Don't know what part of the country you're in but Angel Trumpets won't freeze back to the ground if they are provided some winter protection. I'm in Northern California and we had more frost and freezing nights than usual this past winter. My outdoor trumpet was still blooming in January and in bloom Christmas week when we were having nights in the 20s and low 30s. I simply wrapped it in incandescent mini Christmas lights and used a beach umbrella to cover it with old bed sheets when it got into the 20s at night. Granted our average daytime highs in the winter are above 55 most days but it's those winter lows that can freeze it back to the ground. I think it helped it grow a thicker trunk too.

yea, ours lasted up to January, it froze back when it got down to 17.

Wow that’s amazing…love all ur plants & videos! Esp the Angel’s Trumpet! I’ve bin wanting one for a few years after seeing one in a nearby neighborhood, (large, like a tree). Now I’m freaking out…I finally ordered one online (I should be excited, spent a good bit of yesterday researching pots, soil types & food as needed. So, website said 3” (pot) for size wise lol we all kno nothing ever looks like the online picture😒& wasn’t expecting a “pot” BUT wat I got is smaller that prob most (or all) of your cuttings😭 (For 3”, I’d expected 3 shoots) & I paid $20 🌱 (+$10 shipping/tax🙄) don’t kno whether to laugh or cry😂😭 for (1) scrawny 🌱😢 Anyway, I’m so glad to have found ur videos… & about the freaking out… I don’t want to overwinter it (newbie w/ that sorry, hope it’s correct term) as I don’t have an attic or garage; dark place. etc. I live in a condo in coastal South Carolina (zone 8B) so planned on container growing it. It appears healthy, is 12” tall 🙄😒w/2 leaves at top & maybe about 6 small & sprouting out leaves on the upper 1/2 of the plant. It came it a crinkle plastic wrapped bag. I’m know it needs replanted but at this stage, what size pot? Have no clue😫 (I have a 9x11 plastic pot bc i read that was best container-wise) haha but wow is that like way to big?🤣 (lol ya I’m a bit disappointed but need to do my best to make her grow!). I have regular old potting soil here, so, would you mind terribly if I ask for advice…I 💯trust you! I’m at a total loss moving forward from here as this was totally NOT wat I expected/planned for. Should I get a certain kind of potting soil? What size pot should I put it in…don’t want to keep repotting it, but fear that one is too large for now. I see they need well drained soil & full sun… oh & humidity🥵 hah that’s definitely no problem here spring & summer heh. Now, since it’s so tiny & not wanting to overwinter it, idk IF I should plan on leaving it outside (& bring in if we have frost, or go below (?) temperature, which is helpful to me using a container whichever way I need to go with. Package says “dormant initiative insert” + “planting time notice-spring” Yikes had I known all this ida waited til Spring … (er, um, nah maybe I wouldn’t have waited🤨bc I’ve wanted the plant so bad for so long, I gotta be honest lol) But hopefully in the spring I can feel confident enough to buy another (elsewhere lol, not sold locally😟) Well I apologize for taking up 1/2 of your day🥺I’m at my wits end & if you could take a minute to offer any assistance I desperately need it & would be so very appreciative (plus I’m a “pay-it-forward” type of person…not on this subject, not yet, but whatever I can😎) I’d be so grateful! Also I’m in awe of the colors you have & now the “doubles” how exciting. ㎰ t/y for the “tip” about them opening initially as yellow, bc lmao I prob woulda lost it (if it ever blooms🙏🏻bc I ordered PINK! 🤣🤣🤣oh I can see me now…haha…certainly appreciate that bit of advice😆 thank you kindly, I hope you can maybe find a minute to answer me! Pss-you really should go into business…you’ve certainly got “the touch”🏆and I’ve seen several requests “do you sell”!🙌🏻 I’ve thought about looking for fig plant (don’t care for figs but they’re beautiful plants/trees!) Again, thanks in advance for your videos & your time! Gypsy 👱🏻‍♀️

Wow! Congrats on winning the longest comment I've ever gotten award LoL! 🏆Where did you find your scrawny plant from, I'd like to know. The good news is that your plant will probably grow just fine. Angel Trumpet is one of the easiest plants to grow and propagate from cuttings. If you really want to see some beautiful blooms and an opportunity to get your hands on some very very rare varieties check out "Brugmansia USA - Brugmansia , Iochroma & Datura only" on Facebook. I actually have another Angel Trumpet video in the making and should be released in a week or so. So, what would I do with a plant your size? I would grow it to a nice 3 gallon pot during the winter, bring it inside and put it in a sunny window. The next year I would plant it in the ground, don't worry about it getting killed back during the winter, they come back just fine. Right before a heavy frost I'll go around and make cuttings of all my angel trumpets to root and sell next year. BTW, did your plant have a variety name or was it labels as just pink? As far as fertilizer, Angel trumpets are heavy feeders. I probably wouldn't feed them but one or two times during the winter but during the summer you can feed them as often as once a week. For the first part of summer I would use standard Miracle Gro or if you want to go organic you can use an organic equivalent. But around July I would switch to a bloom fertilizer like Miracle Grow Bloom Booster. If you wanted to keep it permanently in a pot I would up pot from the 3 gallon pot into some large that you can still move around. My Trumpet has a nice flush of blooms right now and my whole yard smells sooo good right now. They only smell in the evening hours. You're going to love it!

Hey, hahaha that’s too funny…longest comment ever, yep it’s a thing of mine, I don’t kno wen to shut up🤣🤣🤣The girls I used to supervise at work, actually *admitted* to me😳 that they *didn’t read my text msgs* (bc they were so long)🤦🏼‍♀️😂Lucky 4 them…they were also my friends…I wasn’t even mad over it + got a good laugh from it lol I totally understood, they’re right😆 Anyway, you are so very very kind, I can’t thank you enough for ur help. Sooo…where to start hahaha I ordered it from (idk IF it’s gonna let me attach links here, but ima try & if don’t work, I’ll break it dahn w/spaces so you can see (esp wat I was looking at compares to received, like I said, I never expect to receive an order, no matter wat it is, to look like it’s shown online. But c’mon, imo, this one was way off - u need a lol, I’m gonna also try to send u a pic of the actual (whatever) that I received…I saved it to my Google drive so it should let me “share” the link to the lol picture (again, IF it won’t allow, I’ll break it dahn w/spaces, u put it together & should be able to get to it🤣🤣🤣omG! The Variety, yes, I was trying to find that…all it said was “ANGEL’s TRUMPET PINK, Brugmansias” I bought it from : www.gurneys.com/product/pink-angel-trumpet#&gid=1&pid=1 Here’s wat it looks like : drive.google.com/file/d/1ew1TA2Aie4UqrT3-D5Au4W9tMp-y_C87/view?usp=drivesdk

Like I said, I didn’t expect something like their picture …BUT…😒 like get outta here!😭😂😭 You make it look so simple! (& I trust you, that it is as simple as you showed/explained…as long as ya have uh, *something* to start with!!! Lol I doNOT. & why I decided not to overwinter it, I was having to grow it in a pot anyway, so I’m really hoping it can grow indoors til Spring. I’ll be lucky, if by spring, it looks like one of your cuttings🤣even your smallest, I believe is bigger than this scrawny s/h¡t🤭4real! Thanks a million for the recommendations …I got a good potting soil & the pot I planned to use (prob v. close size-wise to wat you recommended) plus I read “plastic” pots are best. I couldn’t hammer out the holes in the bottom, as I read they like good drainage & perhaps a certain soil, hey, considering wat I’m starting with, I’m taking no chances at this point lol IdK how to tell “gallons” of a pot & since I already had a few here, I had to use a smaller one. Size is 8.6x8.6x6.75 & I’d guess 1.5-2 gallon (?) no idea but it looks *lost* in there😏🤣 & so, if all goes well I’ll repot in spring & I do need to grow in container bc I’m in a condo. I swear ya can’t trust the internet anymore as I read it takes 5 yrs to bloom😳🤯wat? wat the ??? Elsewhere, I saw 1 yr. Idk, the way it’s looking, I’m not gonna have blooms come spring👿😫😭altho at least, imo, it appears healthy, I hope you get to see the little scrawny bugger & see wat you think-? No blooms come spring/summer definitely a bummer. Mayb I can find a different website & find a healthy bloomer there. Oh & t/y for the info on the Facebook site, I don’t use FB but friends do, so I’ll have a look 4 sure. Good for you & making cuttings…IF you do decide to sell…you’ve got a customer right here!🙏🏻 I can’t believe how many colors you have, that’s awesum, & the doubles, wow I only recently found out about those…but only in White…now you’ve got them in other colors that’s so cool! I also read that if you have “several” varieties, & colors, (can’t remember if it matters where ya plant them, I’d think so, plus you’d need self-seeders (?) I guess, but it said YOU COULD GET LUCKY & CREATE A NEW “HYBRID” PLANT… Ya kno, I believe YOU can do IT! How sweet is that? Exciting!!! Ok, finally, I sincerely thank you a ton!!!🙏🏻👌🏻🤘🏻 & you think I’ll be ok w/it, thru winter, indoors, in a sunny spot, w/2 feedings- (& easy on the watering?) I brought it in last night, it was 46° this ㏂ & will be in mid to low 50’s for bout a week, unusually cool this early, I oughta jis keep her indoors starting now (?) yes? Thanx much once again, I’ll be looking forward to the video you said is upcoming! 👏🏻👏🏻 & I subbed to your channel! You Rock! t/y t/y t/y !!! 😊 Have a good evening! 🌱😁

I tried looking at the pic on google drive and requested access to the file. You can also check out www.brugmansia.us/gallery/galleries/ I joined this group 2 years ago and ordered my free seeds. The forum is good and you can find people selling all the varieties. Edna probably has the largest collection and who I get my cuttings from. Looking at the pic. from Gurney's, it looks like the Angel trumpet in the pic isn't pink. No telling what you will end up with. Can't go wrong no matter what variety they actually sent you. My mom has a flush of blooms on her plant right now that looks like the Gurneys pic. except her's is an orange like mine. She came over one day when I wasn't home and took a copy of every variety that I have lol. If you are going to overwinter in a pot, I'd leave it outside in full sun and move it back inside at night during risk of frost. Warm sun and soil will make for good growth. With the cooler temps mine are growing pretty good right now.

As always, probably won't need to say it but.. if you guys have animals or curious kids. Be really careful with the flowers as you can get a really bad trip. Both kids and animals are silly enough to put this stuff in their mouth. Try to clip low hanging trumpets and collect the ones that fell to avoid accidents. Same with devil trumpets which grows upwards instead of drooping like angels and is more dangerous.
