VIDEO DETAILS:
This is a fun video. In it cartoonist Ron Wheeler shows a sample of some of his work, as well as an overview of some of the techniques he'll teach throughout this video course. He describes the composition and balance in several of his drawings and describes why he created them the way he did. But what really stands out, and perhaps the main reason why people have used his talents over the years, is the personality of the characters that leap from his work. That personality is mostly centered on the facial expression and body posture of the main character in the drawing. Ron loves drawing facial expressions. Later on, Ron will do a video on how to create facial expressions. So often it only takes a few lines in some key places to communicate a variety of emotions. The scenes Ron draws, whether for a magazine article, curriculum project, or children's book, usually centers on an event in the story that becomes highlighted by the emotion that comes through the central character. They are fun for Ron to draw. And if they are fun for him, they are fun for the reader to look at.
