Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, the full 3D remake of a fan-favorite Romancing SaGa 2, is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4 and Steam on October 24, 2024.
Romancing SaGa 2, the hit RPG that sold more than 1 million copies upon its 1993 release in Japan, was praised by many for its challenge, nonlinear exploration, and deep and unique gameplay mechanics.

They actually kept the succession mechanic and they are actually keeping multiple versions of different characters. If the scenarios are at least as open as the original, everyone will be surprised at how ahead of its time this game was. Even those who played other the Saga games will be shocked at the Cumberland scenario.

You can see Gerald rescue Cat on the rooftops from the Canal Fortress scenario. Some other scenarios too. Looks like its going to be faithful to the original.

Wow, with all the modern remasters, the new game, & now a remake, Square is really revitalizing the Saga series here in the West. To think a few years ago most though it'd never make a comeback. Bandai Namco could learn a lot from them when concerning some of their original IPs.

@@kidrobot. Not the same person, but.... Romancing Saga 1 has yet to be ported or remastered, but it does have a remake called Romancing Saga: Minstrel Song, which was released for the PS2, and itself got a remaster a few years back which is available on PC and consoles. Similar to this remake, Minstrel Song is in full 3D, and has some changes made to the combat system that bring it more in line with the later games, but is otherwise largely faithful to the original. It's extremely good -- a strict improvement in my opinion -- though some find the super deformed characters off-putting.

Oh nice, I just started getting into the SaGa series. 2 is actually the only one I've finished so far, but working my way through Minstrel Song atm. Games are a lot of fun once you figure out the mechanics. World building feels a lot deeper than you'd expect as well.

I think it will mostly depend on those sweet QoL updates. One thing's for sure, the maps will likely be useless for the remake. One of the major mechanic I expect a rework on is how the battles are counted which affected the generational shifts in previous versions. From the formation screen we saw in the trailer, there seems to be new formations in this version and I low-key expect new classes to be added, or at least integrate Ninja and Diviner more organically to the game. But as far as the story and quest progression goes, yeah I expect most will remain untouched, if not slightly expanded. Maybe the bosses will be more balanced based on your current battle record instead of the more static "level" they had, because while the game encouraged you to explore at your leisure, the bosses would quickly tell you to go back to Go and not in a polite way 😂 Let's just hope we get more trailers in the near future to know more!

Ooh, I can not wait. I’ve always loved the saga series but they’re extremely hard. As an JRPG fan, I love overpowering and battles, but for the Saga series, I’ve learned to not engage in battles because monsters will be too difficult to beat. Only saga game I’ve ever beaten was Scarlet Grace, the game was difficult.

The artstyle feels really generic to me and makes me think more of the later Legend of Heroes or Ys games rather than SaGa, but I suppose I'm glad we're getting this remake either way. The unique styles of the previous titles were much more appealing to me though.

Spoiler: + + + Seven heroes did not grow crazy because of their lust for powers (but only one of them). It was because they were banished to another dimension due to people in that era grew fear for their unnatural powers. That was why they vowed vengeance after getting back from another dimension.

@@fullmetalgamer6062 I've beaten Romancing SaGa 2 and yet I'm still playing Romancing SaGa since a friend of mines introduced me into the series. Romancing SaGa is about equipment to certain classes. Theirs no leveling rank, stats can be upgraded like Sword/Great Swords, Magic like Fire. And even the game punish ya for grinding too much. I even beaten the Dread Queen and it took me 200+ tries to beat it (yes I've defeated it with the final emperor, Ninja, Coppelia, Salamander and Imperial Guard (Female) it was tough and I've managed to beat it.

SaGa series has been doing extremely well since its rebirth in the last 8 yrs now. Their gacha is even their most profitable mobile game. So, i disagree with your statement entirely. Squaresoft apart from FF and SaGa had like 3 other semi successful games and Enix was just running on DQ and Ogre series.

This game takes place over the course of multiple generations, and that Inheritence thing you see at 1:07 is when you choose the unit to be the new Emperor. Only 3 Emperors are set in stone, Leon, Gerard (both are in the prologue esssentially), and the Final Emperor/Empress you chose at the beginning of the game (at least in the original). I believe there's around 6-8 generational shifts.

There is absolutely no romance whatsoever in this game despite the title. It isn't a waifu dating simulator.
