Rooing is a method to harvest fleeces that is an alternative to shearing. In this video I explain all about rooing our Shetland Sheep.

Thanks for sharing amazing video and insights. I believe shetland and Icelandic are one of the most ancient breeds. Their wool too is very durable. One character of ancient sheep i often hear is they naturally shed wool too. Is it true?

Thanks for the nice comment - I have heard that also about ancient breeds, but I can't say for sure!

You are absolutely amazing and I can tell you treat your sheep with loving care. I would love to buy a fleece and spin your wonderful fiber. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.

Very interesting. Is spinning rood fiber different than sheared?
@SoftShetlandWool
@SoftShetlandWool 6 месяцев назад
Thanks! I think the biggest difference is in preparation, I don't really notice a difference when spinning it.

That sheep does not look like she's comfortable at all. At least shearing is done quicker.

How do you know the right time to strip wool from a sheep?
@SoftShetlandWool

They have a natural break, so y ou just check them every so often to see if they've hit the break
