I've been struggling with finding motorized blinds for quite a while. Your video is one of the most helpful pieces of info I have encountered in my journey. I will learn from your "misadventures", and give Rollertrol a shot. Many thanks.
Hey! Cool! I actually helped someone. Glad to hear it. FYI, we use ours roughly once a day up and down and in the four months since I posted this they are still working great. The one that was sort of walking off the end hasn't gotten any worse. Good luck.
Excellent video demonstrating your entire experience. I'm sure it will help many looking for answers. Are your shades still working well? Any issues with the fabric quality for fraying or decontamination of the blackout that you initially encountered? Thank you!
@@fiatr.5472 As of 04/05/2020 they are as they were then. The shades seem to be holding up well and the motors and controllers are still working as expected. Thanks for the comment!
thank you x1000000000 for this video, it's absolutely perfect. I found an answer on a forum mentioning rollertrol and think it's exactly what i was looking for. this video will make it soo much more digestible to try it out.
Nice video. I have one question. Since you can change the direction controlled by the remote, why not just flip the blind on the horizontal axis versus rerolling the blinds? The brackets looked like they would have worked since they rotate on the axis of their corresponding end.
If it was a single piece of fabric that looked the same from both sides, that would work, but as I demonstrated with the toilet paper, flipping it around as you suggest would have left the ugly rubber side facing inward. So flipping it horizontally as we did, required re-rolling.
Thank you for the excellent video. This makes up my mind not to get the blind portion from automated blinds and shades, which I believe is just a sister company of rollertrol. But let me ask -- Why didn't you just buy a shade from a known manufacturer like Levolor or Graber and install the DIY kit yourself, especially because they don't even put the kit together for you. Thanks,
Well, you're pushing my memory now. Originally we went to Home Depot and they were about $3k. We were ok with that, but when they came out to measure they said something about the height being too high to come out from the wall to go over our screens. Like it would be too heavy or something. Clearly that's not the case and I think the installer didn't know what he was doing or something. Then we tried Lowes, but the blinds they carry (can't remember the name now) had pretty bad reviews. Then we finally gave up and opted for a place that specializes in them and they wanted somewhere in the $11k range. After that I did some research on "how-to" figuring as usual, I would have to do this myself. To be honest, I thought I was going to wind up doing something custom like using drill motors and a Raspberry Pi or something. Then I stumbled on Rollertrol and it seemed like the price was right and I could get some options (fabric) for a better price and I wound up going this way. I did check into Levelor, but I do not recall why I rejected it. I'm thinking price. The ones at Lowe's with the bad rep were called Bahia or Bali or something like that. I don't recall ever hearing about Graber. So bottom line, I'm not sure if I made the right decision, but we're happy with the end result except for those few nags mentioned in the video. And they are still going strong. Glad I could help.
