My favorite episode where Opie is the main theme was the Mr. McBeevie episode. When Andy says towards the end that he didn't believe Opie was telling the truth,but that he believed IN HIM. It was an amazing moment. And when Andy goes out into the woods to think and meets Mr. McBeevie I actually cried the first time I saw it.

Lots of good child actors in history, but I think when you look at the fact that he had recently turned 6 years old (barley 6!) when he started with TAGS, and the type of scripts and level of true complexity on the show, it's safe to say he was the best child actor. And he was perfect in every show, very convincing. Move on to Happy Days and American Graffiti and you'll see how truly talented Ron was/is.

So many great episodes...my personal favorite was the bird episode. When he accidentally killed the mama bird it was sad and tragic. You could feel the pain and turmoil. You could feel the disappointment in his dad. But then Opie decides it’s now his responsibility to take care of those starving little birds and he raises them. It shows maturity, responsibility, love and determination. Great episode

Man in a Hurry is the #1 episode in a major poll. The episode combines so many excellent components of the show -- Opie's relationship with his Dad, Barney's silliness, Aunt Bea's graciousness and Gomer's gullible yet sweet disposition.

@lwmson
@lwmson 4 года назад
@@stephenthoren2571 I could easily understand why it would be rated best, because this episode portrayed the elements that made small town Mayberry appealing. Although Tucker, a businessman from the big city, is initially frustrated over the town's lack of efficiency and technological resources in resolving the problem of getting his car fixed, once he interacts with the Mayberry citizens -- with as you say, "Aunt Bea's graciousness and Gomer's gullible yet sweet disposition," as well as Andy's magnanimity and even Opie's small but caring heart -- he realizes that the simple but endearing pleasures of living in a small town, coupled with the genuineness of its people, far outweigh the inconvenience of its primitive technology. He is so moved by it that instead of returning to the city to meet a deadline, he extends his stay in Mayberry.

One of my favorites is the one where there's blasting for a highway to run near Mayberry, and a goat winds up eating a couple cases of the dynamite that's being stored near the Courthouse. And, everyone's scared the goat might "go off". So, it's up to Andy & Barney to find a solution.

One of my favorite scenes featuring Opie is when Opie tries out tactics given him by a spoiled kid to get his own way: He asks for a raise in his allowance, and when Andy turns him down, holds his breath. Andy finally notices, and asks: "What are you doing?" Opie, tight-lipped: "I'm holding my breath!" Andy: "Oh. Good lung exercise." Opie lays down on the floor, rolls around, crying. Andy: "What are you doing now?" Opie: "I'm throwing a fit!" Andy: "Oh...Well, don't get your pants dirty"...Heh...

I see the entire series as a work of art and interpret it as a whole. Saying what my favorite episode is would be like saying what part of the Mona Lisa I prefer. No single part of it is a masterpiece - but, taken as a whole, it is. The magic of the Andy Griffith Show is the world it paints in your imagination. It was because Ron as an adult wisely chose directing over acting. Typecasting is the reason why many child stars are unable to find work as adults.
@lwmson
@lwmson 6 лет назад
If he had become typecast, he would not have gotten any more acting work in Hollywood. That's the point.
@lwmson
@lwmson 6 лет назад
Maybe you're right. I do know that Gary Coleman's parents exploited him financially, which undoubtedly led to the issues he had as an adult. And Danny Bonaduce's father, a frustrated TV screenwriter, out of jealously abused Danny as a child, which was probably why he became so erratic during his adulthood.
@lwmson
@lwmson 6 лет назад
I recall reading an interview somewhere that Danny said his home life during the Partridge Family years was very tumultuous. The abuse from his dad became so intense that at times he had to live with Dave Madden, the guy who played Reuben Kincaid on the show.

My favorite moment of the whole series was a line delivered by Opie at the end of an episode. Throught the show, he was taking advice for a new kid in town, a spoiled rich kid who learned how to manipulate his parents through tantrums. At the end after the spoiled kid was punished, Andy has a talk with Opie who had been emulating the boy. Andy says "Don't you think he deserved to be punished?". And Opie replies, "I don't wanna say on account of... he's one of my own kind." That right there was probably one of the funniest moments in all of television. So well delivered!

I think that the grown-up stuff offered to kids already dizzy from the changes in their lives is actually a form of torture. My girls were invited to a couple of parties in Hollywood when they were young, and were so disgusted with the young people they were anxious to meet and to like that they never were tempted to return. Like every other child trying to grow up in a confusing world, it takes parents who "just say no" to keep the boundaries safe until it is time to see them on their way to reasonable adulthood.

i cant get andy to stop crying. that was a favorite part.or citizens arrest when barney says it is priceless. asking the question what is your favorite show or moment could drive you crazy. some are funny and some hit you heart so hard it just about knocks you over.so i think every part of that series is golden.

Hey Larry, the endless left turn is a term used to describe NASCAR not Formula One.

Shhh!! He's too ignorant to realize F1 ran on the 13 turn road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from 2000-2007? And since they ran in a clockwise instead of counterclockwise direction the main turns on the oval that were incorporated into the road course were right turns for the F1 races held there.

Hahaha....The look on Ron Howard’s face was classic when the conversation was about F1 and at the conclusion Larry King makes the comment about the “endless left turn”. Ron Howard the professional that he is, doesn’t say anything, but the WTH look on his face made me laugh.

What's great is that his dad thought it was funny that he was upset, no doubt he was a caring and thoughtful man, but he wasn't a coddler. Which is why both him and Clint have turned out so well. No doubt they're passing those same values to their own kids, and on it goes.

My favorite episode is the one with Buddy Ebsen in it. He plays a tramp whom Opie idolizes, but with some bad qualities. Andy convinces Buddy he's not a good role model. Buddy then intentionally steals Aunt Bee's purse for the sole purpose of getting Opie not to like him. And that's when Andy admires him for the hero he is.

(Spoiler Alert). To finish the story about Ron’s favorite episode…at the end of the show Helen visits Aunt Bee and they begin going through some photographs Helen shot at the baseball game. When they come to a photograph of Opie crossing Home plate it is clearly evident that Opie was indeed safe. They look at each other a moment, then tear up the photo. Great ending! It’s one of my favorite as well.

Okie grew up on the Andy Griffith show there are several shows Ron as Opie stood out I loved the McBeevee episode I also like the first episode when Aunt Bee Came to live and Rose left but the most memorable for me is when Opie and Ellie the drugiest are getting to know each other she goes to clean the Door Windows and when she wipes away the grime there is Opie peering in on here and boy he sure wants an ice cream cone because he Ain't got no money he can't have it so Ellie makes a deal with young Opie you don't say Ain't no more and I'll give you the ice cream well he had to tell his PA I got the ice cream cause I said I'm not going to say ain't no more so I'm not going to say ain't no more that was classic
