I’m raising the speed of the blower. Spin the sheave tighter. Align the belt when you’re done so it doesn’t damage the sheave and belt. Tension the belt to 3/4” at 3lb force.

FYI need to check the motor amps before and after might already be at max rated. This will increase your amp draw and burns motors out

EXACTLY!! That's why I'm here. @Dennis Benjamin I burned out TWO motors last summer messing around w/the adjustable pulley and set it wrong which "over-amped" the motor. How do you adjust the pulley get the most out of it and NOT burn it out??

By adjusting the pulley for size but then lengthening the distance for tension, won’t you net a similar final RPM at the flywheel? Seems like you’d adjust the pulley and have to resize the belt. Hard to know without clocking the flywheel for RPM.

tr1pl333 you’re right that clocking it would be the surest way. However, the length of the belt doesn’t matter, only the circumference/width of the pulleys. Tension is important to keep the belt from slipping and wearing itself out. Thanks for commenting! :)

Great video. I just have a question, when it comes to the belt. There are units that use belt with teeth and some with no teeth. What is the difference?”
@dennisbenjamin3602
@dennisbenjamin3602 2 года назад
Teeth help the belt last longer. Basically when the belt turns the sharp corner around the pulley, it puts extra force (heat) on the thickness of the belt, so using the teeth reduces the heat. The cost difference of the belt of teeth (AX##) and non teeth (A##) is something like $12 teeth and $7 for non teeth.

I tightened the Sheave which may have sped up the makeup air, but definitely not enough. It should work if I put a larger sheave, should it not?

It should, but is not in manufactures specs. At this point I’d start looking at duct work issues or size of the unit. What you’ll get us extra load on the motor cause premature wear, strain on the belt and wheel bearings. Tightening the sheave is a bandaid but replacing the sheave with larger is a bandaid I probably wouldn’t recommend. In answer to your question, yes it will make the wheel spin faster.

I have this style, belt driven blower in my house. Can I retrofit to a new style blower that isn't belt driven ? Doesn't blow nearly hard enough to cool the house. Event after tightening the pulley

ReTroKadez yeah I suppose you could retrofit a direct drive motor. In Portland there is a company called Conrey Electric that could come up with a wheel for you to match what you have, or pretty close. Then buy a belly band that would fit the housing. The problem I see with this idea is that the airflow would not be specific, that you’d have to play with it to get it right, maybe try a couple different motors. If you have good refrigerant pressures and your temp drop is large, it’s probably ductwork related airflow problems. If temp drop is normal and you increase your airflow, you wouldn’t get more cooling, just more air velocity at the register. This also would reduce the amount of dehumidifying the system would do. There’s alot more to it but in a nutshell....
