we don't have e scooters, but my college got some lime pedal bikes this last semester and they're pretty handy, but also abnoxious with people leaving them in the middle of walkways or often you'll find when people to park and line them up neatly someone just dominos them all. Kind of expensive though if students didn't get half off

These things are almost never found here. There are bicycles tho. I find them lying in bushes occasionally.

There was a news article going around last week, the companies that make those scooters keep running into problems because people who are sick of seeing them all over sidewalks keep picking them up and chucking them into rivers and ponds.

For everyone that mentions South Park. This is from a podcast in August, South Park ep came out in October.

When I was is Salt Lake City the first thing I did with those scooters was find the top speed, I got it to 20 mph.

We just got them in Brisbane, Australia (Sydney too) on a trial basis, but after a few of those App-based Share Bike schemes went belly up this might not end well. There starting to be complaints to ban them, mainly cause people get on them in their lunch hour and hurt themselves like morons or worse some have tried to ride them in traffic. There are already reports of them being thrown in weird places in anger too... pulled out of the river, hanging off the bridge, in trees. Probably about a couple of weeks before the compensation lawyers start lining up (Heard two major law firms are circling) and the police may come out and start cracking down and issuing fines for misuse.

This showed up like 3 weeks into my college semester this September and people used them all the time. Now that it’s cold and snowy people are just using the bus now

We had Bird Scooters where I live. They were banned by the city because people kept leaving them in front of driveways, in the middle of side walks, and in front of building entrances. The last straw was three of them were parked in front of an ambulance entrance at a hospital. I'm glad they're gone because we (people) don't have enough common sense for public transportation like that, yet.

I saw these in Minneapolis and wonder why someone will leave them in there without worrying someone will steal

I remember when the bicycle versions of these appeared outside areas around Boston. A lot of people didn't like them because they began covering areas.

as someone whos visited downtown austin a lot, i can reaffirm for no reason that these scooters are freaking everywhere

I'm so glad Geoff talked about these on the Podcast so when South Park did an episode on them, I understood it.

I know the actual podcast came out first but the scene in this RTAA where Gavin throws all the scooters over the cliff basically mirrors the exact same event that happened with the scooters in South Park.

They started doing that here, but with e-bikes..... it's pretty great.... I got on one the first week before they realized the bikes were way too powerful for a normal weight class... I hit 45 mph in my first 5 minutes..... that thing got some miles that day

In my city people got so upset about the bikes and scooters lying around. that a bunch of guys got in trucks loaded them up with all the bikes and scooters they could find and then dumped them off of the cliffs into the ocean

As a college student in Oklahoma, these things are lifesavers. They turn a 40 minute walk into a 5 minute ride and it only costs about $2

I live on a college campus, and since I don't have a car, these scooters are a real life saver.

these things are a real pain by my university! a friend of mine in an electric wheelchair is constantly having to move them out of the ramps on the sidewalks

Don't do the free ride thing! it takes $10-$30 out of your account to put in the wallet in the app and then still charges you the starting fee for the ride. it just doesn't charge you the time up to like the first 20 min of riding.

In Australia they had yellow bikes that were a communal service type like those scooters. 2000 of them were thrown in the river.

You think that that's bad? SMH Look up bicycle rentals in Japan. It's literally a HUGE issue. No one can even use the bicycle lane because there our huge mounds of rental bikes cluttering them, and spilling into the car lanes.

I was driving in the Mueller area, nearby RT, and I saw at least thirty people riding those electric scooters. There are lots of shopping centers with some nice neighborhoods surrounding them. I don't know if those people lived nearby and used those scooters regularly. How much does it cost to use one? I live just outside of Austin, where we don't have the hippy stuff they do.

they finally made their way to el Paso a couple months ago. they're all over downtown and UTEP and always see people using them. not too annoying but just the people who try to take THEM everywhere they shouldn't be

So funny story, during RTX my girl and I were getting burgers and saw someone pull up in the scooters and go inside the place we were at. About 5 minutes later a beat up pick up truck rolled up and threw both scooters into the back (my girl saw this and made a face) then the people that came up on them came back to their shock of the scooters missing. I'd like to think my girl witnessed a heist that day.

I moved from the countryside to the city. And it is weird to see grownups riding these type of scooters. Like what?! That's a children's toy!

On my way to a mechanic on one road there are like half a dozen stop lights with scooters just sitting there. On residential roads too with nothing remotely interesting even in scooting distance. What is even the point of these things?

Does anyone remember when Burnie was talking about Austin have highways that go down to one lane? Well I was going to visit family who lives in Austin and... it took forever for us to get there and by the time we got there Klee couldn’t stay long because of the traffic from the one lane highways
