De Amsterdamse Rivierenbuurt, ontworpen door H.P. Berlage als stadsarchitect, is gebouwd in de Amsterdamse Schoolstijl. Architecten als Michel de Klerk, Jan van der Mey en Piet Kramer ontwikkelden rond 1910 een nieuwe bouwstijl. Zo ontstond, als reactie op het sobere rationalisme, de expressieve stijl van de Amsterdamse School.
Ik ben bezig om alle straten van de Rivierenbuurt te bewandelen en in beeld te brengen met de camera. Dat lukt me natuurlijk niet in één keer . . . .
In het 18e deel van mijn video's neem ik je mee naar het gedeelte van de Rivierenbuurt dat RAI heet.
Het congres- en evenementencomplex van de RAI ligt aan het Europaplein en is ontworpen door Alexander Bodon.
Het werd op 2 februari 1961 geopend. Nadien vonden nog vele uitbreidingen plaats, zoals het Congrescentrum, de Amstelhal, het Hollandcomplex en de Parkhal.
De RAI beslaat nu het hele oppervlak tussen de Wielingenstraat, het Scheldeplein, het Europaplein, de Europaboulevard, het station Amsterdam RAI, de ringweg van Amsterdam (A10) en het Beatrixpark.

The Amsterdam Rivierenbuurt, designed by H.P. Berlage as city architect, was built in the Amsterdam School style. Architects such as Michel de Klerk, Jan van der Mey and Piet Kramer developed a new architectural style around 1910. Thus, as a reaction to austere rationalism, the expressive style of the Amsterdam School emerged.
I am busy walking all the streets of the Rivierenbuurt and capturing them with the camera. Of course I can't do that in one go. . . .
In the 18th part of my videos I take you to the part of the Rivierenbuurt called RAI.
The RAI conference and events complex is located on Europaplein and was designed by Alexander Bodon
It opened on February 2, 1961. Many expansions took place afterwards, such as the Congress Center, the Amstelhal, the Holland complex and the Parkhal.
The RAI now covers the entire area between Wielingenstraat, Scheldeplein, Europaplein, Europaboulevard, Amsterdam RAI station, the Amsterdam ring road (A10) and the Beatrix Park.
