My dentist gave me those two options, but I don't have the expertise to make that decision. All I know is that my tooth is infected all the way to the root and is causing immense pain. I don't see why I'd want to keep a tooth that is infected. It seems like getting it extracted would prevent any future infection. What I do know is that when the dentist told me my options, he seemed more confident about extraction versus a root canal.
I haven’t needed one yet in life. My cleaning is tomorrow so you never know. However, my husband had two failed root canals. One got loose and the dentist didn’t even see it. He woke up and his face was red and puffy. He had an emergency removal and got an implant. It was expensive but worth it. He wants the other root canal removed and go the same implant route next year. I think if I am told to get one that I would do the same thing.
Thank you! I have had root canal treatment 3 times in the same tooth and now have an infection and bone loss. Wanting to save the tooth I've researched the internet and called my endodontist, was told by his assistant that said extraction was necessary because doctor wouldn't re-treat a 3rd time but not why. You have explained the " Why" so now I can accept my fate of losing my molar.
I've had 8 root canals. One just like yours, a 1" hole in my nasal cavity. Now I'm informed. The remaining 4 have slight infections. This Doctor strictly fact driven. As you said now I know my fate. All my root canals are coming out!
@@carlbernngl Not yet Carl. We are moving half way around the world...I'm quite busy. My first concern is the hole in my nasal cavity. I have to wait 3 months and then I have to see Ear, Nose, Throat Doctor. After that...I guess bone grafts first.
I hope you can help me Dr. Gorbatov. I had a root canal & crown 25yrs on tooth 7. Now it needs to be extracted. Since Covid started, I'm a little short in cash & no insurance to get an implant. What is the downside if I only get the tooth extracted without the stud/bone ( I think it's called bone graft?) vs extract the tooth, insert the stud/bone, so I don't have to rush to get the implant asap?
