Long rope rug made using a couple of retired climbing ropes. We made a custom pattern for it based on instructions from the Ashley Book of Knots.
Tightening things down after you lay out the rope completely through is the tricky part. Next time, we'll start from the inside with just one strand. ;)

That is just gorgeous! I think the key to make these types of rugs so beautiful is the skill of the weaver and the dedication and patience they show in the “tightening up” process. Job well done!

I'm super impressed! And the rug is gorgeous. I crochet and knit. But I also used to weave baskets. This is so therapeutic to watch. :)

Yes, it was quick, but I love the finished product. Kudos to you for figuring out how to make a rug from a book on knots!

Appreciate it! I'd love to make an explanatory video at some point. Essentially there are only certain numbers of loops one can use for both width and length to let the rope end up where it started. Otherwise, it will overlap/double certain strands before it returns to the start.

Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil. That's a great idea to make a rug Alex. But, it was confusing. We didn't see your cord movement. The camera should be focused on the frame to see your cord direction. You could have numbered the nails and shown the direction of the cords. We could not follow you. Please, do it again following these instructions... 1. Number the nails to follow the cord path. 2. Show it slow: the ins and outs of the rope. Slow down to show the cord direction. 3. When you tighten the ropes at the end, show which one should be pulled first. The idea is great. Make a small rug version using the wood frame. It may be easier to follow you. Don't forget to number each nail to show the direction of the rope. 4. Focus the camera on the frame and of your hand movements. That way we follow you. Thanks greatly. Hugs. ✊Please, do this video again. That will be great. 👏👏👏

Great Rug and Video! How long are the ropes?
@alexmandrila

These were 60m ropes. We only used about 2/3 of the blue rope after pulling out all the slack.

Why does the video move so fast?? Do you really think we can follow what you're doing at that speed? Or is that the point--you don't want us to imitate it?! LOL. Either way, it's beautiful!! ;)

Thank you! Indeed, I never meant it to be a tutorial.

Ah, I watched it again 3 months later after watching many a weaving video, and now I totally understand the process! Would take a lot of practice to replicate but I get what you did! So cool. :). And yes, it does say “time lapse,” so touchez!

Beautiful pattern! I really like your peg board. Can you share the dimensions? How far apart are the pegs?

Do you need to use glue to stop it from loosening when it's done?
@alexmandrila

Hi, it will certainly help if you move it sometimes, and necessary if you ever plan to wash in a machine. Though once you flatten from use it tends to keep its shape.
