I do not own the rights... It's an amazing tune recorded live at Sweet Basil NY 1977. Great performance from brilliant musicians... Ron Carter - piccolo bass Kenny Barron - piano Buster Williams - bass Ben Riley - drums
Ron is such a beast. He has been involved in so many great jazz recordings. Recorded with basically everybody in the history of jazz...his sound is amazing as always!
Most recorded bassist of all time. He was on country records with Jerry Jeff Walker and of course he graced several hip hop records. He is the sound of American bass!
First heard this recording on KJAZ san Francisco in 1977. Rushed over to tower records and bought the album. Nearly played the album every day, then found through KJAZ one morning his quartet had been booked at Keystone Korner, bee lined over to their box office for a pair of tixs. What a superb and exciting performance they gave to all of us that night! This tune still rolls within my mind to this day.
Is it true that the sweet basil was shut down? What a pitty... I've only had the chance to see smalls, 55bar and bonafide… but not sweet basil. What was it like?
This is an old recording and each time I hear it it's like meeting an old friend you haven't seen in years or gong back to the old home town and reliving some fond memories. A brilliant performance by the whole RC Ouartet.
Ron carter is one of the truly great bassist in all of jazz history. In the class of the great Charles mingus, Richard davis, Reggie workman, Cecil mcbee and Scott lafaro. He is a masterful cellist and a jazz master in every sense of the word.
I made one or 2 beats from this song back in like 94-95 when I was first made aware of Ron Carter via his work with A Tribe Called Quest.. I bought this record at Mystery Train records on Newbury Street back then. Now im gonna sample this song again and make more beats with it...
sotethnic this is one of those tunes that makes seeing one more day of hope a day of happiness and a day of loving life I thank God for being able to hear this music live, and growing up around the corner from buster Williams was a treat. Mike Reynolds
Kenny Barron's tune was also given the cover treatment by Byron Morris and Unity with Jay Clayton delivering some stunning vocals...all said and done this is my favourite version
Wow! Amazing ambiance! Proof positive Ron Carter is one of the roots of the modern classical hip hop, R&B, Pop musical artists that enjoy more widespread appeal today 2020 style. However, the musical skill, knowledge, discipline & passion of the artists shine through creating joy, sparking inner peace.
