Rooing is a method to harvest fleeces that is an alternative to shearing. In this video I explain all about rooing our Shetland Sheep.

Thanks for sharing amazing video and insights. I believe shetland and Icelandic are one of the most ancient breeds. Their wool too is very durable. One character of ancient sheep i often hear is they naturally shed wool too. Is it true?

Very interesting. Is spinning rood fiber different than sheared?

Thanks! I think the biggest difference is in preparation, I don't really notice a difference when spinning it.

We use the coats to keep the wool clean, our supplier is here in the states - here is a blog post I wrote all about the coats. whisperingpinesshetlands.blogspot.com/2020/06/everything-i-can-think-of-to-tell-you.html I hope this helps!

That sheep does not look like she's comfortable at all. At least shearing is done quicker.

How do you know the right time to strip wool from a sheep?

They have a natural break, so y ou just check them every so often to see if they've hit the break
