I saw this interview on air in Rome when I was a kid. We were visiting friends and the TV was on so just watched it all the way through. Some of it it has stuck with me for decades, like when Ronnie comments about The Edge's solo on "still haven't found". When Joshua Tree came out, that summer was ecstatic. The music was everywhere, in every supermarket, in every radio, in every airport, you would here it coming out of houses walking down the street. It has been for me the most profound music release ever. Nothing has engulf the world in music so much since. It was just wonderful.
That's wonderful. My brother bought the record when I was 10. The record never left my mind. Now I am in my forties. This music gave me something to hold on to when nothing was sure. If someone can cry out like that, they must feel something of what I am feeling. I thank God for what He gave me through music.
I'm from Central California, inland from the coast a couple of hours. There is absolutely nothing UK-ish or remotely European about where I grew up. It was country music and heavy metal in the 80's when I was in high school. And yet when The Joshua Tree was released, those songs were booming out of car stereos in the parking lot. U2 were on the cover of Time Magazine on coffee tables and in doctors' offices. It was The Beatles getting off the plane in 1963, mid 80's style. Prince maybe did it with Purple Rain, possibly Springsteen with Born in the USA, Michael Jackson with Thriller... U2 took over suburban households and car stereos like no band I had ever known of except possibly the acts I just mentioned. I'll never understand the critics claiming that Nirvana four and a half years later was the second coming. I want to ask those same critics, "Where were you when U2 took over the world for 18 months beginning with the release of The Joshua Tree in the spring of '87?"
I got to meet Ron Wood when I was working at a hotel. He was as nice as they come. I said hello to him, he walked over and looked me in the eye as he shook my hand.
Hi Bibien.. God.. 20 years.. time goes by.. how can i imagine that after 13 years, he would be holding me in him arms in my city, Rio de Janeiro, and i would be following him around, watching Walk On record video sitting with my friends under the rain.. and when he looked us just started to sing for us.. "I lost myself in a summer rain" .. my god, i will never forget this week.. NEVER for hole my life! It was november, 21-27, 2000.
I listen to a lot of many different types of music Band's, and I really Love U2 and all of their songs, they're my most Favorite Band that I have ever had the Pleasure of seeing Live in Concert, I like they're Music so Much in Fact, that I went to see them live - 7 times. Their Music has inspired me to work through some Very Hard Times in My life and look up to them to be able to really fight for the thing's that I Truly believe in In a good manner. I have been able to be fortunate enough to get to see other Band's but / THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT THEY EVEN COME CLOSE TO MAKING A GREAT DIFFERENCE IN MANY DIFFERENT ASPECTS AS U2. I hope that one day I'll be able to make a great difference in the World as U2 & be lucky enough to get to meet them In Person, they are " Best " and my Heroes.
Tere is no one else no other singer whit this kind of charisma like Bono!! unbelivebull hansome!! Bono let grow you hair long again, you still can have it!!! waaaaauuuuuuuuuuw what a Hunk!!! :D
I was actually wondering if u had anything constructive to say about how it is u feel the way u do about him. he's an AMAZING talent and an incredible contribution to world politics.
3 or 4 months is too long to record a record he says? He doesn't want to take that long next time he says? Wish 2010 Bono would have a look at this video and take his own advice. Enough with this 4-5 year recording span. The band should lock themselves in a basement with all the original gear they used on Boy, and emerge a month later either dead, or with the best album of their careers.
that was irish to a tee. we have a thing that you don't want to give to much away. even if its a pure loving moment we will either have a handshake with silence or take the piss.
That's GREAT!! A true human being - just like the rest of us. Is he perfect? Obviously not! Are you? Am I? Just enjoy the songs and the music - and fer fook's sake if ya don't like it, write create something beautiful yerself!!!! Already...
Ronnie seems only half interested here. Or maybe, Ronnie doesn't want Bono to see the look of love in his eyes....I mean, who wouldn't be attracted to Bono?!!! The guy is delicious!!
"4 months to make a record, i don't want to take that much time on our next record" come on Bono, love you guys been a fan for over 34 years, but now you take 5 to 6 years between records and honestly they aren't as good as the ones you made in 4 months. Next record after Songs of Experience should be done in 3 weeks!
@bigbiggedybigman man I think you're just yapping,I wonder if he was to be mute from the first to the last second of this interview you would most likely have said he was pretentious too. Whatever Bono says he is always pretentious is he. That's when you're a rock star.
Ronnie was in one of the greatest bands ever- The Faces with Rod Stewart. Go look at some of their live performances. Get album Gasoline Alley. I always loved them. But U2 is superior to them all.
Oh come one The Joshua Tree reeks of Heroin. "With or without You" - what do you think that's about. Bono's happily married. I've seen interviews with Bono where he says he was on alot in the 80's
