I think you should keep it. The wolf theme looks great, the sword has history and it's nice to have a few katana that we just admire on the wall. Not everything needs to be a cutter. Thank you for the video, I always enjoy your content!

The tracing of the sword is called an oshigata and the wooden blade in the shira Saya is a tsunagi.

Thats a nice sword there Matt. The fittings are the same as the Hanwei Honshu Wolf Katana if I'm not mistaken. And they look pretty cool. My Citadel is still for sale by the way 😁.

Man I love this katana! Even as cast fittings I think they are just f@#$%&! Gorgeous! The color combination of the tsuka, saya and sageo is perfect imo. Yes the $6000 does seem just a tad steep and the only reason I say this is because of the blade imperfections, transition of the kashirea to ito and the cast furniture. But...with the extras that came with the katana seem to even it out. Do you have any vids cutting with it or performing iai? Also i think it would've looked better without the bo-hi. Lol imo

Facinating. The fittings do look exactly like the Hanwei ones. If you have a space to display all of the accessories I say keep it. I would love to find out if the fittings are original to the sword.

Thanks for sharing a sword that I probably would never be able to own, nice to see what is being made..impressive looking sword even with the imperfections, but even if I did own, how could you use it for traditional cutting, one can't even breathe on it at that price point...alwsys love your take...as opposed to advertising alone on these products...your channel is a wonderful resource to the craft

This is nothing like the Dotanuki that Ogami Itto uses. Handle too long doesn't have the Katatemaki style wrap, the ito is't black the same is black, also his didn't have a bo-hi. Nice sword though

Kinda looks like saki zori. Those are usually straight near the handle and curves towards the tip.

Thanks for your work, Matt. Your style is captivating. I hope you can advise with my first katana, please? :) I started kendo recently (after 30+ years shotokan) and I need a solid / reliable beater. I wanted a Hanwei Raptor Shinogi (because of 5160 TH), but I just discovered there are very few katanas left for sale in the UK - they just passed a stricter law and importing swords is now difficult. This is all I found: 1. A couple of unsold Unokubi Raptors - but my dojo doesn't like the tip 2. A few Nanbokucho Zukuri Raptors - but in this case, I'm worried about the tip durability...looks fragile. Plus I'm 5'11" and Nan is too big. 3. The only other 5160 TH I found are the Four Seasons Katanas from Dragon King. I'm thinking Spring Sakura 27', but honestly, ANYTHING would do at this point. I know you reviewed the Winter Sun. 4. A couple of Ronin Dojo Pro 5. Cheness Kurome and Ayami 9260 differentially tempered (so says the description...I didn't know 9260 can be DH). 6. Cold Steel Warriors Should I buy a 5160 Dragon King? or should I buy a more expensive DH (it may be my last chance to buy a good katana in the UK after all) e.g. : 1. Hanwei Bamboo Mat / Tsunami-Great Wave / Wind and Thunder? 2. Dragon King Hana / War Horse / Fletching 3. Cold Steel Emperor / Dragonfly Many thanks in advance and apologies for taking your time :)

This is an awesome sword, but appreciating this at the sticker price seems difficult. It's like the more one tries to lean towards the beauty and the value, the more the imperfections can shine instead. Or at least that's the impression that I get from the video.

It's suppose to be a Dotanuki style blade. Have you seen the Lone Wolf n Cub one from Dragon king ? It's the closest to what was used in the movies.

Wow, thanks for sharing. Was curious about Ron's work. Some looks pretty okay and some not so okay. It's hard to find much compelling about this sword. The attempt is so much better than the delivery. What a mixed bag. It's great to have a shirasaya, koshirae, and tsunagi (wooden sword) plus the sword drawing (oshigata) and all the other stuff. Forms a complete package. The level of execution of every little bit, however, is so poor that, as you said, that it devalues even the attempt to produce a nice overall package. Considering prices for nihonto/good swords the MRSP of this is extremely optimistic. Conceptually, the price is fine, people should get paid fairly for their work but one could literally get an actual Japanese sword and have it mounted in much the same style for that much money. Of course, this is aimed that lovers of the story who are not knowledgable about these things, but really it is all really a big let down.

He was Japanese. A series from Japan about a warlord who had his whole clan and wife killed and he finds only his son alive a little baby. He had to avenge his family so he tells his son who he did not think his son understood. But he asks his son if he wanted to go with him to avenge his family and clan or play with a ball the kid kept reaching for. Well he threw the ball and asked the kid if he wanted to go on the journey to get revenge for what had happened. If the kid goes for the ball he would off killed the kid and go by himself but the kid came to him like lets go get revenge. Of course the kid was to small to talk. And the series was about there travels to get revenge. Of course the War lord was the lone wolf and the kid the cub.

seems oddly named given the graphic novel/movies, tee vee shows wherein the sword is more or less a starring character and nothing like this sword. thanks for the show tho.

not for me but i respect the people so into the hobby willing to spend that much money on the hobby. I think for 6k the sword should be perfect and really have a wow factor that says i love everything about this sword. I wish the castings for this sword took a page from the Tiger elite style tsuba, shiny gloss fittings are not for me.

It's a great Japanese style sword. Beautiful and nice fitting. But same problem with Hanwei products. The grip is too long.

For $6000 I could get a custom Harold Clark blade made ..For a few more thousand dollars I could get a Nihonto made ..$6000 for a Chinese made blade is ridiculous..

Looks like an amazing blade with some issues you shouldn't be seeing at that price. But I've seen much worse. Some places will sell you a tamahagane blade for $3,500 or so and you get to choose from the same fittings and saya they offer for their $300 swords. Why would i spend that much for a $12 koshirae!? Lol

I don't know why he called that a "Lone Wolf and cub"sword. It's just a Wolf themed sword. A real Lone Wolf and cub sword is called a Dotanuki battle sword and That's not it !

Yeah, that's not like the katana Ogami Itto carried in the Lone Wolf and Cub movies. His dōtanuki (pierces thick torsos) katana had a guard with a wavy edge pattern and a ribbed sheath. Sell that piece of garbage.
