I should mention that I did do some minor consulting work for Shark on the IQ Robot project, I even appeared in their infomercial all of which I was paid for, so keep that in mind as I go through this, but I think you will see that we try really hard to be objective in our tests and try to show the good stuff as well as the bad stuff so you can make your own call as to which one is the best.

@* Type in Shark IQ problems and you will get a very different opinion of the robot vacuum. 40-60 runs to develop a map of the floor, can not make/save other maps, clogs due to over full (can not detect when bin is full), Limited battery life, it goes on.

I sincerely salute you for putting the Deebot at the top of the list of CFM rankings again unlike the last video, for mentioning how long it took to clean each room (a comparison table for all robot vacs would be nice like the CFM table), and for showing DB levels (another table with each power setting on each vacuum would be very nice). I still think a more objective crevice test would be nice by weighing the amount of dirt picked up. Keep up the good work.

Watching this again after seeing it when it first came out and when I got my Shark IQ. VW's bias towards the Shark is subtle, but very much there. For example, throwing in numbers for the non-cleanbase model when they were better. This isn't a review of the non-cleanbase model. VW also didn't mention that at least last year, it took 30-40 runs for the Shark to map out a simple floorplan. But, after having had the Shark for all this time, it does get the job done and has not given me any problems. I'd like to swap it with the second-floor robot, a Neato D7, to compare them, but I don't want to risk another 30-40 mapping runs. And since the 2nd floor is more complicated and larger, I don't trust that the Shark would be able to handle it. And speaking of larger floorplans, the Shark battery doesn't last very long and it takes a long time to charge and fully recharges during recharge/resume. So getting the job fully done takes a long time. I would not return the Shark and am happy with it, especially considering the much lower price. But I wanted to give a less biased opinion of the shortcomings.

@VuNguyen-hf7vi

I found that the first few run, with shark, you'll need to give the robot the most optimal condition to operate. This will speedup the mapping process. I got my shark to mapped my 2k square foot home after 2 runs. The optimal conditions in this case are keep your light on and clear out obstacles.

I bought the Shark Auto-Empty vacuum while having some worries from multiple other videos saying that they had problems with it. I've had it for about two weeks, now, and all I can say is that all of my worries were futile. I'm not affiliated with any of these RU-vid channels or companies, but was a concerned consumer, like all of you. I have a 500 sq. ft apartment with hardwood floors, rugs, chairs, plants, guitar stand, etc. I ran a full cleaning twice a day for about a week until I got a full map of my apartment, which is the point when you can tell the robot to clean specific rooms. So, that's not a dealbreaker for me for saving like $600. Once you get through that first week, then you're completely hands-off. Another thing with the mapping, I find that it's done a very good job of getting into all the nooks and crannies of my apartment, and it's pretty gentle when hitting things. Wasn't close to knocking over my guitar stand, and I don't think it will knick the wooden feet of my furniture. There was only one part of my apartment where I had to use the provided "no-go" magnetic strips -- a multi-level shelf that had a low lip on the bottom shelf it kept trying to get up on. It seems in the future, with the app-based "no-go" zones, I'll be able to get rid of that one strip. I was also worried about noise, but it's not even close to the volume of my traditional vacuum cleaner, and it actually seems to do a good job of cleaning, even when running on Eco (quiet) mode. You'll know that it's on, but it's probably equivalent to someone washing dishes in volume. Also, the battery life on my particular vacuum has been longer than the 60 minutes they claim, but it's likely to go down over time. I haven't had any hair stuck in the roller, and the app hasn't been a bad experience. In fact, it's been pretty positive. The only thing with the app is that it was a little touchy for me when I was dragging the boxes around to designate the rooms on my map, but that will likely improve with software updates and is only something you need to do once. Also, I wish you could schedule the cleaning of specific rooms. You can currently only schedule full cleanings and specify specific rooms during ad hoc cleanings (or do full house ad hoc cleanings). In the end, I have no doubts in my mind that I made the right purchase with getting the Shark Auto-Empty in comparison to the expensive Roomba alternatives. I love this thing. :)

Non-trivial correction: The Shark IQ AE does not have a sensor in its dust bin, thus does not return to its base for emptying when full as stated in the video.
@Beanyvids
@Beanyvids 2 года назад
That is definitely important and I'm glad I read your comment. I've been trying to figure out a replacement for my current aging robot vac, and one of those reasons is that the bin gets full in literally 4 minutes of vacuuming (CATS!) so I basically have to stand over it and empty it constantly, ruining the point of it being a robot. So "return to base for emptying" is kind of important. Thanks for letting me know to look into this further.

We used a competitor vacuum for just over a year and it broke and wouldn’t pick up hair🌼 It was not a cheap model - it was the number one rated robot vacuum on a leading consumer reporting site. We tried the Roomba and it is hands down the champ. Features, brains, suction...it works better! It’s smart map feature is very helpful. Once it learns your home you can tell it which room or rooms to clean and which ones to skip. App is handy and clean and the self emptying feature is fantastic.

dyarom you got the 985. Costco does not sell the 960. Because you have the 985, you can tell your roomba to always vacuum on the high power setting which will do a better job at picking up dust from hardwood floor. To answer your question, yes I have the i7+. In my opinion it works just fine. I like that I can pick rooms individually and I can gray out areas where I don’t want my i7 to go instead of using the virtual wall that came in the box. Unfortunately the i7+ is back to regular price $999. I also have the mop robot. With both my hardwood floor looks amazing. I also have the s9+. I just returned a shark vac due to its poor performance in getting dog hair out of our carpet compared to our roomba 960. Where our roomba was under 2 hour charge time meaning its job was complete when we get home from work instead of still running like the shark was

I love my new Shark. Ive run it maybe a dozen times now. Cleans very well and empties itself and it’s so fun to watch. It does however miss rooms entirely, but I need to figure out how to tell it where to go, with the app that I downloaded. The non-techie me will work on that now. PS I have a Golden Retriever and lots of hair in the house and it does extremely well with the hair, doesn’t clog, and empties itself. Just a few hairs in the brushes after the dozen runs, easy to pull those out.

Hi @Vacuum Wars ! Great video. I recently purchased an IQ for my mother. We are hoping to set it up soon. Watching other videos, for example Adam's Tech Review on the IQ, I'm hearing there are problems with the IQ mapping a whole house, having problems w/ the app and resizing the map. Can you speak to any of these problems? Does the IQ have a way of determining if the bin is full? Or does it only return to the base prematurely if the battery is low? Fort inrush setup and testing, I was going to set it up at my house then take it to hers. Would this cause too many problems making it not worth it? Thanks so much.

@paso fino The unit is amazing! Never had cleaner floors and not having to empty the unit all the time is wonderful. The only problem is the Map making can take a while to get right. Had to reset it a few times. Make sure all lights are on in the house for it to "see" where it is going as it won't map a dark room. Once the map is made "correctly" do NOT name the rooms as that will mess up the map again. Just run it normally everyday to get your house done, even if it only one room you want done. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for this review. I bought the i7+ and for the last 30 days have not been happy with it’s performance. I’ve been thinking of taking it back to the store for a refund and just purchasing the less expensive Shark IQ and now I’m sold! I hate that the i7+ only has a brush on one side. I have noticed it tends to kick the dirt around rather than pick it up. For the price point, it shouldn’t leave anything behind and it misses areas and leaves things behind FREQUENTLY! Not to mention, it doesn’t matter how much I love things out of the way, if I leave it to clean overnight I always (and I do mean ALWAYS) wake up to a notification that it “ended the job stuck”. It’s like it only works when I’m awake and/or watching it because during those instances it NEVER gets stuck... like, I NEVER have to intervene with its cleaning when I’m awake or watching. Goodbye Roomba hello Shark! If I’m going to be disappointed in a robot’s cleaning capabilities, it makes more sense to save $400 in the process!

First I would to say how much I really appreciate you doing these tests. It does help to try and make an informed decision. I read the comments below as well, and one that stands out is from Jack Turner. Thanks Jack for putting that info out. I think it is important to know if Shark is going to have the "no-go lines" as a part of their app. To me that is pretty important, as I had a Roomba vacuum (until it found a freshly pile of dog poop my yorkie decided to leave for me in our living room, and then spread it every where around the house) always had a problem of running over an extension cord I had up against the wall for a table lamp, etc. By the way, I kept the dog (barely), but had to get rid of the Roomba :). So now I need a new one. I have learned that I the ones that will clean in a straight line are the way to go, but I also think it's important to be able to control the robot vacuum to go here, but not here, and if I can get this thing to miss my extension cords, then I'm sold. Such a pain.. Again, thanks for all the work you put in these. I'm a little worried that you may be a little on the Shark side since you were paid for it. Cool of you to admit it though. I will continue to watch you stuff. Great job!

@@VacuumWars I find myself still having to figure out really which one of these robot vacuums are the best out there. I did try purchasing a "eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 15C MAX" from Amazon, but had a few problems with it (hair got caught in the rollers which were the bristle brushes, the side brushes that get stuff from edges or corners seem to bend, and stay that way within 3-4 cleanings, it was too thin if there is such a thing, it continued to get stuck under our coffee table that was on top of a throw run in our living area). Amazon was really nice and allowed me to return the unit for a full refund, so I do want to purchase my new unit from these guys just due to the way they have treated me on my orders with them. There are so many of them that I easily get confused on which unit is really the best out there. Do you have a chart that we can look at that list all of the units out in the market and what it can do (like a check list)? I didn't think I wanted the self clean out unit, but I think you have sold me on it. ha ha. I want great suction, and I want to be able to use my smart phone to tell use the "no-go lines, etc). No bristles for the rollers. They are terrible. I keep thinking I would want two of the edge/corner pick up brushes, but I don't want them to stay bent so quickly where I feel they are not doing the job they should be doing. A lot to ask I know... Thanks.

Love your review! How is the Shark IQ R101AE you reviewed different from the "Shark IQ Robot Self-Empty XL RV1001AE"? I looked online but all I could find is that the RV1001AE is a model number of the "R100". but the R100 doesn't have the self-empty bin and the RV1001 does. I was going to get a Roomba i7 but the power and suction and "crevasses" tests you did made the r7 look anemic. So, I chose the Shark 1001AE for Prime Day and hope I love it. Other reviewers said it got stuck a lot and had other problems.

Roomba are a lot like Dyson with handvacs. If you buy the top model it is the best [atleast for a few months around it's launch], but you pay a premium for it. So like any premium eletronics ever. Of course a cheaper competitor will eventually undercut it, and force the top brand to go back to the drawing board and do that innovation that keeps them on top. As seen with the new Roomba S9 series.

I figured it was a mistake so I went to Bestbuy and they matched the price. The good thing is they have them in stock. So I bought it, took it home. My wife loves it. It is a game changer. We have two dogs and one sheds. This get all the hair and dirt. We have not had to dust in the house since using the Roomba i7+. Our home never gets as dirty as these test... Can you say biased review? Also, you may need to account for robot learning. My S9+ took this long to complete the training run: 53 mins. It took 53, 58, 56, 48, and 46 mins to conduct subsequent cleaning runs in this exact order. I only run my Roomba twice a week. I removed the divider on the smart app between my living room and a long hallway that leads to my front door. I wanted the Roomba to clean the hallway length wise as it cleaned the living room. Not to mention it would make cleaning the hallway and living room as one room faster. It worked because of the 46 min cleaning run today. By the way, I leave my lights off.

It also goes over my anti fatigue mats. Idk if there all this way but sharks tires have my vote. Maybe it’s a given and they all Do but I love how mine goes over the thick divider we have and that it goes over the bathroom rugs without problem unless it’s on the thin lightweight side of course. I have a large house and have been using vacuum robots of all price categories for years. my summary up to know: we need also long term testing. They all start off great, but on the long run the replacement costs for brushes and filter are a huge factor. Also cleaning the robots is an issue. They seam to loose sucking power over time. Hard to believe but my favourite is Mikita robopro. Large bin, easy to maintain and very effective for large rooms. But simple technologie and gets stuck very often. I hope that this new generation of self emptying robots will be a big move forward in long term usage as well.

While I have not owned the other two I'd stay away from the iRobot line if you have anything more than low pile carpet.

@BriannaMovingMountains
@BriannaMovingMountains 3 года назад
I purchased a Shark iq self empty and was really excited about it as I have an old lower model Roomba that lasted only about 6 months before the side sweeper stopped spinning correctly and it doesn't hardly pick up anything now. I also had to empty its small dirt container often as I have pets and live on a farm where dirt gets tracked in daily. I was happy with how the Roomba used to clean though. My Sharq was higher priced than the older model Roomba and has a bunch of new improved "smart" features, so I thought it would be better than the old Roomba. I'm sending it back. The wifi hasn't truly worked for the couple weeks I've had it. It will connect to the app, I set a schedule and the vacuum made a sound like the schedule was synced, but it has yet to actually run on schedule. I always have to turn it on manually. After it was momentarily connected to the app through wifi the wifi on the robot just turned off. Whenever I try to reconnect, it will show the vacuum on the app, but says there's a connecting error, or other times the wifi on the vacuum will just turn off right after I turn it on. So basically I haven't been able to use any of the "smart" features on the app side of the vacuum and have always run it manually. I do like how it goes back and forth in straight lines rather than sporadic like the old Roomba, although the Roomba did seem to make enough passes to eventually cover the whole floor. The Shark, even with going back and forth, still misses stuff. The map is pretty far off from the actual floorplan it's supposed to be cleaning. I'm unable to delete the map to have it try again because the wifi won't stay connected. When it goes in my kitchen, it starts to run straight along under the front of my cabinets. I look down and see a few cheerios and dirt from my kiddos under the edge of the counters and think it will clean it up. What it actually does is start out running straight along the counter and gradually move away at a very slight angle that eventually becomes about 6+inches away from my counters so that a small strip in front of the counters, that gradually widens, never gets vacuumed. I left the cheerios down there for a few days to check everyday after it runs through the kitchen to see if it would ever learn that area and clean it... but after a few days of staring at those cheerios I finally just swept it up, realizing that the vacuum just doesn't want to follow a straight line along my counters for some reason. Most of the time it can find it's dock just fine. There's been a few times that it had something stuck under it, a hair barrette, e.t.c and after clearing the obstruction it couldn't find its way back. I do love the self empty option and that it goes back empties, and then goes back to work where it left off...but I'm not entirely excited with the fact that half the features of the vacuum (wifi, app, scheduling, mapping) aren't usable at the price of the vacuum. It's $500 new, I paid $320 for an awesome Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal, but a vacuum whether it's $320 or $500, that's a lot of money and I'd expect it to operate as advertised. After reading more reviews recently, I've found wifi issues are a huge problem with this vacuum.

Update: I was sent a return packing slip and instructions and was planning on heading to town to return my vacuum. A couple days after I recieved my return instructions, etc, I had turned it on to see if it might maybe work better. The wifi light was on! Which is totally new for me to see it actually running, vacuuming my house with that light on. Everytime I've tried to turn it on, it doesn't stay on, but now it was. So I went on the app and saw options pop up that I'd never seen before like adjust the power of the vacuum. I tried to turn it up and I heard the vacuum get louder! I was super excited. I saw a pause button and pushed it, then nothing. It said it couldn't connect with the vacuum, although it was in the same area as when it was just connected to it. So I thought it wasn't working again. Now everyday it seems to be working the majority of the time, wifi light on and I can start it and pause it from the app... except it had yet to start on schedule by itself... until today, when I heard it going around 630 am although the schedule is set for 8am.🤔

Thank You for Vacuum Wars! I'm still on the fence about getting the Shark IQ for one reason only...Siberian Husky Fur! I use to go through a vacuum once a year until I purchased a Dyson & then I kept that for nearly 10 years! I then purchased an upright Shark due to a recommendation & again I was pleased! My question is, will the Shark IQ consistently keep my floors clean of Husky fur without risk of crapping out due to workload & fur entanglement in its brushes? I've contemplated keeping my upright for carpeted rooms & getting another robot model with no brushes featured from Vacuum Wars for the hard floor rooms but it just seems a bit silly. I would love to cut vacuuming out of my life since having Huskies & two daughters has practically made me a slave to the household chore, vacuuming practically every day during certain times of the year! Get the i7+ that’s on sale right now at amazon for $699. I have a RoboRock S4 that does a terrific job with the exception of not having a dustbin sensor to alert when it’s full. So it keeps cleaning, best it can, with a full dustbin. I’ve been using it for about a week now and so far, the dustbin is completely full after every run. It’s presently on its 7th run in 6 days right now. Having a Chocolate Lab and a cat keeps it busy trying to keep up with all the shedding. So I have an i7+ coming in that will hopefully be able to keep up with that via the self-emptying feature. I’ll move the S4 upstairs where the pets spend little time. @vacuum wars, do any of the robovacs *without* the self-empty feature have a dustbin sensor to alert when the dustbin is full? I'd be interested to know more about the filtration system on all of these. The iRobot vacuums are great and we're thinking of getting one but the "captures 99% of particles as small as 10 microns" though great doesn' compare to our HEPA vacuum that captures 99.9% particles as small as .3 microns so that's a huge difference and one of the reasons I've been hesitating since we live in an old house with lead paint so there's going to be some lead paint dust until we can deal with that.

I'm subscribed to your channel, however I never received notification of this. My experience was a little different. I did post this on your other video, but I wasn't sure if you would see it or not. I just picked up the 101AE on Saturday, at BJ's on sale for $400. Google home lynx fine, however Amazon app keeps getting a bad gateway message. also after running the first day, it started complaining about dirty sensors and the vacuum getting stuck at the edge of a stairway. it is my opinion that the dustbin is too small, even though it will suck it up into the larger container. it was unable to suck out at least half of the debris in the small bin of the vacuum. It had to make two or three stops back at the base to empty out the dirt been, even though I have not that much space upstairs. it also had trouble docking, it seems of it got mad that I moved a little table around and it kept trying to go through it. Although it has two side brushes, I find that the roller with is a little disappointing. Although my Neato XV21 has its issues, I think it does a better job. I've never had to replace the Neato filter, as I just give it a quick vacuum. the shark has so many filters, I'm worried about how expensive it's going to be to maintain after a while. I also found it annoying that I would set the vacuum level from normal to boost, but it would not keep the setting. I would have to keep changing it during every vacuum. That being said, on the normal suction setting, battery life was poor. I doubt I will keep it.

shark probably sent him a "better" vacuum cleaner than what they usually sell so that he would give them better coverage. Given that he has roasted vacuum cleaners that he got paid to help with, i doubt that he had much bias.

One other test I'd like to see is how well they can travel over transition strips. I have a couple in my house from hardwood to tile or carpet and I'm concerned they wont be able to go over them.

Travis Dunlap My Shark (the exact self-cleaning one shown in this video) transitions easily between tile floors and all of my rugs. It even runs the line between the rug and the floor to get all the crumbs and whatnot that accumulate there. Perhaps if you had a really thick shag rug it may not work, but it’s working for all my rugs here!

Nothing beats my upright Hoover that costs only $90. I do have robots but I use my upright every month to make sure that its actually clean.
