SAF ran a tight ship and sadly the new generation of players didn't experience that, so when they got similar managers like LVG, Mourinho etc there were massive problems and clashes between the players and managers, the players started thinking they were bigger than the club and this lack of discipline and poor attitude is what caused them to fall from grace. When SAF was in charge no one was bigger than the club or manager. Everyone fell in line.

Mentality is just as important as physical talent.

Although Bayerns fall was never even close to that of United, even at a club of the caliber of Bayern the story went similar. Robben, Ribery, Rafinha, Alaba, Boateng, Thiago and Martinez all retired or left the club around 2019/20 and you instantly felt a drop in quality from the 2021 season onwards. The only ones left are Neuer & Muller with some generation overlapping players like Coman and Kimmich but it´s not the same kind of football Bayern fans were used to from the 2010´s era.
