@@canaldamia8393tbf the Romans did held out for long because of Testudo. The problem is logistics. Romans were cut off while the Parthians keeps getting new supplies of arrows and well even more supplies. I think the battle wasn't really decided by horse archers but by the Crassus's mistake.
@@cyfertea8707I don't know why Roman fanboys say that whenever Rome loses, it was because of the Roman commander's mistake and they always ignore the power of Roman enemies like Parthians and Sassanians???? The Parthians and Persians were famous for their strong cataphracts and suitable war tactics that could win with a third of the Roman army, and this was a sign of the military strength of the Persians, not the Romans' mistake.
@@faraz8135 yeah you are also fanboying btw which is ironic. What he said actually made sense considering rome wiped the floor with the Partians in the later conflicts. I am sorry but your ancestors got fucked.
An interesting fact most people dont know is that the majority of roman aoldiers did not actually have metal shields, but rather closely fitted planks that were glued together, waxed, and then knitted heraldy placed overtop. The reason for this is because that metal shields would be quite heavy and Romans couldnt carry it everywhere for hundreds of miles. Spartans had metal shields because they did not go anywhere.
@Nooob3775 Yes if they could afford it, generally it was leather but bronze or steel if they could afford it, bronze being more expensive than steel and up until the late imperial ages, bronze was of better quality than steel. :D.
It’s amazing how well they are holding up even though they are the best Roman unit and I don’t know the archer unit especially since they are getting shot at from the sides and from
This actually reminds me of like medival)17/18 game were your in formation with the randoms and the boys until the guy that always f up ruins the entire formation like you have the advantage in numbers power but you get all taken out by a single mistake that that guy did
At the battle of Carrahae it is estimated over 6,000,000 Arrows where used to kill 20,000 and wound 10,000. The 4,000 Cavalry where killed off but presumably archers too. Except I’ve narrowed it down to 1,256,000 Arrows roughly. While many estimates still say 2-3 million arrows. If that doesn’t show the resilience of Roman Legions.. then idk. But if Parthian arrows and bows where so good, why didn’t 100,000 Take them down? They had between 1,000-5,000 Camels carrying some 350lbs of arrows each.. with each sheath containing 27 arrows? I don’t remember the math. But I do remember sources saying Parthians used bows between 66-120lbs of draw weight…. Meaning only the most powerful archers did damage, alongside Luck, and Density. With the addition of Hitting the shields at the right angle for max penetration. Keep in mind every but one Historian from that time period wasn’t even born yet…. So their accounts of shields pinning to soldiers arms isn’t exactly truthful but not untrue. If arrows pierced the eyes of soldiers with accuracy then why did the battle last 13 Hours? If men’s arms where stuck to their shields above the shield Boss made of metal then why did it last until the next day? I’d argue if Crassus Change the tactics, listened to his son or taken the Armenian Allie’s Parthia wouldn’t exist. Millions would die, be enslaved, and possible conflicts or good trade with China would happen…
Og rome totla war had a better testudo because the new one gives plus35 missile block chance but the og one relied on actual physical shields blocking shots
Actually if we’re talking historically accurate I’m pretty damn sure that even tho the Phalanx formation was a really good form used by the different Greek city states (not just the Spartans) was not as effective to block arrows as the Testudo! Btw I’m on the Greek side but when it comes to what’s actually better against arrow defense strategically the testudo wins by a long shot! It means tortoise btw cause it’s literally basically a shell meant to stop arrows & other attacks!
Not really. The Spartan phalanx can protect you from arrows coming from one direction. If you have them coming from eye level and above your head at the same time, good luck.
Shield were made to cover a man from arrows, not just "to reduce damage" I really hate healthpoints in games. Mostly, you are a fighter or you are lying with an injury, not like "having 1-100 hp left"
Oh STFU. Get over it. Do you know how many cultures and factions there are in the game? Does the dev have to make each culture speak their native tongue which most of them no one know what it sounds like too? Or maybe they just want their player to understand the random chatter.

@@faraz8135 You need to read better, I never said captured I said sacked. You forgot 197 Severus sacked Ctesiphon and enslaved many of its inhabitants.
@@faraz8135 You're just cherry picking battles, in your eyes the Romans only won as many times as they literally sacked the Persian capital. It's a hilariously bad reading of history. The Lazic war was inconclusive not a Persian victory by your standards, the Iberian war was also inconclusive. So many of your proposed outcomes are just blatantly wrong. You're beyond bias with your outcomes, it's hilariously pathetic.
