American diplomacy is under siege. Offices across the State Department sit empty, while abroad the military-industrial complex has assumed the work once undertaken by peacemakers. We’re becoming a nation that shoots first and asks questions later. In an astonishing account ranging from Washington, D.C., to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and North Korea in the years since 9/11, acclaimed journalist and former diplomat Ronan Farrow illuminates one of the most consequential and poorly understood changes in American history. His firsthand experience in the State Department affords a personal look at some of the last standard-bearers of traditional statecraft, including Richard Holbrooke, who made peace in Bosnia and died trying to do so in Afghanistan. Farrow’s narrative is richly informed by interviews with warlords, whistleblowers, and policymakers, from Henry Kissinger to Hillary Clinton. Diplomacy, Farrow argues, has declined after decades of political cowardice, short-sightedness, and outright malice―but it may just offer America a way out of a world at war. Join Farrow and Huff Post Editor-In-Chief Lydia Polgreen as they discuss "War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence" at BUILD.

Dear God! A guy who is intelligent, has journalistic integrity, is able to grasp complex issues and can hold an intelligent conversation! This guy should run for President of the USA! Please let me wake up from this nightmare!

I sure hope that he is able to reach that age...his fearless reporting has been good for awards, but it is up against some formidable status quo forces.

One of the BEST things about Ronan's Journalism is that whatever you read, you know its the TRUTH

Ronan is the antonym for the term "spin" in the political sense, and I am supporting the designation of the word "Ronan" as that meaning at the Oxford English Public Forum. The moderator, Simone, agreed that a case can be made for this definition. forum.oxforddictionaries.com/en/discussion/428/creating-an-antonym-for-the-political-idiom-spin

The brilliance of Mr. Ronan Farrow as he articulates every facet of the topic brought about in this intelligent conversation is indeed one for our history books. What an exceptional mind for someone so young. I am completely awestruck.

This is the first interview I've seen from the Build Series and it was fantastic! I wish all interviewers were like Lydia who seemed to actually have read the book, asked thoughtful questions, created great dialogue which moved the interview along so well.

Great interview, thank you. It's interesting Ronan explains how the "dusty bureaucrats" who get no thanks for doing their job. My friend sent off for a shampoo for her son, in return, she received 20 US biometric, stamped passports!! As it happens, she is a good person, and despite being told to put them in the bin, by police, she took them to the US embassy in London. It could have gone badly wrong.

It is true! We are all caught up in this war with no prior warnings. In order to have any peace, one must simply go forward with life without looking back!

Robyn - not everyone understands the seriousness of international relations. Ronan's eclectic experiences gives him the kind of ability to put factors together to really put things into perspective. Maybe some day this will dawn on CaliforniaPickin.

Regardless (and not that Trump has not earned every bit of the derision!) Ronan is very measured in his responses and characterizations of all, even those who don't deserve it. It speaks volumes as to his own personal integrity.

Suzanne Vorstenbosch 30%? Where did you get that number?. Trump got 46% (just a 2% difference with HC) of the votes. For the non-voters, we don‘t know if they supported him or not.
