The Rome Total War Original Soundtrack was composed by Jeff van Dyck in 2003-2004. It features vocals by Angela van Dyck, and bouzouki and mandolin by Saki Kaskas.
This score is so powerful. I remember playing this game and all its mods for hours when I was in middle school, circa 2004-2006. I even did a “documentary” using in-game footage and this soundtrack for my 8th grade history project. Absolutely blew the teacher’s (and the other kids’) minds. Went way overboard (other kids were building viking ships out of cardboard, etc…haha).
imo Empire and Napoleon's subdued classical style fit their time periods. But everything else including Rome 2 Warhammer really needed Jeff's magical touch.
Agree with Jeweled Skeleton. Empire and Napoleon had brilliant OSTs, very historically accurate. However, Rome 2, Attilla and other later games needed Jeff badly.
takes me back to the good old days of childhood where your biggest worries were full stacks that the senate had in the capital. miss those worriless days!
Couldn’t agree more. I was thinking about why the other night: it’s the dark, relentlessly driving baseline that reminds us that for most of its history, what set Rome apart was how fast it bounced back from catastrophic defeat (see Allia or Cannae), rather than brilliant victories
@@michaelstevens9256 I think it is probably much simpler - the music is brilliant, and the game was also brilliant at the time, so we all just subconsciously started to associate this music with the game (and thus Rome which is the topic of the game) because we remember both very fondly. If somebody who has never heard of the game or the music heard this theme song I doubt they would immediately say "this is so Rome".
With the remaster coming out tomorrow, and you uploading this so recently, my heart is near to bursting with nostalgia and sentiment. Your music is a part of the soundtrack to my childhood, and I will never forget it.
OMG!!! you actually did it, you uploaded the RTW OST!! Do you have any idea how much I've been dreaming for this day?!! Years of listening to poor quality rips from the game are finally over! Thank you so much!! Your music in this game is the greatest soundtrack ever. Thank you, thank you! Keep up your amazing work, you are the best!
Нет. Именно Рим 1 превосходен, а дальше сырость и бездушность... в треках Рима 1 чувствуется вся римская история, их героизм, возвышение и упадок. И море крови
Jeff I don't know whether you will ever see this but I just want to say what a profound impact on me this game and it's soundtrack had. I played many total war games but I always came back to this one. The music from this game really put you in the period of Roman conquest and to this day I can never forget it. I'm a little drunk now but I can sleep soundly knowing I lead the Roman families to glory in this game and reminisce about all the battles among the way. Thank you Jeff from the bottom of my heart ❣️ x
Jeff I know you probably won’t see this but I just wanted to thank you, Angela, Richard, and James for both the Rome I and Medieval II soundtracks. These games and this music was a massive part of it and is such an amazing composition, and I hope CA hires you again in the future.
@@JeffvanDyckMusic hey Jeff, I was looking at all the OSTs on RU-vid, and I was wondering, where is the Barbarian Intro? I haven’t seen it anywhere, it’s as if it just disappeared off of RU-vid.
@@JeffvanDyckMusic Your craft has been one of the most iconic, impactful and beneficial ever, you're some of the best composers. The whole track of Rome Total War will remain forever.
@@JeffvanDyckMusic add to that a big thank you for the spartan total warrior soundtrack, loved that game so much as a child, i truly miss your talent in the newer total war games
When Jeff van Dyck was composing, he had a Roman centurion looming over his shoulder, shouting "And remember this above all. Our Roman gods are watching! Make sure they are not ashamed!!!"
Roma invicta!
ahhh the old memories of playing Total war Rome....thanks so much for uploading this, it just threw me into childhood days of listening to this in the menu.
It's a beautiful day! After all these long years, i am glad to see these marvelous soundtracks are being uploaded once again. You are a musical genius Jeff van Dyck, and the voice of Angela van Dyck is legendary.
Grandissima composizione, per me una delle più belle di sempre. Racchiude in essa tutte le caratteristiche dell' Impero Romano: fierezza, maestosità, tristezza.
With this song, my whole journey into history began. I must confess i saw couple documentaries before about the Punic wars on TV, and then i got into this game. I am berber, descendant of romans and barbary numidians.
Thank you for making such great, memorable music for the Rome Total War experience! The OST to this day always puts a smile on my face when I hear even a small piece of the work.
Total War!
Roma invicta! This game had so much impact in my childhood, just like Medieval 2. I can't express how to thank you and the rest of the team for the amazing job
I heard this theme so many times it burned into my memory as i tried troubleshooting my 300 mods to work together. Play the campaign for 3 days and be amazed. Then stop playing it, uninstalling because i needed space for something else. Then reinstalling it everytime i upgraded the computer, and all 300 mods again with another week of troubleshooting. And it was still the best game and most immersive experience ever made.
If you built your temples, marched your forces. Clicked and dragged your legions on the battlefield, and won glory for Rome, you may call for friend. You did well brothers and sisters.
I always loved how the second main menu theme that you usually heard after exiting a game and Forever were essentially the same, but with different takes (and in this case, a lack of vocals that lets the instrumentation really stand out). Hope to see this on Spotify soon... and your Medieval II work - all of it was excellent!
I love nostalgia there's something about playing games especially older games and remember them and the soundtracks and its such a nice feeling The annoying part if I love total war so much but I just can't for the life of me play it I'm sick of it and its a great game one of the best my favorite game but I can't play video games for 1000 hours even if its my favorite
Believe it or not, Jeff van Dyck became my spotify artist of the year because I had this song on repeat. Most played song of the year. Slept to this song thousands of times.
Probably my favorite game soundtrack ever. I'm not the biggest Romanophile out there, but this is powerful enough to bring me to tears every time I listen to it.
To me, the creator managed to create the true Roman feeling in this game and overall. No matter what it is, the themes capture every part, from calm, uncertainty about the battles/future to the consequences of war(losing your husband and family). Without its music, Rome 1 isn't the same, along with its unique voice cast. Whatever people there were in the Roman voice cast, they nailed their roles perfectly! This game truly lives up to its name, by playing as Rome, you feel like Rome. True immersion achieved(don't be semantic about history details, you can play how you like).
This piece of music reminds me of the sunrise as witnessed from the walls of Antioch. It also reminds me of the quality time spent studying philosophy in Alexandria.
I loved this game. I was playing this a lot in my childhood on my laggy laptop haha. But I had amount of fun and time with this. Music is nostalgic, factions are classic. Seriously everything in this game is perfect. I still play this in 2022
This soundtrack has had en effect on me that I cant explain. I remember those middle school days, hearing this song play even when I wasnt online because I would leave it on. Glory days of rtw. Anyone want to create a group for nostalgia players like myself? I play rtw2 time to time but rtw online in 2006-2010 was something else. I watched the netflix special "Barbarians" and when I realized it was about the battle of teutoburg forest I was excited af! "I learned about that battle in Rome total war!!" This game single handedly is my favorite and most memorable. Hopping on team speak from guys and gals from all corners of the world, excited to get some clan games while we were all online for a few hours.
This right here is a master piece, one of the best game of all time, and the best game that came out when I was in my teen!! Salute to all the developing team. I miss games like these..
I just realized that samples of this soundtrack are used in the credits song "Forever", if you listen closely you can kind of follow along with the music the lyrics. In certain parts it fits perfectly, others not so much.
I'll never forget booting up the after school LAN games with my father and brother. - Sure, dad would kick our collective asses, spamming pikes and elephants and whatever tactics our naive little minds would struggle against, but we would have fun doing it. This theme brings it all back. Thank you.
Omg your DAD played this amazing game with you? So lucky! 😮 Mine was a misery guts who'd rarely play any game of any sort, especially not computer games 😞
I remember playing this game on my computer all days in 2010. Now that I am 19 years old, I have heard this masterpiece again. It was as I had returned to the past, then there was nothing to worry about. I want to say thank you so much to the composer and Rome Total War for my childhood, emotions and for taking me back for a while when I was a child.
