A legendary Aussie, an amazing world legacy they don't make them like Rolly Tasker anymore. I'm so glad this true gentleman finally agreed to a TV story. With the help of his lovely wife Kerry, Rolly welcomed our camera into the Tasker home and factory on Phuket. It really was a day at Santa's workshop. We are poorer for losing, but richer for his time here, showing "anything is possible, if you believe". Sail on in peace, Rolly Tasker! Kerrie Hall, Reporter Bryan Hall, Producer
The loft looks just like the one on Stirling Highway in Claremont all those years ago. ( 60's & 70's). Just so much larger, but so neat as pin. Enjoyed my time working for Rolly in the spar shop in the mid 70's. He was a fantastic boss. A big loss to the world.
I raced with Rolly 44 years ago. Confident, calm and incredibly competent, to the day he died, Rolly lost neither a yacht nor spar. Irrespective of an Olympic silver medal, that was Rolly's greatest personal achievement.
What a gent. I met Rolly in San Diego during the 1992 America's Cup races and found him to be such a friendly, generous character. He gave me a poster that he had designed of the America's Cup Races !987 with maps of the Fremantle courses, history of the Cup races and illustrations of all the old boats. He even signed it for me. I had it framed and it hangs on my wall to this day.
I remember admiring them when i was at the cottage m8, nice to know the background story, i have always found the more famous the person you are lucky to meet the more humble they are, and Mr. Rolly Tasker strikes me as a real gent.
