ROMFORD MARKET DEC 18th 2010 THE LAST MAJOR SHOPPING DAY BEFORE THE BIG DAY, MARKET WAS CANCELLED ABOUT 1PM THE WORST I CAN REMEMBER JOE PEARCE JJS SANDWICH BAR
Love this I lived in and around romford till I was 24, now on Vancouver island, Canada. Great to see it's still going (though smaller) and people still have there cheeky sense of humour xxxx
I remember this day and i kid you not i left Romford at about 12 o clock to head up To Arsenal(Adopted Romford boy with my North London Roots)no incline of Snow i got out at Arsenal underground Station and it was like siberia couldnt see a thing needlesss to say the game was called off and headed back to romford took me 1 hour to get from the Market to Collier Row on the Bus
i was born in romford in the early 1950 when the market was very busy i moved from romford in the 1960s took the wife back 2012 and i did not know romford any more the market was dead.ian
Used to work on the dustcart down the market in the 90s for the council it was alive with activity but saw the slow decline of the market over the years I was there. Today I wouldn't even call it a market now. It's been run in to the ground 😭
You may not realise it but in 50 years this will be an important historical document. Giving a fascinating insight into life in 2010. You only have to look at films of Romford and Hornchurch in 1950s to see how dramatically and quickly things change.
I grew up in Gidea Park, worked at Fine Fare in the market place when I was still in High School. Left the town in 1967 and never lived there again, only visited. Even the winter of 63/64 I don't recall snow like this. Thank you so much for sharing. It's good to know that the market is still thriving, even if it doesn't much look like it if I visit on a Monday or Tuesday!
