That was a great gig, Wednesday 19 July 1995 Brixton Academy, we had to get up at daybreak and listen to Virgin Radio to find out where to go to get tickets, it was well worth it.
@@maccafan10 after the gig left out of the Brixton Academy and left again in the alleyway I don't think it was the stage exit, dark and desolate, more like the back exit where they escape to avoid attention, we were regrouping to see what to do next when David Gilmour emerged. I tried to say wow, hi, great gig at Earl's Court last year (the "Pulse" gig), but I lost it and couldn't speak. He fixed me with a stern stare like "right, what do you want to say, spit it out", I froze and couldn't speak and just stepped out of his way..
@@monsieurhercule I once froze too when I met Andy Fraser from Free, lol. On the way to the Stones gig on the Tube, peeps were recognising my 10 year old son from the BBC news report outside Virgin Records. Then after the gig we bumped into Marianne Faithfull eating chips out of a paper wrap. She shared them with my lad and even gave him a birthday kiss (peck) on his cheek, lol. BTW, did you realise that upstairs at the gig were Simon Le Bon, George Harrison and Jack Nicholson? I ended up having a pee next to radio DJ Chris Evans in the downstairs bog and we had a laugh when I said, "Pleased to meet you Chris, but you you won't mind if I don't shake your hand", lol. Coiincidentally, when my son grew up he played in a band that twice supported REEF who were on stage before the Stones that night .
@@maccafan10 Yeah it was 3000 tickets and 500 vip guests upstairs. I missed the support band out in the queue, literally just walked in a minute or so before the Stones came out on stage. I had the impression that the support band was the black crowes, were there two? I heard about Jack Nicholson but not George Harrison, I must have read a different review. Makes you realise how much more information there is on the Internet these days.
It is a thorough pleasure talking to you about this momentous night as someone who was also there. Best Stones gig ever for us. We were right behind the sound desk (my job back home here) and the brilliant security parted the waves so that my 10 year old son could see the band (kudos to them). I think Black Crows did Wembley on the Sunday before (we were there too as in Sheffield the weekend before that when Stone Temple Pilots supported. ). It was deffo REEF on the night as I remember talking to them at my son's 2 gigs with them. The singer was so nervous that he sang backwards to the band as all the fans at Brixton just wanted the Stones on asap.BTW, the official DVD of the night shows stars in the balcony.
