MotoMan welcomes an old friend on the show, Rolls Royce Design Director, Giles Taylor to present a TECH REVIEW of the Rolls Royce 103EX Concept Car: The Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 Concept Car of BMW Group but as Giles shares., this one is about a couple of key points - yes, proportions as this is a Rolls Royce but how do those proportions evolve over the next 25 years - especially when the propulsion system changes. For the first time, Rolls Royce confirms electric propulsion as production intent. After geeking out about design and propulsion systems, they focus on the business end of the car, a completely re-imagined ultra luxury interior . . .

This is the most exciting concept car I've ever seen. A true glimpse into the future of personal luxury transportation.

There's absolutely a place for this. If anything, this is a return to form for cars. Look at it this way: Horse-drawn carriages were told where to go and passengers just sat in a compartment.. Without a bunch of "extra" things like a dashboard, instrument cluster, steering wheel, and so on. It's funny to think that in a way this brings us back to where we started, but not quite.

Long time viewer/subscriber; first time commenter. Firstly, why is Giles's tailor? Crikey his suit is sublime! Design wise the car reminds me of Padmé Amidala's spaceship (Naboo Royal Starship). Really amazing and truly defines Halo image which RR needs. Also, I'm a HUGE fan of the compressed design, development cycle as the short time frame seemingly brings a spiritual component to the result as the designers are forced to fly by intuition thereby inhibiting the ego's need to get involved. Finally, I'm in RE development for over 30 years and have worked with many dozens of architects on large scale high/medium rise, residential, office, mixed use developments across Asia. In the process, my favorite part of the design exercise is the lunch/dinner meeting where we engage with the architect in concept drawing on napkins. If you'll allow me, how about doing segments with designers where you meet in restaurant and have them start drawing out designs on napkins while explaining how the concepts came to fruition. I think you'll be shocked how interesting these discussions evolve. Then at end of episode designer singes napkins and you mount them in frames and hang them on wall you wall. Seriously....

Car is nice but I'd prefer to have a control over it. My vision of future car is like in film "I,Robot" with Smith and his Audi, or another film "Demolition Man" with Snipes and Stallone.

Great show, thank to our special guest, I love the car and color choices! Personally I like the Size of the car one of the reasons for me loving the brand is that you get a mansion on wheels! thus car works, there's the funtionality of the drunk to the elegance of how your entering and riding in the car. I love the way you ride in the car and would like to ask, will there be a way to either lower the car or have a auto step like in the Lincoln navigator? maybe I should look again at the video and see how low the car is. I love the function of formation, how the front end is moving the site around the car almost boat like! again me personally I think the size makes a great statement. I also love the tech, bringing the spirit of estacy alive is in my opinion the most elegant and brand oringinal touch unmatched by anyone else, I believe michael knights kit would be jealous. I kinda would like to have the voice remain true to the roots but I understand and appreciate the reasons behind the customizable side of it as well. going back into the cabin, the materials used is wonderfully beautiful, it has the level of prestige I would expect from such a company, I probably would ask for leg extentions or a foot rest that rises up and dissapears into the floor. I can see this car being the main vehicle for award shows, business meetings, being escorted around LA and Hollywood and or wine country. I think the only other thing to be seen is how serious about production they are #igottawinthelotto if I was to win the lotto there are a few concept cara I said I would but because I feel that they would be valuable in the future and this is one of them.

To answer the question, YES! I think the idea for an autonomous car works pretty well for a manufacturer like Rolls Royce. BMW should always be a drivers car and the ultimate driving machine if you want to be chauffeured the Rolls will do it for you.
@KB-bh9hp
@KB-bh9hp 6 лет назад
Sthembiso Lebuso As you said, for brands like Rolls, autonomous driving tech and evs are are wet dream. Evs will benefit them with smoother acceleration, noise levels of course, packaging so even more interior space, and no gear changes. Again, as you stated, it's brands like Bmw, and especially brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini thay are going to be at a disadvantage to a degree, do they stick with ICE engines that are so well recieved, or do they move on as tech progresses? I say a little bit of both, I don't see ICE tech going anywhere, at least not in performance/enthusiast application, some car enthusiasts will definitely move to performance evs, but purists will still want the noise and drama ICEs bring to the table. However, I can see EVS becoming the go to for mainstream consumers, that's how I think it will play out.

The design is completely flourless. I can’t believe the beautiful piece you have created. And please dive right into it. Big wheels is the way to go! They make it look totally sexy. Please never get rid of the angel. She is the only one holding me together to so I can own ono, one day. I obviously would change the colours but I bow down to the creators of the most beautiful luxury car I have ever seen ❤️ thank you #rollsroyce #concept #100

Well who knows what 6 meters will be like in the car world in 2040. My Lexus LS 460L is that length but seats 4-5. Having that much space for 2 people is crazy cool. I admit that I was expecting to see that seat extend out into a bed of sorts, much like 1st class in an airplane or at least business class. It wasn't mentioned but maybe it is planned. Very nice presentation, very elegant car. Wish I was rich enough to afford this level of luxury. The LS is enough for me.

I do believe that there will always be room for a very large luxurious car like this one. In America where I'm from there are bigger vehicles that travel around just fine and although the year 2040 is far away it doesn't seem too far off for this car. It is beautiful sexy extremely grand and classy AF. (:

Its a shame this has only 3k views! To answer the question - there should always be 6m of LENGTH in the future of any road. Parking space for such a car will obviously be garage/etc but on the road I never think 6m are a problem (I daily-drive 5.25m long S class in a capital city with 1mln cars). Whether WIDTH is going to be an issue is a whole different story. One think I disliked about the car was the blunt interior - looked like an IKEA home and no detail whatsoever, especially on the floor, on the doors... Way too minimalistic to the point of ugliness. However, exterior is a sculpture that can sit next to Leonardo's work!

For such a long car it has a very selfish cabin. Eliminating the driver from the equation, yet the car can still only comfortably house two grown men, which in my mind is a huge problem. Would expect another wide facing seat opposite to be an option (retractable when not needed) but at the moment space optimisation is my biggest concern.

I,m Russian, I do live in Europe for a while now. I would like to have this car in a year 2026 max ( in ten years from now, Not in 2040 ) in year 2040 I am planing to fly within a city limit and even countries. So motoman was right, this RR needs doors more like Tesla model X for practical purpose. The materials are great by the way. Cheers

As to the question “Is This Viable?,” I fully answer yes, this is an excellent idea, and personally, I would definitely buy it, but I do have one issue, and that’s the interaction with the car. I apologize if I step on any toes, but voice is a terrible way to communicate with the vehicle. Imagine this: You’re playing some music, and you want to turn down the volume. You’re not going to say, “Hey Eleanor, turn the volume down.” I think that voice is a very good thing to have, but I think that there should be a remote control or something of the sort in the as well. It can’t hurt. Also, if RR is going to make such a futuristic car, the front grill needs to be changed. I understand that it’s a staple of RR, but it does NOT fit with this design. No RR has over looked remotely like that, and this is the next 100 years, a new era, so I think that it’s appropriate to redesign the grill in this case, because it truly looks out of place with this car.

Mrwallhouse . How wrong you are. I've been self employed for nearly 30 years and I hate to see the workers used. Just like Philip Green has. I've worked for many people that live sumptuous lives and yet their workers have to have benefits to survive. I've got no problem with someone having a Rolls...if they treat the people that earned it for them properly.
