The Dejhor is sign of being Kashmiri Pandit woman which holds much more importance in her life.. parents of all Kashmiri Pandit community get ear cartilage pierced at a younger age of their girls, so that they face minimum pain and made them wear small studs of gold. The actual function comes in place on the day of Devgon of the girl, a day before marriage. she baths and wear a new saree. which follows a yagna where the puja of all those gold ornaments and other things takes place, which her family gifts her on the day of marriage. The purpose of this yagna is to invite all the Devi- Devtas to shower their blessings on bride to have her future journey of life auspicious for her in-laws. During Devgon girl is made to wear the dejhor along with Nairvan (red sacred thread) which is being passed through the piercing she had in childhood and the beautiful ornament hang in it. This all process signifies that she is married now .The actual structure of Dejhor used to be hexagonal shape with a chunni at the centre in a dot form, which signifies the shiv- shakti chakra, hence indicating the bonding between the new couple....
Once the lagan takes place and bride leaves and reaches to her new home, the Nairvan is being replaced with ath (the chain) &Poffi of groom helps bride in this process.Now the chain is hanging through ears and holding Dejhor at bottom of it...it signifies that marriage is completed now... the combination of ath and Dejhor tells about the bonding of two families, love and blessing of couple for each other.
DEJHOR Adopted by KP community women from centuries together, having solid religious background behind it.
