the first 2 hours at disneyland are HUGE. the peter pan rope drop is hella fun to watch though. i was at the front of the line a few weeks ago and got lapped and almost trampled by the masses. 😂 i've talked to a few CM's in fantasyland about that and they've said that they've seen their lives flash before their eyes at times. it's pretty crazy! lol

Love your videos, but my rope drop strategy was the opposite of yours. I hit all of the non LL attractions I could at rope drop before the crowds came and used Lightning Lanes later for the big attractions. It worked great! I had short waits for everything I went on. I think your strategy is good if you don’t care about Fantasyland as much or are willing to go to Fantasyland late at night when the crowds start thinning out. But Fantasyland in the late morning and afternoon has long waits for almost everything and strollers everywhere.

You missed the point. His strategy is for people NOT paying for Genie+. That gets expensive for large families
@Praetorian8

Fantasyland attraction wait times are usually 15-35 minutes during the day (Peter Pan can get to 50). Meanwhile, the waits for the E-tickets are usually 60+. So the time savings by rope dropping E-tickets is much greater. I went on Saturday and did, Rise, Indy, BTMRR, Mansion, Splash, Pooh, and Space by 10:30. After that the rest of the day was a breeze because I could largely avoid the crowds trying to do E-tickets. Combining Genie+ basically allows you the ability to do the big attractions 2-3 times. It really depends on your goals though. If you have little kids, then it makes sense to rope drop Fantasyland.

David, you neglect to mention the upfront time cost. In order to get to the front of the rope, you have to be one of the first to the gate. In order to be first at the gate, you have to be on the first tram. In order to be on the first tram you have to be one of the first at the parking kiosk. So be at parking by 6:30 am and wait 30 minutes until it opens. Get to the gate at 7:10 and wait 20 minutes until it opens. Rush to the rope and wait another 25 minutes until drop. You have now spent one hour and twenty minutes before your first ride. The real benefit of spending that time is to avoid the massive crowds that saunter in around 11:00.

I don't need to rush the rope the moment I get in. There may be people in front of me, but not many. The ride lines are still walk-right-through with little to no waiting. When we rope drop, which is 99% of the time, we hit Alice first thing, followed by Toad, Snow White and Pinocchio. After that it gets a bit more flexible. Sometimes we go straight to the Haunted Mansion, sometimes we hit Indy, depending on the wait times. After that it’s whatever looks best. We rarely go to RoTR that early, since everyone runs there first. But if it’s between 55-75 minutes we’ll do it. One day we rope dropped and ran all across the park “Willy nilly”. We got on everyone of the big ticket rides (minus The Matterhorn) plus all of the Fantasyland rides before 12pm. After that it was lunch, and then casual re-rides of favorites. Rope drop is really the only way to go.

I think this is a good strategy for specific situations. If you don't have young kids, don't plan to get Genie+, and are going for one day, then this could be useful. As a vacationer, I obviously want to maximize my time in the parks, but I'll usually get multi-day parkhopper paired with Genie+ and prefer not to go through the stress of waking up early and rushing around all morning tiring myself out early in the day. To each their own though!

We did the Matterhorn after the fireworks, plus single rider twice. Lol! 😂

I realize I’m in the minority here, but you couldn’t pay me to get on any of those thrill rides. The drop on Pirates (WDW) is as “thrilling” as I get…. But I know there are others who might have a similar question, if not because they’re scaredy cats like me, maybe because of health concerns, (back issues, etc), or because they have tiny kids in tow that aren’t ready or tall enough for the “Mountains” and such…. So my question is, is there a video out there, (or can one be made), that explains rope-drop strategy leaving OUT all thrill rides? Like, should we go for Haunted Mansion first and then run over to Jungle Cruise, etc? I know someone mentioned that Fantasyland only has one ride that gets much above 30 min, (Peter Pan, which, if it’s a duplicate of WDW’s, I would probably just skip anyway, in favor of rides that are not at WDW, or are significantly different)… But I also know there are other attractions that DO get longer waits, (like the aforementioned Haunted Mansion). The reason I’m asking is that I have a chance to go to Disneyland for a *single* day, (work trip where I have just one day to myself), and I’ve never been. I grew up going to WDW more times than I can remember, and know it like the back of my hand, but I’ve always wanted to experience the OG, and I’ve finally got a chance, practically free for me, (aside from the entry ticket! Lol), but have a lot to cram into one day! (Not interested in Cal. Adventure, btw… just the OG Disneyland) Any thoughts?

Whenever we would rope drop, we use this strategy. Pre-covid we'd head over to DCA after doing all the big DL rides, around 10 or 11am, with fast passes (using max pass) for their biggest attractions and be able to get ALL big resort rides done by noon or 1pm. The inability to park hop until 1:00 has ruined that for us. We also add Haunted Mansion in the early morning mix as that is one of my favorites that I could ride all day long.

Given that there are around 28 gates at opening, you can only be ONE of the first in the park (Disneyland; fewer gates at DCA). Here is what I do to be the first at one of the gates. Get in line at Harbor security before 7:00. Lines are released to screening around 7:10-7:15; as soon as the first bus arrives from Toy Story parking. Try to get to screening first; I think there are 20-25 screening lines. Pray for a fast bag checker or bring no bag. Walk quickly to one of those 28 or so gates. Countdown will start right around 7:30 and you will probably be one of the first in the park.

Thank you for this question! It’s my first time at Disney next month. Staying across at a close hotel (to walk quickly in) and trying to see how early I have to wake up my partner to be one of the firsts in line…I’m not a morning person at all but man do I want to get there EARLY! While I know this is an impossible to respond to question…I appreciate the responses!

@@pks627 If screening doesn’t open until the first bus arrives from Toy Story, would being on the first bus from Toy Story be equal to being in line at Harbor security at 7:00?

Heyyy I saw you yesterday with my dad (He was in the wheelchair with the yellow safety vest) when you were getting off the omnibus bus. After a year of following you, we finally saw you in the park!! YAY!! We've been in the park at the same time but never had the pleasure of spotting you to say hi. :) We had some time left before we had to leave, but we decided to just leave instead of trying to squeeze anoth er ride in, and then we saw you, which just made our morning! :D We also kinda "roped" dropped yesterday !!! :D I went to Space Moutain after we rode in on the Monorail into Disneyland. it was a 28 min wait when I got in line at 8:11. I rode space mount on Thursday with my friend at 10:15am and it was a 30 min wait. When I saw the line after I stopped walking in the queue it was a little longer than when I waited on Thursday but I figured there wasn't going to be many LL passes going through so I figured it was going to be the same time I waited a few days earlier and I was right it was a little less than 30 mins! Always fun to see your videos and looking forward to enjoying what you have planned for future videos too!

Considering that I haven’t done Rise of the Resistance yet, I would personally have gone there first. But then again that puts me at risk having longer lines for other rides like Big Thunder, Space Mountain and Matterhorn. Not sure yet what to do

my family plans by the days we go, we’re doing DL for 3 days and ca for 2, so we usually knock out adventure land then make our way to frontier and the following day go to space or star wars land

Which would be a faster way to get to Space Mountain? Rope Drop Monorail into Tomorrowland, or ropedrop in the hub at the Tomorrowland entrance?

With 2 younger boys, I think we might have to still rope drop rise. If it’s still a long wait I’ll still have them in the line early in the day when they’re patient lol

You arrived at a prime time to get at the rope area for Peter Pan, true if closed it sucks, but Snow White is up across the way. Your choices are also great for the G+ LL users who want to experience those same attractions twice.

What time were you there? And can I get inside the park at 7am on a regular ticket? I thought 7am entrance was only for people who stay at one of the Disney hotels. My wife and I want to rope drop but she’s telling me that we won’t be able to enter until 8am. Is this true?

Love your videos! Your the best for Disneyland advice. If you haven't already, I would love to see you do a video for Disneyland like you did at DCA a few months back, when you did every ride before 2 pm after rope drop. I don't think you can finish every ride before 2 pm, but I would like to see if it is possible to get every ride in before close. Just follow Ron's formula! Once again your awesome!

It's ok. Most won't get to park early and some can't based on slower family members. Early birds will still get the perks of beating the masses.

I never rope drop tomorrowland anymore. Only good ride is space mountain. Much more efficient to rope drop Indiana then hit pirates, haunted, splash and big Thunder.

Went on a Saturday with my 7.5 yr old daughter. We spent the night at a Good Neighbor motel. Hung around downtown Disney for dinner, walked around, and then turned in. Got to rope drop on Saturday around 7:30 am and hit Peter Pan for 15 min wait. Then did almost every single ride in the park using combination of genie plus, single rider, and bought rise of resistance. We missed on Autopia, Dumbo, and Storybook canals because we bought souvenirs at Club 33 and needed to wait an hour for the member to meet us and also burned 2 hrs waiting for Main Street Electrical Parade. We went home after the Disneyland Forever Fireworks. So if you are willing to spend the money you can do literally almost everything even on busiest day. Remember we left over 3 hrs on the table and 10 pm to midnight is often as good as 8 am to 10 am for wait times. But I had a 7 yr old and after 14 hrs she was a little tired. 😉

How fast does the standby line fill up at rope drop for Rise of the Resistance? At $20 a pop for a LL, I think that would be top priority for everyone, and if you didn't run all the way there, you'd still end up in a long line. Am I wrong?

A lot of times if it isn't a SUPER crowded day you can get away with an hour wait or a little less for Rise. I mean, it is an hour but it does go by fast. Rope dropping can be just as long if you are not the first one there. Also, a good note is with all the entertainment coming back into the park it will relieve some stress on standby lines because there will be activities people wanna do... oh and also meet and greets. not saying that lines will drastically go down, but I have seen a difference in lines since some of the entertainment has come back into the park. I hope this helps. :)

The one day we rope dropped and we’re in a good position we headed for Indiana Jones it was a delayed opening and so was haunted mansion! Completely ruined our day/ strategy because by then you are so far from everything else. Nothing around. Especially with pirates being closed. We headed to rise through critter country as last resort hoping the line would be on our side. We were wrong. It was on the frontier land side! It was not a great start to our Very first visits as a family to Disneyland. We made the most of it and rode smugglers run then hit thunder mtn. Which then broke down as we were about to ride. Yep great start to our day! So everyone reading this expect your plan to go not as expected! Another day we rope dropped Peter Pan and only Waited maybe 20 mins. Then hit most of the fantasyland rides within the first 2 hours. That was a better day.
