I like it when it´s a teacher who does it simple, direct and down to earth. These arrogant teachers who wants their students/audience to feel inferior and themselves superior are terrible.
Thank you from Italy! I'm coming from a background of traditional kung fu but I've never learned the meteor hammer/rope dart. You are truly a source of inspiration!
1st of all...I don't want to be Rope Dart martial artist.... 2nd...I don't wanna be a fire dancer too 3rd....I'm just trying to be Gogo Yubari from kill bill and act so sassy and cool😳😳😳🤣🤣🤣
I will try this tomorrow. I know quite a few people who do this shot and it looks great. I've bee. Practicing the regular martial arts shot and it's quite challenging.
Thanks you so much for your tutorials.. I live in Canada and it's just not easy for me to find a coach or make it to the rope dart academy.. I am in awe of your rope skills
Another tutorial :D I was beginning to be afraid you had forgotten us lol! I just finally have started to be decent at the neck spins though so it was perfect timing for another one for me. Im a slow learner lol!
I'm gonna really work on this one. My biggest problem is I lose power when I kick, but I feel this is just a timing issue. I just learned the open knot knee shot and I'm now comfortable with it. Gotta go with the flow.....see what I just did there?😂😂
Damn, this is super frustrating. I can't seem to get the timing down - the dart usually just ends up wrapped around my foot and getting tangled as I do the kick. I've managed to do it a couple of times but mostly I'm still just a mess. The first part is easy, but the part where you bring your left foot around still eludes me.
I can do the foot shot all day....as long as my "target" is in front of me. But I am getting better at the reverse shot. I've discovered it's a question of rope tension and pivoting smoothly. Practice, practice, practice. Your videos have helped me tremendously! Thank you so much! Hope to catch you at Flow Fest in October here in Tx. Have you ever been to Houston? If you ever book something here, please let me know!😊
@@FlowMayhem yes you did! But you have to remind me where, hopefully close to Houston. I hope I can make it. I MIGHT be involved with a film in October, but that ain't solid yet(I'll get to play a mental patient😂😂). It would be awesome to finally meet you!
@@FlowMayhem I see it's outside Dallas. Might be a bit of a challenge, but we can certainly try. Maybe make a little road trip out of it. But if you book something closer to Austin or Houston let me know. I might know some venues open to what you do. You would be perfect to perform the Art Car Parade here.
Hey, I recently discovered rope dart and all your tutorials, they're fantastic! Thanks for all your hard work :) Regarding foot shots specifically, I have a couple of questions. Is it meant to feel like you're kicking the dart? I currently have them inconsistently and it happens so fast. When it does work, it feels less like the knee shot kind of snap launch and more like a half catch half kick. And secondly, are we aiming to catch the rope with the ball of the foot or towards the ankle? Thanks!
Hey! I actually made another tutorial on foot shots called “foot shots a closer look” and that video should answer some of these questions with visuals. The rope contacts the top of our foot, (not the dart itself) and you kick the rope, not the dart. Email me if you are still stuck! flowmayhem@gmail.com
that used to happen to me. I feel like it was often either because I was kicking the dart before pulling it in front of me. Are you doing the regular one or the one where you pivot 180 degrees?
@@victoriamoore5497 for sure. yeah then I say break down the step where you pull dart dart in front of you with your foot, and make sure you are extending your leg AFTER you can see that it is in front of you. I also notice that sometimes people try to do all the steps at once without doing them slowly, and one by one a couple of times. slowing down the process will show you why your dart is getting caught.
Thank you! I’ll try that ❤️ I’ve just recently start rope darting and I’m obsessed with it. I’ve been a martial artist for years but this feels like a whole new ballgame
Okay, so I started trying it really slowly and I think what I’m doing is instead of bringing my foot back to the rope dart, I think I’m bringing the rope dart back to my foot
Thanks for this tutorial!! One thing I've been struggling with that you might be able to shed some light on is the shot not coming out clean due to what I think is either the rope not being taught enough or something I'm not doing with my lead hand - can you elaborate on what you're doing with each hand and how taught you're making it/positions as your doing the shot that might help? I first started catching it with my foot closer to the dart, but when viewing the Shaolin film I noticed he was hooking it as you are (a little further up - which also makes sense with fire!) and once I started doing that is when I was having issues properly grabbing it with my foot and with the accuracy of the shot. Thanks! (Let me know if you need me to clarify any of this). I have footage as well I could send.
I have a question about your grip switch but I don’t know if it’s more appropriate for the Patreon page. It looks like, after catching the leash underhanded and when you are transitioning to an overhand grip (1:43 - 1:55) it looks like you are doing two different transitions... one where the leash ends up under your wrist and the second one *over* your wrist. I think I understand and can do the second, but how are you getting the underhand to overhand grip with the leash UNDER your wrist? By the by, fantastic videos. I have been inspired by your demos and instructionals to pick up rope dart and am enjoying it quite a lot. Thank you! :)
Praxx Gray yes! Generally, right before I toss the rope under my leg, I have an underhand grip. When I catch the rope after I have tossed it, I catch it with an overhead grip! It’s not necessary to do this, but I do prefer it. I didn’t want to over define how people should do it, but I’m glad you noticed that subtle change!
Flow Mayhem, thanks! Without any formal trainer or instructor, it’s become very important to notice the small physical details in repeated viewings. Since there isn’t anyone to correct my form, I have to do it myself. :D The whole 1/4 speed playback is incredibly handy.
I noticed as well. I studied and practiced martial arts and this particular weapon as a young kid and now at 34 my body size is wayyyyy different which means my timing and rope length is different...(lots of bruises in the beginning LOL) Much harder this time around but actually more spiritual and enjoyable at this stage in my life. Thank you so much for your videos and keep on darting. You're inner light burns way brighter than your meteor hammers' fire ever will.
if u wanna send me a video, I can try to troubleshoot it :) sometimes its just more practice though. make sure you bring it in front first and then kick, if its getting tangled
@@FlowMayhem I'm starting to get better at it. For me it really is just a matter of working more on my timing. I'm just so surprised that such a simple looking move can be as tricky. But I really want to assimilate it to my form,so it's worth the time to put in. Thank you so much for the knowledge I have acquired from your videos! Always looking forward to see what you do next! Keep 'em coming!😎
Vella Ropedart yes that’s a great attitude. Practice is really the only thing that ever works for me in the end haha :) so glad you are getting a lot out of it!!! It really means a lot that to let me know
@@FlowMayhem I believe in giving credit where it is due☺. I'm always in a constant state of learning,as we all should be. As soon as I get my new form together I'll send you a video.
Luiz G. Lopez yeah that used to happen to me all the time. I think if you hook the dart closer to the dart head, there won’t be enough rope for it to get tangled. When I hook it, my foot is almost touching the dart head. It’s also super important to hook it slowly, to make sure that the rope ends up on the correct part of our foot. So often people rush that step and end up getting frustrated, but I say the slower the better until it feels comfortable!
Hmm. Maybe slow it down? Try to do everything as slowly as possible and then maybe you will find what’s tangling it. Also specifically when you pull it forward with your foot right before you kick, make sure it’s not wrapping around anything
