Thank you so much for this video. I had branches hanging over my second story roof and squirrels were jumping on to roof. I was about to hire a tree trimmer company as I was afraid of those limbs dropping onto my new roof. I bought a rope saw and was able to safely cut away those limbs. This saved me several hundred dollars.
I am still grinning that it was YOU who had the nice pictorial of actual usage right when I needed it! Going to share with the hubby and we can get right to working those branches. Thx for the video. I should say all all the videos!
Thank you! Our home owners insurance went up by 20%. So we switched companies.... the new company wouldn't insure our home until our branches were cut.... I'm going to buy one today... Thanks, you saved us a ton of money... We just didn't have money for a tree trimming serivce..
I saw one of those at Harbor Freight a year or so ago. Wish i had bought it when i saw it, because now the quit stocking it. But not is all lost, I have a chainsaw chain with one broken tooth in it so I replaced it. So now I will make my own from the old chain. Many videos show guys binding up the chain because they didn't use common sense and tried to muscle it through and didn't use gravity properly. Folks should use a chainsaw for a while before they use these, there are ways you cut so the chain doesn't lockup. 20ft in the air is not where you want to learn these lessons. You did a great job, now I will start building my own. Glad I watched all those videos on this. Didn't think to sharpen both sides of the teeth so it would cut both directions. 👍😎
Nice to see a lady using the saw. I ordered one yesterday, but a lady neighbor discouraging me saying will take too much muscle power. I can't wait to use it. My neighbor's trees along the property line a nuisance. Happy if can do it safely and notvhave to pay tree cutters..
This looks really easy to make with a chainsaw chain. I need this right now to limb down a tall 3 trunk locust that looks like it wants to fall on my house. I assume any chainsaw chain connected with a rope would do the job, besides the manual work involved. Much cheaper than a professional for sure, and I want to save as much of this beautiful tree with most of it's furns and shade beneath as possible.
I recommend you put some lard on the chain. The reason why is when the fat gets into the wood it will prevent it from getting stuck in the cut its making. If it does you will have a hard time getting it down.
I know of a judge, in a small town in Tennessee, who was cutting tree branches with a ladder, fell off, and is now in a wheelchair permanently, from a broken back. My husband scared me half to death after hurricane Katrina. He was climbing way up in trees with a chainsaw! Thankfully, he didn't get hurt. Ten years later, his health isn't as good, and we hire out what we can't reach safely. I hate that his health is bad, but am thankful he isn't climbing trees anymore. This is a great idea for removing out of reach limbs, and I have one of those little saws. Just need to attach some line to it, and we might save a few bucks. Thanks for the video!
These are good saws, they have been around for 40 years that I know of, I made one of them back in the early 70ies, You can cut limbs, as high as you can toss the weight, And you can try a 1lb teardrop fishing weight, shot from a slingshot, Use Nylon string tied to your rope. good luck.
I'm not sure of the brand but I bought it at Harbor Freight Tools. I know they sell them on their website and if you go to the store to buy one, it's not in the gardening tools area like you would assume, they are kept with the hand saws.
I found one at Academy Sports in the Camping Section. I haven't gotten it yet and wondered what happens when the chain blade is upside down. Why does your
Nice. I want to trim a branch off a tree beside my driveway, but it's at a point where I have to extend my ladder all the way ,so I might try your idea. ;)
Great video! Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Also I can relate. Everything works as planned until the day I want to show others! lol Also this is far better than a chainsaw and ladder = me breaking my neck!
in my profile pic this tree just got hit by lighting and leaning on two other trees if it goes through it will hit my house. how can I cut it down to avoid damage. question should I cut it mid way up and let it collapse into a v shape? size 60' by 2' wide
LOL...me too! I have a feeling a lot of husbands aren't too happy that we gals just learned that we don't need to have to hire a tree surgeon when high branches need trimming. I know I'm getting a a whole "ship-load" of excuses. This gal is DY NO MYTE!
I was saying to myself, - she's doing it the hard way, without handles!- Well, I just finished using mine. I came up one handle short. Probably got shuffled under the leaves. Your rope seems to be a round rope, mine came with a thin twisted nylon rope. Now I will need to fashion some handles.
LOL...you misunderstood my comment. HE was getting out of trimming the high branches because I was dumb enough to believe he could not do it from the ground. :)
You'd know the point of it if you were a non-millionaire homeowner with a yard full of trees in need of trimming. Our local tree surgeon thinks he's in the AMA.
That's a great tool, but you can't buy them here in Australia. You could rig one up from a real chainsaw blade I guess, but at the inflated prices for everything down under, I found it was better to get the job done with a cheap ass pole saw like this one: How to cut a tree branch without a ladder for $37: Bunnings Hortex Pole Saw Pruner Review Buying a real chainsaw blade would've easily cost the same down under. You Americans have it good with those large big box stores, and Amazon actually shipping things other than books to you!
