the thing is cr prob has a size around 9 but the vapor 4 run a half size long and had the most roomy and widest fit of all vapors thats why his custom model is smaller than the default one. you def need some boot knowledge to explain stuff like
so here’s the thing- i’ve always bought mine a half size smaller, because i personally feel like with a tighter fit, i can feel “closer” to the ball, which i really do notice the difference, especially when i wear laceless boots nowadays, its really a preference in my opinion... but 2 sizes down is too much
A big thing is it’s tight on the toes for you but remember he has the chance to customize his cleats . He maybe made the toe area wider or added a bit of padding and make the heel thinner who knows but they are able to do there little tricks until they find the perfect fit

As a rock climber!! I can totally understand Ronaldo’s thinking. Having a tighter pair of shoes makes the feel and sensitivity of your foot that much better. But we are missing the elephant in the room and that is Ronaldo’s boots are custom made to fit his foot. He might have a smaller heel and maybe the shoe covers a smaller portion of his heel so the whopping size differences might make more plausible sense. And if your making millions playing at the top of your game then, a little squashed in the toes is trivial.
I actually about two three years ago put my friends football shoes that were two size smaller then mine because I didn't have my football shoes and when I shot the ball it was way more power full and I did some crazy shots! It helped a lot with my shorts but hurt my toe so I didn't continue with it
Massive advocate 4 the one size smaller playing boot. A couple of points though... 1. Choosing a model with a broader & less pointy toe section is key. 2. Quality leather is crucial. Avoid synthetic, go 4 Kangaroo or Cow hide instead. This will allow the boot to mould to your feet like a glove. I find that none of the popular brands like Nike, Adidas or Puma ever meet my criteria. I opt 4 smaller European quality brands from Italy & Spain instead. Kelme & Joma are great!!
You could see him try so much harder in the agility part whilst wearing the size nines and with the passing when he was wearing the 7.5s he wasnt even looking at the mannequine
My sister actually told me that if you wear a smaller size boots you could really feel the ball better.. and that’s what i do. When i was still growing i would get new boots every year, because they would get too tight for me. But now i don’t get new ones that often, because it’s really better but not that comfortable.

Every footballer knows that if you buy leather shoes go with half or one size smaller,this doesn't stand if you are getting the new type of shoes made from synthetic material because they dont stretch much after a while.
I’ve been doing this since I was old enough to understand my own body in football. What I would do personally is I would warm up for a little while with out shoes on. To allow the muscles in my feet to get some blood flow and movement before squeezing them into my tight fighting boots. As this would avoid fatigue in my feet and allow for better performance from a physiological stand point. Also at times, dependent on the model, I would wear a half a size bigger on my right foot as it is much wider than my left foot. Playing with very tight cleats is really a whole different world. Regarding the touch you need to be more aware of the feeling and it requires some adjusting because there is less cushion with a tighter clear this is what you were experiencing. Also you were basically more engaged and warmed up to control the ball because of the previous session with the size 9. All and all players choice but tighter fitting clear in my opinion has a greater benefit this is how I have my son playing.
i think he has his street shoes way wider so his regular size is probably around 8 and he uses 9 on streets and 7.5 on the pitch.. makes way more sense
You can achieve a snug fit with double socks. What it does is it makes the boot fuller and gets rid of any ridges your foot has so your touch is padded also when you shoot it’s padded and gives the contact area a flatter surface than your foots bones.. the cleats now and days are too thin so your touch isn’t as padded like the cleats from the past generations.. try it out

Kieran I think you felt that the size 9 was more better as you told that your size is 9 I could see that it was bit difficult for you to were it the size 7.5
Ronaldo also uses a boot steamer before he goes out.. which make the boots mould better to the foot. Obviously only professionals can do this as you will only get 1-2 matches out of a pair if they’re steamed (I tried it once).
Think you should of done test with the two boots together at once because one boot is smaller than the other when Ronaldo plays so that would make it fair
It's actually a popular thing in sport. To win more performances, we choose our shoes/boots between 1 and 2 sizes under our real size. In Freestyle Roller, I know at least 3 people who does that too but I've seen feet of one of them: it's awful, his feet are retracted on themselves and form a big bump...
My coaches brother played pro for the US national team and at Fiorentina for a bit... he told us most pros wear their boots this small. We’ve been doing it every since. Doesn’t hurt once you break them in and get used to it. Also.. professional balls sound like metal when you hit them.
Not to be a stick in the mud, but there are so many other factors that come into play in this sort of "Try one on for a test, then the other straight after and do the same test again" way of doing it. What you are used to + neuromuscular synergies / experience in the test second time and sensory input for starters. It'd be better to do this a day or two apart, even longer if possible :) Go out for a day, do all the tests in one set of boots, then wait a few days and test out the other boots another day :)
Overall.. yes you could play with boots that are maybe 1 or half size smaller but in long term you will hurt your toes really badly.. so the best is goin true to size - max half size especially with leather boots.. when you want tight fit - change model.. there are many models available.. just dont hazard with your health.. you have only one feet.. i saw footballer who used to play with one size smaller synthetic classic merc or Xs.. and they feet were terrible..
the dribbling and skills should be easier because there is less of the shoe that ball has to get caught on. So dragging your foot on the top of the ball would be easier because there is less of the shoe
He does the trick where you remove the insoles and soak them in hot water and then put em on still warm so they stretch to his feet. He doesn't just wear them straight out of the box.
I wear my football socks and another pair of normal socks over them so it gives me a better feel on the ball and it makes the boot tighter without hurting your feet. That’s just what I do, I know everyone is different
Having no empty space at the end of the toe-box greatly helps me hit better knuckleballs. But it's very difficult for me to find a boot which fits that way length-wise without crippling my midfoot and/or crushing my big-toe. My shoes are comfortable from size 8 to 9 (depending on brand), but the only way to remove all empty space in the toe-box is with a size 7 to 7.5. I bet CR7 had a similar issue.
It's also possible that his foot width is disproportional to the length. I always thought I wore size 11 shoes, but it just turns out I wear size 8.5-9 length but extra wide.
I tried wearing smaller size shoes, but it hurts a lot, i put them in hot water,i did the trick where you put a bag in the boots and fill it with water and then put them in the freezer so the water can expand the shoe, but non of that helped…So Ronaldo wears a boots that is measured by his feet by Nike,not just a smaller size boots
to be honest, I would kinda recommend a smaller size than a bigger one, not much, just like 0,5. When I bought my last pair of boots, they didnt have my usual size, so I bought the smaller ones, and they are pretty tight I am not gonna lie, my nails dont appreciate it as well, but I think I am playing better with them xD
Cr boots are custom to his feet brands can measure his actual foot size down to a T and it’s not the regular size you see in stores all boots are custom made for him and modified he’s been doing it for years so that his boots don’t have any extra room or they’re not to tight but a perfect fit 👍🏼
I used to wear the Adidas F50s a size smaller as I liked the control I got moving the ball. However, I agree, my toes were always sore and I believe this is the reason for ingrown toenails now.
I have always worn my boots a size small heat them up with warm water or a hair dryer then wear them a few hours but it takes about a week of playing daily to really break them in and they will feel like socks

holy moly, I thought I was the only one who did that, the thing is your gonna put the tighter boot on your stronger foot for less cushioning when you shoot, bigger boot on your weaker foot it gives cushion and control, also your weaker foot gets a shoot boost.
His are custom made so a size 8 could be different for him than the mass produced size. Please no one should try this it will only hurt your foot and stunt growth
I have been wearing a size smaller studs then my normal sports shoes for more than 3 years now its just about time taken by your toe to adjust to smaller size but the results are great better acceleration, better dribbling , better shooting and i always feel in the game wearing a smaller size. I totally recommend it just wear a smaller size for a month then see your result you will be surprised
It’s really all about preference. For me personally I have always like tight fitting boots so I’ve gone as small as one size down. But it’s not uncommon. Studying Kinesiology I learn many players go down a couple sizes specially Brazilians. However the affect on your feet could really out weigh the benefit. So if you are going to try this use cation.
did you take into account that maybe you had warmed up and that's why you might have performed better on a certain test rather than the shoe size itself?
