If you get a chance to check out the actual music video for this song, it is really a good complement to the song. It shows Mick walking along the street and meeting up with the other band members -- the friends he's waiting on.

When Foreigner had Junior Walker lay the sax down in "Urgent", I had a grin ear to ear. But when the Stones got Sonny in, I was spellbound. The "Saxophone Colossus" himself. You can draw a line that connects all the jazz greats, from Hawkins to Shorter, and squatting between them is this man; an absolute treasure. The Rolling Stones were as experimental as they were fearless, and they knew American music in a way that very few demonstrated, Brilliant.

Part of the genius of The Stones was the way they arranged backgrounds... each song was diff'rent... with each song I said, "How'd they thunk o' that?"

I love the implications of this song. About being done with the cheap, meaningless relationships and yearning for something with a lot more substance in-as-where you can actually relate to your partner without all the drama that usually entails between couples. The friend he is waiting for is NOT, contrary to what most believe, a friend he already has, but a new one of the female persuasion.

There are two ways to interpret this song. One is he's just had his heart broken and he needs the comfort of his male buds. The second is that he has a relationship with a woman who is truly his best friend. I always took it as the first one, but both takes are legitimate.

I used to say, "Their last GREAT single," but then I learned that the music was written a decade earlier for the "Goat's Head Soup" record; it just never had lyrics. Jagger finally got around to writing some, and it was a sensible song about simple friendship - the kind of song they NEVER write. Now I say, "It's the last GREAT single that they RELEASED."

With immortal tracks such as but not limited to : Satisfaction Paint in Black Under My Thumb Ruby Tuesday Jumping Jack Flash Sympathy For the Devil Gimme Shelter Honky Tonk Woman Angie Miss You Plus many, many others can’t understand your ‘reasons’ for not being a fan of their music Each to their own I guess, personally I feel they have an incredible catalogue of tracks and are at the pinnacle of popular music. To answer your question the track was leftover from the sessions for the album Goats Head Soup released in 1973. The Stones liked the groove of it but Jagger has said in the linear notes for the compilation album ‘Jump Back’ that he didn’t have any lyrics for it Later with the lyrics by Jagger complete and adding the Saxophone of Sonny Rollins it was included on 1981 Tattoo You album
@email5023
@email5023 2 года назад
This song goes all the way back to 1972 and Mick Taylor wrote the guitar for it. The Stones resurrected this tune for their 1981 Tattoo You album but initially didn't give credit to Taylor. Taylor heard the song and called 'em out publicly on it. At some point later, they cut him in for the royalties.
