As a DM I'm inclined to agree with you.... Expecting your DM to automatically update to the latest rules on the other-hand just because WOTC has pumped out a revised book of monsters that's basically a mashup of two previously published books? Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of that and consider that wrong... I'm of the opinion that DMs are under no obligation to allow or use the latest rules changes, and while yes players might be able to pressure a DM into letting them use stuff from a given book this doesn't mean that its going to be better. (Lots of things boil down to execution...) As for beefy Kobolds? I'd consider that the exception rather than the rule.... And likely the result of something else going on.... (Magical enhancement, exposure to alchemichal mutagen, a very inebriated dragon in the family tree, radiation exposure, being the Kobold version of Siatama....)
My brother ran a kobold sorcerer named Alf the inedible. he had been given the greatest blessing any kobold could ever want, the power of tasting horrible. When you're the Snickers bar the monsters world ability to not be on the menu is wonderful.
Kobolds are my favorite creature in d&d, I actually really like what they did to the player race in the new book since it makes them more unique, like your kobold was special and that's why they became an adventurer, if only they gave them a racial feat that gives them wings so they could become a Urd. it also just makes them a good race instead of one that's mostly used for joke characters since they are weak outside of that pack tactics. as for them as monsters they are super fun, yes their health pool is low but they breed in the hundreds and are super quick to mature, meaning there could be massive hoards of them that match the amount of gold pieces in that dragon's hoard. they are smart little fuckers who can tpk a party of any level if used correctly. in the campaign setting I'm making atm I have so many unique things my kobolds will do, not just normal traps a rogue would easily spot. they are mad scientist with the backing of a dragon (I have a dragon in my setting that just keeps kobolds around because he finds them entertaining and just gives them what they need to make crazy stuff lol.)
I once heard a hilarious kobold character concept, A Kobold that was raised by dragonborn. Tiny cute lizard man thinking and acting proud like a dragonborn is hilarious to me, like a kid saying "I'm a big boy now!"
My favorite kobold was Kurt the barbarian. I joined a campaign and got stuck with the NPC pet as my character for the campaign. In the end, Kurt was achieved godhood, loophole his way into becoming the only god, and in the epilogue, removed death from his realm. And this was somehow not played for laughs. Go figure
I had homebrew story on a group of Kololds following a herd of Blink Mammoths into a portal and wound up on what seemed a small planet made out of ice and space debris, in order to survive, they dug down into the ice and found at what was at the core was the frozen body of a white dragon, they tried to melt the ice but the elemental remnant of its corpse made it almost impossible, however they got some of its blood and after drinking it, they mutated into White Kobolds that could survive this new world.
Bet Group of 4 Lvl 1 Adventurers approach a lone Kobold on the road. Little kobold offers a red apple to the group. The group endeared by this random act of kindness walk up to get the apple a give headpats. The two at the front fall into a pit trap with sharpened sticks, alarmed the cleric and rogue prepare for an attack but the cleric is hit by a huge log swinging in from the left. There is the sound of shattered glass behind the rogue and he turns to see a broken glass jar and 6 angry hornets before being stung to death
Hi rugby your doing great just sound out the words and tell rook that omg this was great your little animations and little things of your self so good this was great and I can’t wait to incorporate kobolds into whatever I do next great job👍😄
My groups plays a kobold game every Friday. My Character Peb is constantly getting maimed by his fellow kobolds accidentally. He is currently covered head to toe in bandages. Another member lost their tail, and someone else keeps losing fingers to their own traps and spells.
@@Rookzer0 it's not all bad. It's there is humor to be found. One of the funniest things to me is how the most useful member of the party is a 4yr old elf girl we kidnapped, who rolls 3-12 nat 20s a game.
