Root Rot is the cause of most of the plant ills. This vid will hopefully help one to figure out if they need to check roots and resituate their plant in leca. My mix on the plants is currently leca and pumice..but I will be adding/testing perlite in the mix for the finer roots...stay tuned!
🤗Let’s be friends🤗

🥣HOW I PREPARE MY LECA: I just rinse with cool water in a colander or bucket with holes
💦FIRST MONTH: Water only the leca…do not allow any water to sit in reservoir, once a week or when plant shows signs of dryness (NO NUTRIENTS)
AFTER a month to 6 weeks (when plants begin showing signs of expedient growth) NUTRIENT WATER: Add 1 teaspoon Dyna_Gro Foliage Pro to 1 gallon RO or fresh drinkable water.
*EVERY 3-6 MONTHS (I average once every six months for this): FLUSH THE LECA… • #leaching #houseplants...

Rachel, I have had great success with three large ZZ plants. All three have three or four new stalks. Here is how I had sucess....I cleaned off all soil, placed ZZ stalks into DRY leca. Two days later I used a spray bottle to spritz the top of the leca (about 15 spritz). Waited seven days and spritzed the top leca again. I checked roots after a couple weeks and removed all dead material. It has been three months now and they have developed beautiful new roots. I haven't left water in water reservoir yet because I am scared of rot. Instead, I just spritz them every week.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I am so glad you are having root rot. I have been watching semi hydro videos like crazy, hoping that someone talks about root rot and all I've got is "no, root rot doesn't happen in semi hydro" so I have started to wonder what am I doing wrong if no one else is getting root rot and I am seem to have it a lot, not only on new converted plants but on older ones as well. And I am so happy you made this video because it makes so much sense to me. As you mentioned every plant has it's water requirements and the line between getting it right or wrong is very thin. Like I have two begonias maculata, I transferred them at the same time, same technique and one loved it immediately, whilst the other one rooted for no reason and die. So now I have only one, but I have also noticed that if I leave the roots get to the bottom and don't repot they start rotting. Like I have a spider plant that loves having wet feet if I let it go dry all leaves turn black, on the other hand, if I constantly top up the water reservoir on my philodendrons without letting them go dry they rot and with succulents is very easy to under or over water. OMG! Overall I feel your pain and thank you so much for sharing I definitely got some good information and the reassurance that I am not alone with root rot on semi hydro.

Thank you so much for this!, yes definitely! they start getting root rot the day you put them into LECA it’s just a matter of how much rot versus how many new roots ...I can get away with never checking the roots, but lately I’ve recognized that I HAVE to take out and clean off the roots in order for the plant to really thrive and perform to full potential

Just subscribed. This has been the most helpful video. Was trying to figure out why I kept getting root rot. I was doing the H2O2 and letting them dry; but I did not know to put back in dry leca. Everyone else was saying put in the water reserve. Will definitely start doing this and trying your method.

I transferred my zz 6 weeks ago, and i still didn't water it and his fine. And when i will water him it will be just a little bit, from the bottom. I think that will work well...🤞. Lovely to see you again😘

Your video is super helpfully. My zz plant and my spider plant aren't doing so well with leca. I'll try your technique! Hopefully it works😁

Very helpful. Especially the 10 day timeline. It gives the rest of us a starting point.

Yay! Someone quite experienced gave me this guideline for my aloe plants...but they used 7 days...which I felt was too short for my environment...

I agree. Everyone's timeline is going to be a bit different. I live in a warm dry environment. Leca dries out fairly fast for me. Someone who lives in a humid environment will have their leca dry out much slower.
