Well the seer wasn't kidding that Rollo would dance naked if he knew what history has in store for his Dynasty and the People he would lead the Normans. From the Conquest of England (William the Conqueror), the huge influence in Frankia and later France, the Conquest of Sicily, the Wars against the Byzantines, the Crusades and the States they formed (Tancred The Prince of Antioch) and even the throne of the Holy Roman Empire (Frederick II), if Rollo in his lifetime knew all of this he would probably go mad with joy.
I knew I'd love these two from the expression on his face when he first sees her: resplendent in her finery, proud royal blood, calling him every dirty name in the book and his face just says it all. He's totally smitten and it's HILARIOUS.
It was the same with me: i was already intrigued by them when they looked at each other during the siege of Paris, but when i saw that scene, along with the epic facepalm of the emperor, i told myself: "Yep. I love and stan these three".
I loved the person he became. He was so hunted and conflicted by himself. He became the person he truly is when he married her. A true gentleman and a knight to her in shining armor.
@@ainhoaalonso642Yep, I fear you are right. Rollo shouldn't even have been there in the first place for many reasons. S4B Rollo was such a disappointment for me
Yes but before that she smiled, implying that she liked his makeover and appreciated his willingness to change:) then she laughed because, let's admit it, he was a little ridiculous in that attire and because she still saw him as an invader and didn't trust him yet. Dear lord, these two are my death xD!
@@CavemanJesus4Life Defeating Ragnar. Lets be real Ragnar was in reality supirior, Rollo only had a chance when Ragnar had become a old very badly hurt man ( Paris and drugs). Ragnar was more skilled and smarter, Rollo was whiny betraying bitch... The sea battle was pure bs, they legit had lost like 3 ships and had a ton in the back yet decided they had to retreat... Its like having a 1000 men and losing a dozen then running off in fear
He only fought Ragnar after he was in a really unhealthy state and he got wounded by a grappling hook in that fight rollo would have never defeated him Ragnar is a Hero loyal to the end and rollo is still a treacherous piece of shit
@@axeviking4602 That's bullshit.... This Whole show is with REAL Vikings who really existed, but they put them all togheter into one show untrue relating them with each others and inventing a lot of other shit that they never ever did or never happened at all, this show is a good FICTIONAL show, certainly not HISTORICAL. Hrólfr the Walker a Danish Viking who beat the Frankish army and and made them surrendering by sacking and pillaging all the cities and town along the Seine river on his way to Paris, he stayed in one of the cities he had taken that he had fortified near Paris controlling the whole Seine river and its tributaries, keeping Paris under siege, attacking Paris repeatedly, from every spring to autumn until the frankish king surrendered and gave him A LOT of gold and a castle in Normandy, and most importantly the territory of Normandy, he also gave Rollon his own daughter, the Frankish princess Gisla of France to marry him, making him the first Duke of Normandy... Also know as ROLLON THE WALKER (they called him the walker because he was so tall and heavy that he couldn't ride a horse he had to walk, he also had a GIGANTIC Danish war axe made just for him and his size. Rollon the First Duke of Normandy and founder of the house Normandy, the Duchy of Normandy was probably the strongest and most feared lineage of the middle age with descendants such as William Longsword, Robert the magnificent , Robert the good Richard the Fearless, William the Conqueror and etc... Norman men being considered the best warriors/soldiers in the middle age during centuries. Rollon the Walker WAS NOT Ragnar Lothbrok brother, they was not related in any ways and he never betrayed anyones. So stop spewing your bullshit and smearing defaming and slandering the name of a real hero, a REAL hero, who existed in REAL life. Who is responsible for one of the most powerful French and British (among others) lineages in history.... After Rollo's death, his male-line descendants continued to rule Normandy until 1204, Rollo's dynasty was able to survive through a combination of ruthless military actions and infighting among the Frankish aristocracy, which left them severely weakened and unable to combat the Rouen Vikings' growing determination to stay put. So don't ever say that this man was a traitor a coward or whatever, he is probably one of the most powerful and influential man of his time !!!
Axe Viking you’re just salty that the Vikings got the shit kicked out of them 😂 if Rollo has stuck with Ragnar the whole time then he would’ve never been as big as he became.
Their love is the most realiatic. They both hated eacother in the beginning, then both got to know eacother and their love blossomed. The Bear and Princess is the best love story ever told and its historically correct.
I hate to break your joy that its not historically correct but sadly and tragicaly, it is. Rollo married Gisla and became the first duke of Normandy and defender of Paris. If you don't believe me and thinks it's fake news, I can't help you... (and yes, if you're wondering I was speaking in pure sarcasm.)
Contrary to her weak father Gisla was a true descendant of Charlemagne. And she found out that Rollo actually was a very smart, ambitious and couragaous man, so that they had a lot in common. Together they were a formidable force.
As in the majority of "historical" series (with very large quotes), the kings of France are shown as weak unlike the English kings. Obviously this is totally wrong. France would no longer exist if that was the case ...
This is not true ! ---- Rollo ( Hrôlfr ) and the Frankish princess Gisla, if she ever existed, had many difficulties in their life. Further, most historians believes that she was about 6 years old, during that period of time ! They were childless. There is not much concerning Gisla, no records , no documents, which is strange ! If there was a mariage, once older, Gisla might have died in childbirth (? ), since Hrôlfr married twice, after Gisla ! There was an Irish/Scottish woman and later, Poppa of Bayeux. There was a son, William LongSword ( Guillaume LongÉpée, in french ) .
Props to Rollo for staying committed to her and her culture despite how cold she was toward him at first. His patience and determination was very much rewarded in the end 😏
To sad that many modern day girls don't appreciate this kind of behavior anymore, they rather believe in superficial attitude and attracted to simple minded scumbags.
Having a nice dinner in an elegant restaurant, seeing an exhibition or a movie together, giving her handmade gifts, drawings. Compliment her in the proper way, being honest and decent all the time... nope she rather be with a simple minded dimwit, the kind that can't behave and everyone avoids. Who understands this...
i remember when the rollo come to the seer and he was crying because of his fate and than the seer just laugh at him and said ohhh rollo if you knew what the gods have in store for you , you would go down now and dance naked on the beach hahahahaha i told you as i told ragnar A BEAR will marry A PRINCESS and i could tell that you will be present at the ceremony now go and leave me
Rollo and Gisla are my favorite couple on Vikings, in part because some of my ancestors were Norman French, but also because Morgaine Polanski (who is also Roman Polanski's daughter) portrays her character as being intelligent and sophisticated and strong willed, as well as being one of the most attractive women on Vikings. She's also from Montreal, a city famous for its beautiful women.
Funny how people hate on Rollo but love Ragnar? Rollo guided Bjorn as a child, Rollo unconditionally loved Lagertha, Rollo protected Ragnar 95% of the time, Rollo was tortured for Ragnar, Rollo saved Ragnar on multiple occasions, Rollo never cheated on Siggy, Rollo literally turned the tide of every battle, Rollo saved half of Kattegat from Jarl Borg including Ragnar's family, Rollo held himself way more accountable than Ragnar ever did, Ragnar was like a little child who did cheeky things and never owned up to them. Ragnar spoke to Rollo like shit all the time, Ragnar cheated on Lagertha, Ragnar was arrogant, Ragnar spoke down to Bjorn multiple times when he should have advised him, Ragnar got a lot of his men killed due to his ambition, Ragnar lied all the time, Ragnar was all about Ragnar. Rollo was no more of a betrayer than Ragnar was. The writing is that good for this show it proves perspective is everything.
i could never immagine someone as Rollo a hardcore warrior someone who saw 1000 battles can fall in love about Gisla ... the real surprise in the Vikings is this ... well happy rollo found a place where put peace in his heart :) in 1-3 season he look like he never was really happy
in real history, we know about only one battle where Hrôlfr ( Rollo) was probably involved, it is the attack on Chartres, south of Paris... Naturally, once he settled in Rouen and expanded his region towards the West, to Bayeux, many years later, he had to face the Breton warriors ( Brittany ). Even, William the Conqueror had to fight them...there was probably a peace treaty, later, since the Brittany warriors were part of the invasion of England in September, 1066 !!
@@RayB1656 Historically none of Ragnars sons were ever kings. They don’t even know if they were really his sons or if he adopted them. Keep crying for your bitch boy who died in a snake pit a loser.
This is fiction...in real history , Gisla was about 5 or 6 year old, at the particular period of time ... ( if she ever existed !?.) It is said that the ''couple'' was childless !
He never hated her, he was infatuated with her from the moment he laid eyes on her! Every single time he looked at her it was with longing, and he was patient and continued to do whatever he could including learning her language, until he finally won her over. He knew they were soulmates.
and what about ppl who spend time with someone to know them better and after they realize the person with who they are now they dont really like. I think they liked each other from the begining but Gisla didnt want to admit it because he was viking, u dont choose with who u fall in love, u just do. No one can force himself/herself to love anyone.
RobertoRPG yeah during that night siege after Rollo stopped that wheel, I saw that for some reason, she was intrigued by him especially throughout the entire siege.
Well, I am not French and have nothing to do with France at all. There are many Rollo fans who are not from France, and there are many people who prefer Rollo to Ragnar
_Almighty_ oh , so he is the traitor isn't it? Let me remind you what happened in season 3, the last survivor of the vikings' village in Wessex went to his KING to tell him what happened, what did Ragnar do? Did he sail to Wessex to punish that christian pig? Did he kick his ass to revenge those poor people? Did he do what a king, an alpha man of his group , HAD to? the answer is NO! Sorry of after years of suffering the gods finally noticed Rollo and gave him another chance! and remember.. that traitor once helped his brother when he wanted to sail west, he was tortured to save his brother ass, I know that the Rollo when met was a immature asshole, but from season one to season 3 he matured enough as a man thanks to Siggy, not mentioning that he saved Ragnar's family when jarl borg attacked Kattegatt. Rollo did bad things and wrong things, but Ragnar as a King did the worst thing a king can do to his people, for his own sake...
I knew she would eventually fall for him. He is a tough manly man who ended up proving Paris needs him and willing to adapt to their culture and wasn't intimidated by Gisla.
I felt it was wrong for years that such a fierce warrior was named after a Rowntree macintosh chocolate treat... But now I see that inside he is also made of soft caramel... His fortunes just went from good to better...he's on a roll...o.
It really bugs me, because even if things are strained between two people, it was very clear to see he was making an effort, for her. The fact she laughed always upset me for that reason. She's no idiot. Figuring out why he had gone to such (likely uncomfortable) lengths wouldn't take long.
Rolo changed the destiny of Europe, Byzatium Islamic near East, Frace and England that endures even to this day. We was a warrior, and his descendants where warriors.
The producers of this series totally botched this story for me. The Norman Vikings became some of the most fierce Catholic believers and warriors...and Rollo didn't butcher his own people. They all intermarried, or many did, and formed the mighty Norman race which went on to conquer Sicily and other areas. The Norman influence on the Franks and vice versa was mutual. The anti Christian perspective of the producers of this series ruined it. These Catholics were far from perfect, but the axe he had to grind really did a number on this series. I never saw so many 21st century values written into prior history in my life.
Norse (AKA Vikings) where respectful towards their wives for several reasons some mundane (They cared fore/loved their spouses) and not so mundane in no particular order. 1) The wife where the one that controlled the house and economy especially when the husband was away. 2) Being an ass towards your wife was an cultural snafu and could make you an object of redicule something the Norse saw as an high art (making fun off that is) 3) It was and could also be seen as disrespectful/insult towards the wife's family and clan if you mistreated her which could have lethal consequences in Norse society (We/ they made the Sicilians look as rank amateurs when it came to bloodfeuds since they where often to the knife) 4) Norse wives where in their right to defend themselves against abusive husbands which incl cutting of that which is most dear to a man.
Very good! Medieval Christians and Muslims could have learned a lot if they are more open minded. But I guess Darkness had to prevail for some time to enjoy the Light😒😁
Their love story is inspiring with very satisfactory ending. Very good story line. It comes across nature, funny at time, and romantic. Very outstanding acting by both actors. Hope to see them more of them together. Thank you for posting and editing the Braveheart's song on them. It is truly lovely and relaxing.
Excellent scenes from the fictional Vikings TV series... however, in real life Rollo and Gisla were not at all, best friends !!! They were childless...
Ragnar is divided by the bravery of Lagertha and the fertility/nobility of Aslaug, both pagans. Unable to cope with this struggle, he found solace only in raids and Athelstan. But Rollo finds it all in one woman, who happens to be a Christian. Rollo is a very lucky man indeed.
Rollo was not a lucky man, he had to fight to stay in power in Rouen, same with his son William. His marriage to Gisla of Frankia, a possible daughter of Charles the Simple ( if she existed ) was childless and they did not get along well. Hrôlfr ( Rollo, in French ) then married Poppa of Bayeux and later a Scotish of Irish woman. There are no events, none , concerning the life of Gisla of Frankia ! Strange !
@@RayB1656 At least he didn’t die in a snake pit like an absolute loser even with all the fake accomplishments like being king of Norway considering Ragnar was from Denmark and Bluetooth was the first king of all Denmark
@@nathan225====== Family Tree started in France only in 1534 ! No official records exist before that date. Unless, someone is from the Aristocracy , where some records were kept by the monks or the noble family ... To be certain today, that someone is a direct descendant from a famous person , you would need DNA samples... The ''' Resting Place '' of Rollo is in the Cathedral of Rouen , under a slab of marble.. However, during the French Revolution, many ''royal '' tombs were damaged and often the bones scattered/dispersed, since they were looking for gold / jewelry and they had a hatred for the Aristocracy ! )
and soon we will see them in their own castle in normandy and with a little baby. and if it becomes a daughter let's hope she doesn't die as you might have seen daughters in vikings have a reputation of dying young. like björn's daughter, ragnar's daughter, and floki's daughter.
But Rollo's daughter was real, her name was Geirlaug, she cannot be killed very young if they want to stay true to history. Let's hope they want to. Rollo had at least two children, Geirlaug and William Longsword.
Yes :/ I was the most disappointed when little Siggy died, I don't know why they did it. In fact, I had so many good ideas for her future, like: she would be the woman who one day will rule in Kattegat, as Björn's successor; she would be a famous shieldmaiden like her grandmother (following her mother's steps); she would have a great love story with her step-brother Guthrum and they become the greatest Viking power couple. Unfortunately, the writers weren't as creative as me when it came to little Siggy :D :(
Lili1127 also we never even got to see her meeting her grandparents for the first time i can't believe they didn't film that! or ragnar, lagertha and björn's reaction to her death. btw she becoming the successor to kattegat would not be accurate as bjorn became a king of he's own swedish kingdom not he's father's realm. also i find it kind of stupid how they later on tried to make him look older by giving him a fake beard :P that just looked stupid and seemed fake as hell.
Yes :D But I still find it better than what they do with women who actually DON'T AGE :D Ragnar, Rollo and Floki are old men now at the end of s04e10 and in the trailers, while Helga is as young as ever in s04e10 just like Lagertha and Aslaug (and probably Gisla) in the trailers. Actually, if Gisla is still going to look like a young girl in the next episodes (while Rollo is an old man), I will just laugh at them.
I'd say an entire series about them and the Normans... Or even about the Franks, with the rise of Charles... Uh, if i would watch all of these with greatest pleasure!
If you love them, i'd suggest you to prepare yourself for s4b: in regard of them, i think you'll facepalm yourself when you see their scenes, as i did :(
