades, no idea why we called them inlines lol) when I was 6-7 and my gosh I could not figure out how to comfortably go more than a few feet without losing balance. Started rollerskating at a nearby rink (which has sadly closed) and it just worked so much better for me. I've tried both again recently and blades still don't work for me. I don't think they fit right though, the support was clearly supposed to be there but my ankles just wobbled inside them. So it's skates every time for me, but who knows, maybe I'll pick it up eventually.

Their actual names are “inline skates” not rollerblades. Rollerblade is a company that produces good quality inline skates and was very popular back in the day. We probably just refer to all inline skates as rollerblades because everyone was probably buying from rollerblade before

I learned rollerblading first, and after that, it felt so easy to rollerSKATE. Rollerblading will always be in my heart. Funny enough, I know that my Christmas gift is the cutest pair of rollerblades! My dad cannot keep a secret lol

Love roller blades, I self taught at age 5 with the roller blades then my dad thought I was good enough to drop me in ice skates. Ice skating comes naturally for me. I’m not a pro in either sport just doing it for fun.

I think it just comes down to personal preference, what do you feel most comfortable flying down the road on. I mean if you feel more confident on Rollerblades by all means rollerblade but if you feel best on a set of roller skates well skate to your heart's content.

ive tried both and like skates over blades bc i can stand easier on skates, when i try to stand or anything on blades i fall down bc the blades are all centered down the middle of my foot instead of supporting all sides like skates

Thank you I definitely try those out now I used to have beginners skate cause I was little and I was nervous of falling over I had to say it’s not just a design with the in-line skates. They actually can do more plus a look much more cooler.

what if you made custom roller blades that were splayed out and had two per shoe. would that be the best of both worlds. easy to get into due to the width, easy to balance due to the width, and better heel support due to the length?

As a small kid I loooved rollerblades- I wasn’t good at it but it was still fun! And now as an almost 18 year old, I play roller derby! So I switched to quad skates. Since ive been skating on quads for much longer and actually learned technique, I find roller skating suuuper easy- but definitely annoying on concrete or polished wood cause it’s either too rough or too slippery. I think it just depends on whichever one you grow up learning and adapting to. Whether or not you know how to skate- learning is always gonna be hard no matter the style of skating- so it’s just your preference of how you wanna skate:)

Yep and roller skates on Christmas Day costed my mom and dad 20,000$ and me going to 5 different hospitals and 8 months in a wheel chair. And over 4,000 for new clothes cause I gained weight and physical therapy and lots of gas and drs appointments and pain and my grades and can’t even walk right 2 years later. December 25th 2023 will mark 3 years. And we can’t forget depression anxiety and stress and can’t go back and go what I love. And now my mental health is terrible. It has also costed us 9 ambulance rides my life flashing before my eyes. My sleeping schedule is now 💩 Cause when we got back home from 9 am - 5am next day. Also an eating disorder from not getting to eat that day because they didn’t know it I needed surgery, teachers getting mad at me thro zoom. And did I mention we had Covid the day I broke it too. Yea. That’s what roller skates can do ❤ Also. My mom and fams mental health. And guilt because they bought me the shoes. As well as my whole let was the wrong way. My knee and my heel of my foot should not me seen together at the same time. My knee broke.as well at ankle and 2 bones in my leg also dr author wanted to be the star when it rains storms or snows so yea ALL AT 10 AT THE TIME NOW IM 13 😂 😭😭

I have beginner inliners that are somewhere between inliners and skates. It looks like i will be able to make a decision after i properly try both individually to test it out enough times to know what i want. I suppose we can all have multiple pairs of them when needed.

I used to go to the skating rink every weekend from Friday-Sunday as a pre-teen. I LIVED for the rink. I started on the quads and I just couldn't find my balance so i was constantly falling. I couldn't really afford the extra 3 dollars for the blades because I didnt want to spend the extra money to try them and risk not liking them cause then my whole night would have been ruined, so i just didnt try them for the longest time. Then one day my sisters friend let me try her blades. They were half a size too big but the moment I stepped onto the floor, I new that they were the Skates for me. I switched to blades right away after that and have never used quads since. Quads are a nice introduction to skating, especially for kids but if you're more into speed and have odd ankles like myself, blades are the way to go. I also find tricks to be a lot easier on blades because the quads contradict each other. Switching feet is weird because they are wide and constantly hit the floor. At least for me. Everyone's experiences are different because my sister LIVED for the quads lol. Side note: you said that the quads are more flowy and I see so many people flow so gracefully on them and it just looks so beautiful, but for me the blades are more flowy. I love doing tricks on them. I want to like the quads but I think my brain is just more geared to the blades. I'm also blind in one eye so maybe that has something to do with why the blades are weird for me.

At my skating rink, if you have blades, you’re cool, if you can use the skates you’re talented. You’re automatically 10x cooler if you have Tours, and 100x cooler if you have Missions.

Guys if you are thinking to get roller blades, read this at the bottom. Make sure you think about your feet, some people a pigeon toed or penguin toed, which makes it harder to skate with regular ones. Also if you have flat feet, make sure you get shoe bottoms because it’ll hurt when you start learning how to skate. When you buy skates make sure they are the hard shell boots. They are better than the soft ones. Your feet should always stay straight and if your having trouble to move, put your feet in a v shape and start pushing yourself. If you fall, an easy way to get back up is to put your hands onto a knee, and push yourself up. If you feel like you’re going to fall backwards lean forward just so slightly so you don’t fall. *when your learning, GET A HELMET, KNEE PADS, AND ELBOW PADS! falling in rollerblades are NOT fun*
