Over in Romford's Queen's Hospital Maternity Unit, Bed 7 is looking after 28-year-old single mum Shirley who is being assessed after her waters broke in the cafe downstairs. She is keen on having a water birth, but as her labour develops it becomes clear this won't be possible.
Over at the Day Surgery Unit in Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital Carl has arrived to have an operation on his nose. He has been having problems with it for the last year and has already had two investigative operations to find out what is going on. The surgery today will involve the bone being broken and moved to the side.
Secret Life of the Hospital Bed is a unique 20-part series where across the 60-minute episodes, fixed-rig cameras tell the story of patients who enter four different hospitals across the UK. The hospitals are The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, The Queen's Hospital in Romford, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and The Great Northern Children’s Hospital in Newcastle. The circumstances, the ailment, the treatment, the length of stay - everything is personal to the individual involved. But the one constant throughout is the bed.

I'm shocked that a pediatric hospital only has 9 beds! Here in the states, I am in the same city as one of the top hospitals in the world. The ER has 75 rooms and additional treatment areas with chairs.

Here in Sweden if you are lucky if you can get a bed at all, for example if you had a baby before you have to go home after 8 hours after delivery ( if it was whit out any problems) and at the emergency department the longest I have been waiting for a doctor was over 15 hours and it cost 400 swedish crowns 😮 !!

You can eat in Canada but many wont bring it to you. Unless you use a midwife. They cant stop you from eating. Especially since they have proven women do better with food in their bodies for the energy. I took all my own food for my deliveries. The no food policy originally began because they didnt want women to have bowel movements in labour. Also why they used to give them enemas too. Now they say its incase you need a c section

Shirley is freaking amazing, 10lb baby and nothing but gas and air. So glad Carl can breath better now, I'm with him, I've had 2 surgeries over last 3 years and those few moments before they put you to sleep, terrifying. I wonder if they take that into account when giving the dosage of anesthetic, like the anxiety and probably high bp from it. So glad Josephine made it to her grandson's wedding, she seems like such a lovely woman. And Daniel, could he be any cuter. ❤💖❤

As someone with a twisted leg, shortened tendons, and recurring aneurysmal cysts, it's nice seeing someone (the man with clubbed feet) being taken seriously. Here in the US, if you come in complaining of a chronic pain or an issue that hasn't been resolved, doctors just tell you you're fine and send you away.
@jackiemarini3203

So true . It's awful over here in the US Dr just don't care .They ask you what your pain is 1 to 10 you tell them they tell you noway .I had pancreatitis it's very painful.Dr said I'm not giving you nothing you won't die from pain .I walked out .And I was so sick .
@marthaj67
@marthaj67 Год назад
What doctors have you had that don't take your pain seriously? IF this is the case, you're seeing the wrong doctors! _Our doctors in the United States are some of the best in the world, who are working with a healthcare system that has been seriously compromised by politicians in Washington, DC!_ I see some of the BEST pain management doctors in the world who manage my chronic pain _very well_ right here in the UNITED STATES. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of "my fellow Americans" complaining (and in many cases flat out lying) about our healthcare system out of some vague belief that they're signalling their virtue! Just shut-up! You're not gaining any points with strangers in other countries by bagging on the people who are HERE in your own country to help you! Get over yourselves!
@BigGrabowski
@BigGrabowski Год назад
@@marthaj67 It's been a lifelong issue with over ten doctors. They refuse to do a hip replacement or a hemi-femoral replacement, because it's "too extreme" for someone my age, effectively dooming me to a life of extreme pain. My condition is extremely rare, as aneurysmal cysts (already a rare condition) usually resolve themselves in childhood, but mine have persisted to this day, 28 years after the first onset. The only treatment is the excision of the cyst fluid, and my condition worsened enough that I broke my femur near the hip at 13. That damaged my tendons and caused my twisted leg. It's never going to resolve, but doctors have refused to pluck out the eye that offends me, so to speak. I live in Ohio, which has one of the worst-rated healthcare systems in the country, especially for people like me who are not wealthy. Ohio's insurance policies are not welcome enough that even Johns Hopkins (Maryland), the ONLY hospital I could find that treats adults with my condition in the US, said they would not take insurance cases specifically from Ohio, due to some form of Ohio law system I can't remember. I am on disability on Medicare, but when I was on Medicaid, I was treated with an air of disrespect by most GPs and dental workers. Not everyone benefits from the US healthcare system.

I had my water broken at 8am after 6 hrs nothing so they put me on this drip which was a medication that sped things up and made contractions intense. I had to have a nurse by my side because of the drug and couldn't have any pain med or epidural. It was agony yet I did my best to stay calm and quiet....they'd said no one has ever been so quiet but I felt had I not it could make things feel worse. When I was finally ready to give birth and push with each contraction no more pain and at 1223 am on the 23rd of Sept I had my daughter. Having her was worth every second every minute and all those hrs of horrific pain. Bless these mom's and their babies❤💕

They may need a fast turnover for the room, or housekeeping is in another room/part of the department. Cleaning supplies (here in the US) are typically available at each bed, often in the form of wipes- my hospital seems to favor Cavicide. Nurses do WAY more than we think they do.
