Did Rommel participate in the assassination attempt on Hitler on July 20, 1944? What evidence was presented against him? Who betrayed him? What were the last days of his life like? When did you start to lose faith in Hitler? What options were you given when you were told he had been found guilty? How did Erwin Rommel die? Next, in this program, we are going to analyze all of these questions and many more.

My understanding is that he was approached about becoming a part of the new government after Hitler was removed. He declined to be involved in any way, but didn't inform Hitler about the plan to remove him.

That's what I was taught as well. It actually sounds very realistic. Rommel was a military man and was going to follow orders and be a good soldier, even though he didn't agree with what (Hitler) leadership was doing. "IF" somehow, leadership was going to be removed, he wouldn't alert them but he would continue to be a good soldier and support the new leadership.

Which means that he became a traitor, Hitler was his boss and he owed Hitler the fact of being famous and achieving his military glory, without Hitler and without the war that Hitler unleashed he would have been a nobody, so, he having knowledge that a plan was being cooked to "remove" (KILL) Hitler, his boss, and he not reporting that made him a traitor to his Hitler, his boss, traitors do not deserve to live.

General Erwin Rommel was a Great Military Strategist. Was he involved in the plot to kill Hitler? I'm sure he was aware of the plot. However, I don't believe he was a part of it, because he didn't want Hitler killed, only replaced. He was a very Brave Man, having made the decision to save his family & commit suicide. Personally, I think that Rommel should have chosen Options 1 or 2 & forced Hitler to try him for his supposed crime. This would have infuriated the German People & possibly caused Hitler to back off or even resign. Goebbels must have been scared to death of a possible Rommel Trial. Club-Footed Little Troll! In closing, Germany lost a Great Man & a Great General!

I think Rommel chose the 3rd option Out of love 4 his family! He knew What The SS was like He knew the fate that awaited them. As 4 going 2 trial He knew How the ppl Followed and Believed Hitler And All that he said He knew #3 was the ONLY Choice

You contradict yourself, you said: "I'm sure he was aware of the plot. However, I don't believe he was a part of it, because he didn't want Hitler killed, only replaced"....To be aware that a plan was being cooked to "remove" (KILL) Hitler, his boss, and he saying nothing, he backing off and standing by the side waiting for that plan to happen made him PART of that plan, that attitude made him a fucking traitor to Hitler who was his boss. Then you keep saying: "because he didn't want Hitler killed, only replaced", are you fucking kidding me?, Erwin Rommel was a general field marshal of the German army appointed by Hitler, Hitler promoted him, he was smart he was not stupid, he was not naive he KNEW that the ONLY WAY to "remove/replace" Hitler was KILLING Hitler, make no mostake on that, he KNEW that the plotters were going to KILL Hitler and he said nothing he did nothing he was a TRAITOR to Hitler the man who gave him the chance to become what he became.

Perhaps. However, like Donald Trump, I believe Hitler would never have accepted any defeat, as he really didn’t in the end. He killed himself to avoid that admission and what would subsequently follow. I said it in 2016 and I’ve said it since then. DT is a dangerous man as people in this country are prone to defend anyone who they believe is being disabused as DT is constantly droning on about his victimhood. The fact is that his supporters are substantially similar to those people in Germany who acquiesced and never acknowledged what Hitler was doing or tried to stop him. Should these supporters succeed in their efforts to return him to the presidency they will bring down on themselves and ALL of us the terrible fate of Hitler’s victims of WWII. WAKE UP AMERICANS.

Rommel was a great commander, father and family man. He really didn't get involved in politics, he treated his men with respect as he did his enemies. I did two research papers on him and even wrote to his son, Manfred, who was the Mayor of Stuttgart at the time. Manfred wrote me a very touching, hand written letter in return. I still have that letter 45 years later. It was also ironic that I was a platoon tank commander and executive officer when I was in the Army. It's interesting how life works.

Afterwards we were invited to a lunch in the famous Faber- Castell " Schloß" in Nurnberg. Because he saw that I spoke fluent German, h was very open and friendly towards my questions about his Father, and how his family was treated after the Assassination attempt on Hitlers life. I read somewhere that in Africa, his second in command chastised him by his inclinations to throw his Infantry into the battlefield where the British artillery concentrated their fire, inflicting heavy casualties. After the failed bomb explosion which Hitler survived, the SS began their attempts to uncover the plot’s participants. At this time, his former second in command “dropped a dime” on him, implicating him.
