An excellent option for attacking an opponent in turtle position. This technique can also be executed on an opponent that is kneeling or reaching for your lead leg. More information can found in the blog post here:

The roll is wrong, it's not a flat roll at all it's a traditional shoulder roll. You're landing on your back when you should be rolling at more of a 45° angle or his left shoulder, onto your left shoulder. Rolling the way you are firstly is very dangerous for your neck, and secondly leaves far too much space between your body and his, that's why you find it difficult to roll him over you. Whereas a normal 45° shoulder roll keeps your mass much tighter to his body and therefore the momentum of your weight helps more easily bring him over you. At 1:58 you perform it closer to 45° and bam, he flops easily right over you. It's to do with the speed at which you did it, sure, but it's also a better angle of roll. Not sure why you're teaching it as a straight roll flat onto both shoulders/back. Oss.

This is a brutal strangle, I have an Old School Sensei that does the technique to everyone in the class, so they can feel how the strangle should be applied. It doesn't take much to see the tunnel dim from this rolling okuri eri jime.

My professor says to swing the free leg around to create more momentum vs a bigger guy.

@@Twoyutes74 yes that's how we're taught also....think of how well it works when you kick sit up, the momentum is everything. i'm 165 and was easily able to pull this off on someone a bit taller than me weighing almost 250. his body moved slow as we rolled but he couldn't prevent it once my grips were in and my roll began.

Great idea to drill the movement of your body alone first.

I came up with this without knowing the roll is a thing, i do it with my shin across the back.
