Everyone goes on about their love for Pullo and Vorenus, or how well-acted Antony and Octavian were, or how the show should have been longer to give the writers the opportunity to explore the civil wars in more detail and touch on the birth of Christianity. And you know, that's true and all. But I mean, you've gotta have respect for the announcer on the Roman forum! The guy's been through decades of war and unrest in and around the city, and he still delivers the news with such passion. This comment has been sponsored by the Guild of Millers. I think Biden should stay in the race , its a chance to fix the last for years , Biden has the right under the law and also a duty to run for another 4 years , he can still win , I think Biden should stay in the race , he should not chicken out , he can win # Biden 2024 / # Blue wave
@jaca van heesch well it didnt lose, we still use its alphabets laws, traditions, archuteiture, it basically built what is modern day europe, its the best legacy you could have, does anyone remember the dutch empire? no because it was an insignificant empire compared to the romans
@Titus PulloYes He was born as Gaius Octavius ( Thurinus ). After he was adobted by Gaius Julius Caesar, He called himself Gaius Julius Caesar. Later he was given the title "Augustus" by the senate. After 27 v Chr. he was called Augustus Caesar or Caesar Augustus. Augustus means 'the exalted one'. I always call him Augustus Caesar. Yes he was the best. He touched my heart with his wisdom and grace.

That’s the point of the statue, but Augustus was actually even shorter than the actor, and rather weak physically speaking. A more “masculine” actor would have been way off mark.
Dude I keep watching this video I swear the last 100 views are mine, my love of ancient rome knows no limits and this video is so well done, you made everything psynch together perfectly, special mention to the announcer at the end, he made the show 10 times better. If you're like me I recommend the masters of rome series of books by the late Collen Mccullough, she was an excellent writer.
Damn Game of Thrones !!!!.... HBO had to cancel this freaking outstanding series because people were more in interested in dragons, reanimated dead, witches, insest, magic swords...and all that real historical stuff !!
The interesting part of the story was at the end though. The main characters were old and had pretty much been beaten down. Marc Anthony a Great actor was killed. Not sure what else is left unless they skip a timeline.
@@alexandercrush the rule of octavian caesar and the sicilian war, The Bellum Batonianum and so forth plus you have the plot points of Titus and possibly other similar historical characters brought in.

What’s a little sad about Vercingetorix is he once was a compatriot if Caesar and fought for Rome. He was an able commander and chieftain and could have done much remaining in Roman service; instead he rebelled, made himself a “king” and ended up rotting in a cell for years after his defeat to eventually be brought out in chains during Caesar’s Triumph and publicly strangled to death as an offering to the gods. Wasted potential, and worse yet a wasted life..
Life is mostly a tragedy for all of us, we live, fight and struggle only at the end to see everything we once so prized getting trashed! Only in our graves only do we realize that its as King Solomon said, like "chasing the wind" nothing we hold dear in this life really survives us as our time comes to an end. But at least this Gaulic chief stood up for what he saw was right and very nearly destroyed Caesar. Wasted potential? Only at the end but he honorably gave it his all. That I might one day be so reckless as he was in devotion to a cause, but I doubt any of us reading these comments are half the man this guy once was.
I disagree. What Vercingetorix did was smart. Roman legions were scattered all around Gaul in foreign territory, Vercingetorix knew Roman tactics and regulations, Gauls were numerous and upset about the Roman occupation. It was a recipe for success. The only thing going against Vercingetorix was basically Caesar. If his opponent was an ordinary Roman general he would've won easily.
Semper fidelis. Italia y España son nuestra gran familia. Roma invicta est. Viva la cristiandad. Occidente somos nosotros.
@@zainmk775 Roman army at the time of Caesar was totally different than army of East Roman Empire . Because of their military strength, they built an empire that everyone remembers to this day.
@@mareschrobert You know, since 1000 years after the Marian Reforms military technology was barely any better, and the Roman army was probably better organised and more well-rounded than any of the early middle ages, what you've said isn't even that bold of a statement.
@Frederick imagine needing a high ranking traitor, a carefully laid ambush, and dozens of tribes to kill a few legions. And then some guy named Germanicus slaughters all of you lol
@Untold Most were Latins, the most powerful people of antiquity, so much so that their descendants form today Latin Europe and their linguistic and cultural marks are extremely strong, especially in Spain, Portugal and Italy. (France and Romania are also Latin, but these have been influenced more profoundly by Celtic and Slavic languages respectively). 🚩🇪🇸🇵🇹🇮🇹🇫🇷🇷🇴
@@EduardoOliveira-gz3pki wonder really is that why french has so many x Letter in their words and different prononcuation of words because they also carry the celtic culture they also have strong celtic dna aside from latin and germanic
This is so good that should be considered as a documentary. Ten years ago people complained. Now the excerpts from ROME are shown in selected museums in Rome as a background for educational presentataions.
Or it shouldn't be, seeing as half of these characters are fictional, and many are the exact opposite of what they were like during these times. Perfect example: Mark Anthony. Seen as greedy in the show, the man himself was known to be quite generous. So no, it shouldn't be a documentary, when it has a lot of false information.
@@MCshadr217 The show is not historically accurate per se, but it's still incredibly historically authentic. From the military tactics and way of fighting of the Roman maniples, through the vibrant colours of the city of Rome itself, to the general lifestyle people at the time woud follow. As for Marc Antony, I wouldn't say he's greedy in the show. Really the only indication of that would be that he kept Caesar's money from Octavian - which he historically did - and got a bit angry when the young Caesar plunged his family into what could possibly be unpayable debt. As it were in the show, the historical Antony was also a great soldier but poor politician, as well as a complete hedonist.
One of the great series...Cesar played to perfection by Ciarn Hinds, development of Octavian into a ruthless dictator was awe inspiring... only weakness was Antony and cleopatra ... needed someone like Marlon Brando and Vivienne Leigh... power and beauty personified
@@niketesambrosiosdelagrece2266 Yes, because the Greeks were the ONLY civilization that bred intelligent people. Don't be a moron. The Egyptians were ahead of the Greeks anyway, so we can technically say "Oh the Greeks stole from the Egyptians".
@@niketesambrosiosdelagrece2266 the Greeks were insignificant compared to the Romans, you moron. Beside, Rome was bigger, better, more powerful and defeated and conquered Greece easily.
Great series, fine performances. one of my favorites from HBO's 'golden age'. I can only imagine what David Milch, creator of 'Deadwood', would have made of all this. Story goes he was working on a series set in ancient Rome, but along came "Rome". So he turned to 'Deadwood', thank god. But I wonder how far Milch pursued the Rome idea before it was curtailed...
MONUMENTAL ROME, all other empires can just kneel to you and your shocking beauty, might and elegance., city and empire that surpasses everything. No surprise that when Rome collapsed, World immediatelly entered PERIOD OF DARK AGES, we can see here why, it was greatest empire that ever existed
очень хороший киносериал !!! з раза подряд !!! все серии пересмотрел !!! противоречий с историей прихода цезаря к власти ! не заметил !!! игра Антония и Атии - просто великолепна !!!
I know they are from different time periods but who would win in a fight of let’s say 100 Spartans vs 100 romans. Could the Roman break through the phalanx of the Spartans?
The Romans would win because the Roman cohorts are flexible and can bend to flank the enemy, while the Greek phalanx is rigid and cannot bend, if it is flanked it is broken.
i liked how the roman soldiers didnt mock the one guy to be all alone no body said a word, they accepted the challenge and gave the man his heros death respect amongst men without a word being said is wonderful
