I don’t know what it is about his swing but it is my favorite in the mlb, it’s so satisfying to watch him hit homeruns

What a unique swing. Bat is vertical at landing. Amazing how much speed and power he generates with such a short swing. EXPLOSIVE!

Hopefully Ronald can play for many seasons (20+) and avoid the kinds of chronic injuries that plagued Andruw Jones later in his career.

Acuna's swing is very similar to Roberto Clemente and Ernie Banks. He's chasing a 50-50 season in 2020, one of the most exciting young players in the game.

I don't think he is "pulling back" I think he is creating separation with his lower half.

I will like to see pitchers attacking him up and in . To se how he adjust to it. That pitch is easy . Down mid-out 💪💪💪

I've heard someone (probably John Smoltz) say he's similar to Roberto Clemente...speaking of smoltzy I've heard him say a couple of times he hopes RAJ can continue to hit with that style but thinks he's gonna have to make some adjustments as he gets older. I think he's got some good things going with his swing especially his pull back like you mentioned Matt. I could see him maybe shortening his stride a little to maybe get his swing more compact but I hope he doesn't change anything that takes away from the good things I see in his swing

Do you think with his bat not having to move so far to get in the zone he has a advantage on fast pitching. It's not wrapped around his head. It's already in the closest place to be to get in the zone by being straight up and down.
@patrickgoodman4576
@patrickgoodman4576 5 лет назад
It's a shorter swing like that but starting the bat from that position creates more arc in the swing which isn't so good if you're not trying to hit the ball in the air with Power

I'll be honest I thought he would struggle with his hands doing exactly what you talk about early in the video, almost like they are disconnected from his shoulder. I thought offspeed would give him trouble or high FB's but he seems to hit whatever they throw. I wonder how many instructors have tried to change him over the years. Also do you have any videos of any NO STRIDE hitters you have Reviewed?

The other interesting thing he does that's different to other swings is how far away from his core his hands are at the beginning of his swing. Most players have their hands tight to the body, but not him. You can see it better from the center field angle.
@bmilone68
@bmilone68 5 лет назад
You keep saying he’s pulling his hands back but I actually believe it’s more walking/stepping away from his hands as he strides. The hands never really move back if you look at them in relation to the stands behind him, they more or less simply don’t come forward as he strides, which creates the separation and stretch. His hands are already way back in his set up and simply by leaving them there as he strides it almost creates an arm bar with his lead arm. Would you agree?
@AntonelliBaseball
@AntonelliBaseball 5 лет назад
Brian Milone In my opinion if you just leave your hands And don’t actively pull back while you stride (or some will push back with lead arm a bit) The hands will come forward with the body. When I watch him he has some push back with lead arm and a little bit of pull back with rear. I like to teach pull back with Scap I feel it keeps hitter from getting that arm bar feel where they can’t turn the barrel as well. Not sure if I answered your question lol
@bmilone68
@bmilone68 5 лет назад
Antonelli Baseball I agree and that is something my son has worked very hard at and it’s paying huge dividends, I just don’t think Acuna actually pulls his hands back to create the stretch, he’s just a freakish athlete too!

Curious if you believe in deceleration in the hips and torso? Looks like he also has some crossbody and a slight kickback. Most MLB players are doing the kickback which is not new-goes all the way back to Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron. Do you think this is a magic move for power?

A comparison I’m surprised to have not seen is Jeter. DJ’s hands were higher than Acuña’s but they both have that barrel pointed to the ground unlike many.

Hand-eye coordination, timing, and balance, period. Everything else is dogma. The greatest hitters in history all hit different. Find "your swing" with those three things.

@hephaestus1128

I knew his swing was unique but seeing it in slow motion I'm very impressed with how quickly his barrel gets into the zone. In this particular swing his back foot drags about 3 inches forward before he puts weight back down on it. I thought that was strange too but what do I know. It's clearly working for him.
