The taxi driver scammed you, that ride was not worth 40 euro, as a romanian I love Serbia, there is a romanian expression: Romania has only 2 friends, the Black Sea and Serbia, we are brothers even in scams 😂
😆 look we can't blame him, he cornered the market very successfully, we didn't have any other option! And he turned out to be super nice so we were happy to cough up the money 😄
Man, that "taxi" driver really ripped you off. Many of a legit taxi drivers are just like that, the moment they see you're not a local. They think that you will think 40 euros is "nothing" and "cheap", while they make good money.
That kind of train was produced between 1936-1950, you just ride a piece of museum :). My grandmother lives in Moravița. I think from Timisoara there are buses that ride to Serbia. Good luck.
What a lovely man, he made sure you were safe, I think it was 40 euros well spent. This is an experience you’ll never forget, how different the world is and there are some good people. Stay safe, miss you both, love you, mum.xx 💕❤️💕❤️
Guys, this goes for any country you're visiting: please be wary of overly friendly taxi people approaching you at stations offering rides. It's so easy to get scammed (overcharged) by them if you don't know the normal fare/rate. If you didn't have a chance to check it online, just ask one or two locals at the station what the normal rate is before getting in a cab. And whenever possible, take Uber instead. I know that wasn't an option.
Definitely should have asked another local, you're right. He was very keen to get us away from the locals and into his car as quickly as possible, which should have been a warning sign! I think we MAY have been involved in another scam when trying to leave Serbia, you'd think we would have learnt our lesson!
I think your driver was stupid, don’t Be afraid in Romania or Serbia, both country are safe and people are so nice. I liked a lot your videos from Romania and I subcribed with big pleasure to your chanel. NexT tine you must come to visit north of Romania, Suceava -Bucovina, people are so nice here. Enjoy your long holidays and I hope you will meet only nice people on your way! God Be with you! 🙏🇷🇴😊
okay, replying to my own comment but thinking about bad travel days just made me remember the time Jordan got on a flight to Rome and I didn't! 😅 Other highlights from this travel day back in 2017 were: 1. Jordan almost not being allowed on the flight from Doha to Rome (due to wearing jeans!) 2. Getting to sit in first class (even if it was only for 20 minutes) 3. Me (Emily) having to sit at Dubai Airport for over 6 hours because I missed my connecting flight and knowing Jordan was in Italy eating pizza without me!! 4. Jordan meeting me at Rome Trainstation and taking me for gelato the second I got in ❤
Hadn't even heard of this before! But narrow gauge steam train sounds amazing! We will check it out and do our best to get there when we come back to Romania!
Looks like an interesting trip . Was that Timisoara station at the start of the video ? Do you know the route for that little one carriage train ? Thanks .
Seriously? you are going to complain about a 40€ non-Schengen-cross-border taxi ride? 🤦♂ you got off cheap if you ask me! I pay more than half of that for a taxi ride to the train station within my small city! Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse than the american tourists that come to these parts...
You never need to bribe Serbian border police nowadays. I believe your driver gives them beer because he is doing something he has no license for, driving people over the border for money. It could also be that on an occasion his passenger(s) were caught with marijuana and he needs to keep the police happy in order to avoid a full search.
@@JordanandEmily Uh oh... It's just that I have crossed all the borders around Serbia and there's a huge difference on the attitude of the Hungarian and Bulgarian border police compared to Serbian ones. It's also my impression when I have watched other bloggers, their comments are the same. My comments on the reason why your driver was so nervous still stand.
@@emilpopovic6167 you'll see on Sunday but was basically a mess up with our airbnb host doing our white card 😂 the guy was nice enough - just took some money to sort a problem 🤷♀😅
Having to get into a random taxi with some nice old guy who doesn't speak English and makes jokes about Turks being mistreated by Serbian police is part of the Balkan experience lol
40 EUR is a ripoff though, the pensioners get like 200 EUR a month or something so that guy is living high lol. Then again it is like full service getting you across the border with the beers for the guards included and helping you get the tickets lol. It's just the Balkans experience tbh it's a bit crazy but it works out in the end
@@JordanandEmily In the Balkans you have to improvise lol. It's like the Navy Seals motto 'improvise adapt overcome' lol. The people are pretty nice and good natured so you're not at too much of a risk but you will be flying by the seat of your pants sometimes lol. I've lived in the Balkans as a westerner for 2.5 years it's an interesting place but not for the faint of heart lol
Australian passports crossing these borders is like crossing with cheats in a videogame. Stronger the passport, easier should be to move. As far as i know,at least, entering EU is very easy for these people, should be the case with serbia too
There are no trains between Romania and Serbia because locals use only private cars, I grew up in Romania and never ever used public transport in my life there(except plains). I hardly use trains in France or Germany. It was surprising even to see you took a train from Budapest to Timisoara.
Romania is in to the normal world and Serbia is in to the our planet. Try the movie "Underground" and you will understand the differences. Or you can try "The white cat,the black cat" (Kusturitzsa)...
@@JordanandEmily it is my home town. When I was a kid we used to go across a lot. A different route to keep in mind. 90% of the taxi driver speak English.
For those who's plannign the same route, you can actually walk across the roma-serb border. We were a caravan of Canadian writer, S.Korean school teacher, and a Mexican doctor and the border police was actually very chill. He even called a local brothel boss to pick us up and drive us to the nearest bus station (we tipped him $6 in Romanian currency).
you want practice that? quyen hoa bao dien - flower legendary ( film hoa moc lan tvb hong kong 1993- 1999?) 2 tap final? for assistant hoa moc lan protect peace?
I hate it when tourist get ripped off, please negotiate the price next time, even EUR 20 is too much for this ride. He was looking for a victim and found you guys.
Well 40€ is maybe explained by the different fees he has to pay at the land border checks such as disinfection when entering back to Romania as Serbia is not part of EU and road tax in Serbia. The reason of why the driver is afraid from the police is that he is not real taxi and therefore operates on the black market.
Great video guys ! Love your videos . What a scammer that taxi guys was , but your in the middle of no where . I got scammed like that in Rome once learned my lesson . Take care guys and keep on rolling .
You need to bargain the price. I have also travel this way before, the guy was ask me for 30€ for 1 people, i was start to walk then he follow me and offer for 15€ the ride. When accepted direct 40€ its confirmation for him to take high prices
For other journeys with simular situations it's learn effect. I can understand the guy, there is only the taxi job in the area and it's the chance to make quick more money or have notthing. But each time when he get to much money it's confirmation for him and in the end he refuse then for other customers the cheap ride.
There is a bus service from Belgrade to Timisaora every day, problem is they wait until they have a full bus and they never have a full bus...........but there is a bus service.
@@JordanandEmily Its too dumb to revisit mentally. I just remember where I am when I am in these places and plan for the worst. You would think this could be a good business for someone, but sometimes logic isnt yet ready for places. Must be some kind of a grudge match, no idea but it is indeed stupid.
Balcan mentality is warm hearted full service, even carries your luggage and makes sure you get the right tickets and train ❤❤❤❤ balcanic is one of a kind ❤❤❤
@@JordanandEmily food dirty? water dirty? medicine dirty? vaccine dirty? with history and not address and addres? history from adam with hedrew, kito, muslim?
As a Serbian I really dont understand coruption in Romanian police for border crossing. Serbia is not in EU , but if any cop wants money from you, you can tell that to other personal on border check in that moment and report him.
Your driver was dumb and ignorant or he had something to hide that made him nervous. The Romania-Serbia border crossing is quick and easy. Much less tense than crossing into Hungary, for instance, which is another EU country...
@@marcfaur 7:28 this is not serbian registration plates on car I think it is romanian. I think it wasn't legal taxi I didn't saw any taxi sign on the roof of the car, I think it is "pirate taxi" and that's why driver was nervous on the serbian border, because police can hold him and seize his car in case that he doesn't have taxi licence.
