Peter F Hamilton wrote a short story about this. 'Watching Trees Grow' - where the Roman Empire began a breeding program to increase human lifespan and never ended. It follows a detective from an 'Old' family spending 200 years investigating a murder of one of their members, while the technology rapidly accelerates as society develops. From electric cars in the 1800's to Starships in the 20th century. Good story.

The fall of Rome in 476 AD marked the beginning of a period known as the Middle Ages, or the Dark Ages, in Western Europe. This period was characterized by a significant reduction in economic activity, urbanization, and cultural and technological production compared to the Roman Empire. It is difficult to precisely quantify how many years Europe "fell behind" due to the fall of Rome, but some historians suggest that the continent experienced stagnation or even regression in several aspects of development for several centuries. It is considered that Europe began to recover and advance again with the Renaissance, around the 14th to 16th centuries, when there was a resurgence in art, science, and exploration. Therefore, it could be said that Europe experienced a relative delay of approximately 800 to 1,000 years in certain aspects of its development due to the fall of Rome and the subsequent period of the Middle Ages. However, it is important to note that this assessment varies depending on the specific context (economic, cultural, technological) and the region of Europe in question.

If Rome never collapsed, and persisted into the 21st century, this is kind of how I would imagine it. Changes here and there to go along with the progress of technology, culture, and societal beliefs... But yeah, for the most part this is how I would imagine their armour looking. Still having some resemblance to their ancestors.
@cognisant307
@cognisant307 Год назад
I think our society might revert back to that once we reach a technological plateau, the current paradigm of rapid advancement has resulted in each decade having its own particular style but as you go further into the past styles persist longer and the longer they persist the more refined they become, hence classical music, classical architecture, etc. Suppose your business is making boats and it's a family business going back across the generations 500 years, in that time each of your forefathers have learned and added to a body of knowledge regarding boat building, including how the boat is designed to be aesthetically appealing. But then someone invents fiberglass and outboard motors, now wooden sailboats aren't in fashion anymore, they're beautiful, elegant, reliable, but the fiberglass motorboat is cheaper and faster, so that legacy is shelved in favor of making modern boats. In 1000 years hence technology hasn't advanced meaningfully for the last 500 years, the making of interstellar ships has become a family business again, a new legacy has been developed, and with that legacy the ships are once again beautiful, elegant and reliable.

Now that streaming is drying up dvd/bluray revenue studios won't take chance unless its a guarantee it'll make $200-$300M worldwide. @@SirMattomaton Comparing the technology of the time of the Roman Empire with the Mongol Empire is absurd, The Roman Empire has been the most overrated in our time because they highlighted the laws, the "civil" things but it is not that they work very well, The Mongol Empire has been by far the meaning of the good of the war, perhaps they did not have much administration but they already believed in their own religion in Co-Existing, that is, respect above all things for both women and men, for different religions and for cultures different, IT IS SOMETHING SUPER AHEAD OF ITS TIME EVEN IF WE COMPARE IT WITH OUR TIME, in Europe centuries later they burned women and the inquisition did theirs, you will realize that I did not name the Roman Empire much and it is that it is only recognized for being the first great empire in the world but it has not been the best, that is clear, what remains of the Roman Empire or the Byzantine Empire itself? nothing, for superpowers like the USA their "law" systems are very hypocritical if we consider that the USA is a very crazy and restless country, China is the greatest world power and it owes it to Mongolia ironically, in the competition is the improvement and Mongolia it was the greatest competition for the entire world, it raised the standards of war, something that today means death and suffering but at that time the war brought out the best and the worst in nations, the culture of China was based for a long time about war and competition finally today they are the largest world power and at the same time dangerous in the world, Mongolia destroyed the Tangut Kingdom and unified China, Rome is something too much from the past although if it is spectacular it detracts from much merit than at that time Most of the kingdoms had not been formed and were weak, sad or not. In the end, what was left of the Byzantine empire today is known as Turkey, Roman Empire = America, Europe conclusion. Mongol Empire = All Asia

In the grand theater of history, the Roman Empire emerged as a celestial symphony, a cosmic opus of ambition, conquest, and grandeur. Its vast, sprawling dominion stretched across the face of the known world like the shimmering aurora borealis, casting a resplendent glow on the canvas of time. At the heart of this celestial spectacle lay Rome, the Eternal City, a glittering diamond set within the fertile cradle of the Italian Peninsula. Within its hallowed walls, the city teemed with life, energy, and the indomitable spirit of its people, who labored tirelessly to forge an empire that would echo through eternity. Rome's emperors, those visionary titans who bore the mantle of destiny, were like celestial constellations, their radiance guiding the course of human history. Cloaked in the ethereal mantle of divinity, they held the fate of the world within their grasp, their fingers entwined with the gossamer threads of destiny. The legions of Rome, a formidable tempest of iron and determination, swept across the continents like a whirlwind, carving new paths through uncharted territories and nourishing the roots of the empire with the lifeblood of conquest. The golden eagle, emblematic of their unyielding spirit, soared high above the battlefield, its wings outstretched, encompassing the vast expanse of the empire's reach. With each triumphant conquest, the symphony of Rome swelled in glorious crescendo, its harmonious melodies reverberating through the annals of history. The empire's intricate tapestry of art, philosophy, and architecture wove together the disparate threads of humanity, creating a vibrant mosaic that reflected the dazzling brilliance of its achievements. In the annals of human history, the Roman Empire stands as an eternal symbol of mankind's capacity for greatness, a lush, verdant refuge amidst the arid sands of time.

So it would lead to stagnation which is what led to collapse in the first place. Getting broken up into smaller Kingdoms means they have more of a reason to go their own way and come up with new ideas. The more older and archaic it is, the harder it is for them to accept novel ideas. It's why USA was able to advance so quickly. A lot of states fallen to this lie. A lot of knowledge were lost because some peasants decided they are equal to their betters. So, never allow that to happen. People are not equal. No Democracy beyond regional elections.

The game Stellaris has a shipset and character names where you can simulate a Roman interstellar empire. Good 4X strategy game.

The Roman Empire might have fallen, but that dosen´t mean it can´t rise again. There is always hope.

We keep failing because we keep trying to make a new Rome with our current ideas and policies , instead we should just accept the fact that for Rome to return we have to make just the way it was and then and then only, can we apply what we have learned and then Rome, the beautiful dream will rise to new heights. Long live the Dream that is Rome.

Unfortunately Hollywood is too busy making Velma and cutis to care about this masterpiece of art. Besides, if they did, half the cast will be lgbtqajdjd whatever.

Rome never falling is like the rise of Atlantis all over again ❤ also as others have stated, I'd kill for a movie set on this premise!

Computer animated film for the internet, an alternate timeline where Rome never fell. That the film is made by a man over 29 who likes history and the sum of everything led us to our current reality, and understands the importance of good scripts and dialogues for a film.
