DVD on sale at www.ProgDocs.com. Like this on FB on. eiBbvc. 10' Trailer of documentary. Inspired by classical progressive rock bands of 40 years ago such as Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and Pink Floyd, young bands of today have transformed progressive music into something new. Ignored by today's music industry but empowered by the tools of the Internet, these young bands are trying to find their audience while crafting a personal sound as an alternative to mainstream music.
DVD on Sale at www.progdocs.com (Home Video Sales) and at www.zeitgeistme... (Institutional Sales)
This feature length documentary film highlights ten contemporary progressive music bands: Cabezas De Cera - Avant/Fusion (Mexico), Cheer-Accident - Avant/ Experimental (USA), Deluge Grander - Symphonic (USA), D.F.A. - Jazz/Fusionl (Italy), Karmakanic - Symphonic (Sweden), La Maschera Di Cera - Symphonic (Italy), Oblivion Sun - Symphonic (USA),Phideaux - Symphonic (USA), Qui - Jazz Canterbury (Japan) and Rob Martino - Chapman Stick Player (USA). These musicians tell their stories, influences, creative process, challenges they face, and how they sell music in the era of Internet downloads. While the music's international, cross-cultural appeal receives due coverage, the Eastern United States and the Baltimore-Philadelphia region, specifically, are acknowledged as the cradle of prog's post-1970s artistic renaissance.

This film is also about the passion and spirit of progressive music genre, its music, its festivals, and the ecosystem that supports it.

??? i must disagree. check out Steve Lehman Octet or Steve Coleman's album Harvesting Semblances And Affinities. That's as modern jazz as modern jazz gets and it sounds nothing like prog. there might be some similarities but i wouldnt say it sounds like prog..

I started out thinking this documentary was going to be brilliant but, unfortunately, the artists kept on saying that music on the radio is either not good, not music or superficial. But that's not true. Music that is commercially successful is not intrinsically bad. What would these artists say if their albums suddenly shot to number one in the charts?

@drummernezzy Yeah, but a lot of people consider jazz rock quite related to prog - it certainly has similar goals and ideals, and a similar penchant for crazy solos!

why is prog always lumped in with crappy 'phish-esque' jam music

Both prog rok and prog metal fall under the bigger umbrella of progressive music. Miles davis is not prog, but he established the jazz-rock underpinnings for progressive jazz-rock.

If you get the Romantic Warriors II - About Rock in Opposition documentary and the Special Features DVD of RW II, you'll be able to see Thinking Plague's performance and get to know a bit about their history.

Nice vid, but shorter than most songs of the genre :)

It is hard to make a living playing music now. Good job putting yourselves here on RU-vid where word can get out that you do indeed, exist. It's fans like me that you need. Good old prog lovers like yourselves. I believe that you can promote yourself and sell your music online. We may not get rich at this, but you guys look better without BLING anyways. :D Huggzz

Both fall under the umbrella of Progressive Music, same as Zeuhl, Canterbury, and several other Jazz-Rock varieties.

Prog-Metal and Prog-Rock aren't as different as red and blue. I personally enjoy both. You're all being like the people who hate Prog music, but even worse since it is a hate inside the very genre you love. Progessive music is progessive regardless of whether it is heavier and agressive or softer and mellow. Let's not forget that some prog-rock and prog-metal bands bridge the gap between the two. I'm not just some progressive music guy either. I love all styles of music.

I love Progressive Music (Frank Zappa is my particular favourite tough I know he was somewhat more than that) and I love progressive Playing, but I could never get into "Freeform Jazz". I'm a Bassist and I'm more into Players like Scott Thunes more so than Jaco Pastorius. I love Technical Bass Playing but I do not enjoy the "upper-register" Jazz Bass Solos that so many of the Jazz Bassists do. I think its a question of personal taste. Would you agree?

@kfsfkakf: All music forms are looked down upon to some extent. Prog is no exception. Ethnic folk music is also made fun of. Irish music and dance is a perfect example. I'm Irish and our music has been made fun of for generations. It's just the way it is. Opera is hated by many people. Classical, early rock and roll, you name it. Way more people hated the Beatles than liked them in 1964. It's human nature to dislike things you don't understand.

Hey, that was the trailer? It did it's job ... gonna check the DVD out. Masterrese - I might not have pro advice, but practical. Someone said, "Don't make room for the gift; let the gift make room for you." If you love what you do, and you know many other people love it too, make a CD, DVD, whatever works, and self publish it: Amazon, iTunes, etc. In today's internet world, it's inexcusable to waste away at a prison (dead-end job) and not live the life. Develop the Talent!

@Ultrasonic240sx I guess kids nowadays think they're the same, so metal is swallowing rock - the other day a kid told me he was studying classical guitar and "metal" guitar - they don't even know about blues and rock and roll and everybody sounds the same (I have to admit I'm prejudiced because I hate metal prog).

@SephynnXx well i can find things like the "popular" prog bands like pink floyd, yes, Dream Theater, but anything more obscure than that is a lucky find for me, king crimson for one (have never been able to find an album anywhere.

@wigginsdesign I think what's sadder than that is people who were around in the seventies, and liked it, but don't realize it's still going strong (if not, better) today!

I really feel for this genre being a huge fan since 1970. Sad that most people never got a clue and missed out on a whole magical world. Prog is for the adventurous mind. Unfortunately its' often rejected by even the jazz musician who are locked into a particular style or manner than Prog

@Mordain607 True, one of the main purposes of this film is to try to create some awareness of the ongoing contemporary progressive music scene among the baby boomers. Good news is that Romantic Warriors will be broadcast on US National (Public) TV in June 2011. We hope this nationwide effort touches some hearts (and brains) and help many people realize that the genre never died and that there out hundreds of young (and not so young) bands out there creating incredible music ! Thanks.

@derekgiannone A lot of bands do it for the pure love of music! One of my favorite bands is Kenso, e.g. the band is headed by a full time dentist. He has a comfortable life as a dentist and does the music on his spare time. All the members have full times jobs. Its the love for the music not for the money. PR is about the only genre/sub genre where most bands don't have delusions of being #1 and making billions. They just wanna make albums. Albums that have the POWER to end wars and hunger :)

What is the point? It was never that good with the exception of Magma who I just recently found out about 7 years ago.I'm almost 50.Heard most of it from that genre.Magma combined, soul, jazz, and classical into a mutation that can't be matched today IMO.The Krautrock band Can also sums it up for me along w. Electric Miles Davis.Bitches Brew etc.I guess when you run out of ideas musically and there is a younger audience that is unaware of free jazz, fusion, prog. rock etc..Why not rehash again.
