Without Brian, the Rolling Stones would never have existed. Mick and Keith would have been unknowns. Instead, Mike , Keith, and Andrew treated Brian like the trash they themselves were.
Jagger was sensational and still is, with his song delivery, expressions energy and iconic voice, but the whole group was great, and they blended together so well!
1965...I fell in love with the Stones. 46 years later I still do. Their songs have been with me in some of the best times in my life...and in some of the worst. I feel like they are my extended family! God bless them all. I was devastated when I heard Charlie had passed. They were and are the #1 rock and roll band of this era...and always will be. I was born in 1961 and grew up with them and the Beatles. No matter what one thinks of the Stones whether with Brian or Mick Taylor or Woody, it’s absolutely incredible that Mick and Keith (after starting in 1963) are after 59 years still playing together and have never stopped. Wow.
@@Cissy2cute yeah I know he was the heart beat of the band. Steve is good but they’ll never sound the same. They probably recognize that. Charlie always seemed like the nicest guy. Miss seeing him there. It doesn’t feel right.

The Stones fantastic cover of Down The Road Apiece is one of my all time favourite tracks… the authentic ‘Chicago blues’ sound the band achieve on it is truly astonishing!
Jones was in fact the LEAST talented on the group He couldn't sing, Like Mick Keith and Bill could. He couldn't dance like Mick could. He couldn't write anything like Keith and Mick could. He was a barely adequate mediocre rhythm guitar player.

Love these old footage pieces…..they do Little Red Rooster so immaculately! The bluesy era is so good and the covers are some of their best!! Mick and that mouth harp……just spectacular!

Love Bill Wyman’s tight, in-the-pocket bass playing. Brian Jones was, at this point in time, the REAL focal point of The Stones. He was absolutely gorgeous to look at!
He was very charismatic and good friends with people like Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon, but, sadly, he was a major asshole. Abusive and sadistic. The rest of the band once asked one of their bodyguards to rough Brian up a bit and rough him up a bit, after a particular violent incident with a woman. The guy did indeed kick Jones’ ass, bruised a few ribs and I forget what else.
@Robert S There was also a very pleasant, melodious quality the Stones had during that time in some of their music. It seemed to disappear after Brian was gone.
@@willomina1990 Yes, that's for sure. His perfect hair was on display right at the time that long hair on boys was brand new, and a major issue between boys and their parents. Some parents were cool about it, but alot were not. Just looking at Brian Jones' perfect hair, so many guys wished they could have it. I read awhile back somewhere that Brian KNEW that he was quite envied for his beautiful hair, and acknowledged it.
Disparaging remarks have been made about Brian and Bill Wyman but those cats made this band great- I still love and prefer their early, raw, unique sound-

I have heard this song covered by so many people but for me, The Stones (with Brian), did the best version, hands down (and I usually hate cover versions!)
In the London Sessions Album, there is another version with clapton on the guitar (a Strat I would say) and Howlin' Wolf on vocals, and It is not bad either...

Brian's "skills" were extremely limited. He could play a decent rhythm guitar and he could play the same simple lines over and over without faltering and that was about all he could do. Jones brought almost nothing to the table. He was a hanger on.
@Monsieur Tarzan In the very beginning when they were covering other people's blues songs only, maybe. But after Little Red Rooster and Oldham got the Glimmer twins writing hit songs, Jones became a placeholder.
The Rolling Stones early songs were the best to hear / see live. This was however not a live performance as there are no microphones. Still interesting to see how their audience is so energized.
You got me thinking. With Brian they brought in a couple musicians on stage, like the R & R Circus. After Brian they invited other singers and musicians. It may not mean anything, but I still love the simpler, earlier days the best. Guess the Times they were a'changin'.
Growing up with the Rolling Stones, the songs they played seemed so natural to hear -- but looking at this early 1965 TV show vid what really sticks out is that instead of playing cheery, mop-top love songs the band were doing old blues stuff, including a slide guitar song (Little Red Rooster) -- very out of place for the era, in a way -- but it also shows how much the band were really into that style of music.
well main reason for that is at that time, Stones could not write a great song to save their life...so much easier to play practically unknown covers...& in the bove clip they are playing to a pre-recorded track so just lipsyching...remember their 2nd single was a Beatles song...they were a good cover band for a few years...
@@danstarr374 Play with Fire, the Last Time were written by whom? also, I wanna hold your hand was popular, but really a lousy song. The beatles took a while too, by 1970, the Stones took a back seat to NO band in song writing....
Mick is really SO cool, especially as he knows to downplay everything and let the audience get really lathered. The camerawork during "Little Red Rooster," especially after the 4:00 mark, is quite daring for the time... a long and extreme close-up on Mick's mouth. The dancers are as usual out of place, but this only serves to make the Stones look even cooler!

Brian was clearly the catalyst. Not that Mick and Keith weren't. Just wouldn't have happened the same for them. I'm still amazed at Brian"s musical touch and his usurping stage presence after watching this video. It's 60 years later and still great! As long as their fixing chicken cooked in bacon grease, I'm going down the road, down the road a piece.
@@Bluepillphil-d1w yeah, some people insist that it's Keith playing the catchy riff on The Last Time. It's obviously Brian playing it. Keith plays the rhythm part throughout except for the solo.
I don't remember to watch a unique live show with Mick Taylor, after the Brians's death... So sorry till today and Charlie was now playng your drums on a heaven place... R.I.P both !

You didn't quite get it right Dan . They recorded the first 45 they wrote themselves in this early time period - " Tell Me " , a beautiful song with many different chords changes . They had the talent to compose, but they loved American rhythm and blues so much , it was their primary interest . That's putting it lightly. They were rhythm and blues fanatics .
