I've spent the last month building my trailer but I went with a steel 16', v nose, 2060 lbs empty. I wanted to be able to strap 4×8 sheet goods to a wall. I used your long shelf idea for my tracks and paint handles, levels, your adjustable dividers for all my nail guns and containers of pex, copper, kreg and I used your big 8'drawer for shovel, post hole digger and demo tools. This is going to make my life so much easier. No more loading and unloading my truck every day. I built shelves for totes and dedicated those totes for plumbing, painting, sheetrock, tile, cabinetry etc. I'm starting a new apartment building next week and it's going to be so much more efficient. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT IDEAS.

I love these videos. I don't have a genuine need for a trailer , although I would like one, but I do work out of a very small shop. I have applied many of your design principles to my shop and it has helped me enormously. It has made my space more efficient, more productive cleaner and most of all a pleasant place to work. Thank you for sharing your ideas and for the tremendous amount of work it takes to present them.

Thanks for all you are able to share with us! It's Sunday and I was at at a client's home to clean-up tools & load them into my trailer... 4 hours, and that's typical at my job sites. I am looking forward to having some down time to consider what portions of SMART I'd be able to make the most use of & how I'll integrate them into the existing layout without ripping all of the existing racks & work bench out to do it! The ladder & roof racks may be the easiest next investment in my "BFT." It's and American Hauler, 12x7x6'-6" w/ deep V nose. arrived with a 3500# axle, broke that the first winter here in northern NJ. Performance Trailers installed a 5500# axle & it's been smooth since! I'ts a pleasure to support your efforts! Thanks Ron!

Hey Ron, I am curious about how you mounted your Milwaukee 12 volt chargers to the side of a cabinet you made. Have you found that they stay in place with just the mounting screw slot on the back of it? I wasn't sure if the bouncing that a trailer goes through would allow them to stay put> also, do the batteries ever fall out? My trailer I have is a 5x8 that I have made a modified SMART trailer out of, using aluminum shelving and weatherguard boxes. Being that the trailer is so small, I wanted to save the thickness of the plywood that I felt would take up too much space. It is amazing how many tools I have in there. Thanks for inspiring me to get myself organized!

Hi Paul, so I purchased your workbench plans about one year ago and I think i'm ready to buildout the trailer. I have a question: "What is your opinion in regard to the high summer heat in the trailer on how it affects the tools?" I'm in Southern Cali. and it gets Blazzzzing hot here…upwards of 105 fahrenheit (standing in the shade). My concern is that the inside of an All aluminum trailer will be like an oven and bake everything to a crisp. Thank you in advance for any insight.

Part of the weight difference between ART and Smart is the trailer frame. ART is an EZ Hauler and SMART is a Mission. EZ Hauler is Mission's less expensive brother. Both are made in the same factory and both are excellent quality. From a weight perspective the Mission has a full length frame and EZ Hauler has a front subframe. This would account for about 100 pounds of the weight difference. Other differences between EZ Hauler and Mission are mission has rubber torsion springs while EZ Hauler has steel leaf springs and Mission has a deeper V-nose. For anyone who is not near a Mission dealer the same company makes Cargo Pro and Stealth trailers. Cargo Pro and Mission are almost identical. EZ Hauler and Stealth are the same. The only differences are minor cosmetic trim.

Great deep dive tour! I know that you can't do an actual build for every vehicle type, but I sure would like to get some feedback from you regarding how you would adapt this Smart Woodshop into a work van. There are so many videos for van racking, but I haven't come across one that says, "Paulk Inspired Work Van Setup". A video would be great - just some comments and sketches regarding the Smart Workshop features that you consider to be "Must Have". Maybe a quick sketchup tour with your ideas and thoughts for upfitting something like a high roof 159" Ford Transit Van. In the meantime, I will be paying close attention to the "build" videos of your Smart Workshop. Thanks!
