The Rolling Stones catalog of great songs is is vast, sometimes you forget a song that you like only because it was released about the same time that other bigger hits were released. For me, such was the case of "Hand of Fate." I liked it when it came out on the "Black & Blue" album. Fast forward 30+ years. My wife & I were at a bar at sunset overlooking the bay at Charlotte Amalie, USVI, and the DJ put on "Hand of Fate." We both looked at each other and commented the song was so good it felt like we were really hearing it for the first time. It was a feeling we share to this day every time we hear it. What a powerful song!🤘

I'm 31 don't know if that makes me the "new generation" but was lucky to see the Stones and we were pretty close to the youngest people there. @@therespectedlex9794 They play the same film footage of The Stones traipsing around NYC on a clip for Rocks Off which was the first track on Exile and awesome. Mick Taylor was lead then so it made sense. He had left before Black and Blue and Ron Wood came in. Not even close to Mick Taylor who was their best guitarist easily. As many have said this lead is by Wayn Perkins who had tried out to replace Taylor. Ronnie is ok but he could never play a solo this good nor could he ever match Taylor's work.

Black and Blue was the 1st Stones album i was introduced to,i was 12yrs old. My sisters older boyfriend(16yrs old) and i were playing horseshoes in his backyard when he popped 2 speakers into the back bedroom window and played this album.Hot Stuff was the 1st tune i heard off this album and i was hooked.I couldnt believe what i was hearing.It was like magic.Then Hand of Fate and i was blown away even more.Then Cherry Oh Baby.Topped the 1st side off with Memory Motel. What a band i remember thinking.Then he played side B Hey Negrita,Melody,Fool To cry,and the amped up Crazy Mama.Ill never forget that day for the rest of my life.It turned me onto the Stones which i ended up buying every album they ever put out plus countless bootlegs(not counting cds and cassettes) over the years.That fella Jim McQuade, passed away recently. Its funny how 1 album can change a persons life.Thanks Jim!

Not that I need it but I’m reminded yet again why I luv the Stones. I feel like the music speaks directly to me, about me, for me. There’s a little something for each occasion and for each moment in life. No other band can do that on the scale they do. Their huge the world over but they come up with songs that make you feel that it’s specially detailed for you. This is definitely one of them...🎶💋🇨🇦

Wayne's an AL boy, he and Emmylou Harris were born a few miles apart. The Stones wanted to keep the band all Brit, but of the guitarists "auditioning" on Black and Blue, Wayne laid down the best track. Those bends are not for mere mortals.
@rutledri
@rutledri 8 лет назад
+outlawyer45 The real reason Wayne was axed was not he was not a Brit but his writing ability. Keith and Wayne were writing together and it would have changed the power structure of the band. Mick would and could not have that so Wayne got axed in favor of Ronnie.

Wayne Perkins plays lead guitar on this song . Perkins , Harvey Mandel & Ron Wood play lead on or more of the 8 songs from this album . as you know wood got the job . Great in his own right keyboardist Billy Preston does yeoman's work on this album: piano (track or song numbers 1, 2, 5, 6, 8), organ (5, 6), synthesizer (4), percussion (6), backing vocals (1, 4, 5, 6)

Slung-back Mick and Keef, -'75, toured the look and feel.

I saw that tour. Wasn't it, "Tour the America's"? And had an eagle that looked like a plane, on the posters & t-shirts.

it really does rock, one of my favorite stones songs. the first lead guitar solo bit is beautiful, and was played by a guy who was never an official, signed/contract stone's member.... as far as i can remember it didn't get any mainstream rock radio stations airplay(in the us of a anyway), maybe due to lyrics subject matter, i dunno . first time i heard part of hand of fate , was around late 1970s/early 1980s while watching a tv documentary of a prison . One of the prisoners had " hand of fate "playing on his record player or cassette player(can't remember which) in the background while they were interviewing him.

I never understood why my favorite stones tunes were around the early 70s. Let it bleed to let's say exile. Than I realized that must be Taylor on guitar.
