We are having the same problem! Haven't decided to either buy new rods/springs or get a new washer this one is 10 years old life expendacy for these types of washer new is only 7 yrs. Also some videos show that their are some additional springs that attach to the top of drum and then connect to the rods. They are $10.00 a pair and you install them at the same time the other video's thought that it might have been and mistake at the factory that they are not there. One thought is was an after market fix but the parts are made by the same manufacturer.

I am so glad I found this video!!! We just purchased a house and it came with this same washer and was having this same problem. Purchased the parts at a local shop for $80 and it's so much better! I'm impressed that he was able to do this all himself because even with both my husband and I, we still struggled a bit. We weren't able to tip the washer over all the way though which I think would have really helped. Definitely try this out if your washer is having the same issue!!!

Attention: For anyone considering buying a new machine rather than fix the old one. I can tell you from experience those new machines (no matter who the manufacture is) look great and have tons of load capacity with no center agitator BUT those new machines DO NOT use as much water and they do not clean & rinse the clothes as well as these older machines. I know the thought of using less water to some of you sounds like an ideal water conservancy practice BUT the reality is these new machines are engineered to use less water just like the new shower heads / control valves and the toilets. I own a couple homes and have replaced the old washers & dryers that came with the homes with the latest and greatest equpment money could buy. Trust me you will not be happy with the performance of the newer machines. Ladies how well do you like the new shower water limiting valves & shower heads that are not able to rinse the shampoo out of your hair adequately. You end up standing in the shower twice as long to just rinse your hair. Or how about having to flush the new toilets..you end up flushing 2 or 3 times to get rid of the solids. The new washing machines are engineered the same way. So much for "water conservation" eh! You end up using more water - not less. *There is a way to trick the new washing machines to put more water in but its a stupid hassle. And when you spend $6k like I did on new washing machines a 'hassle' wasn't on my list of expectations. Just sayin'. Good luck. And God bless!

You are sooooo right !! I picked up my top loading washer n it also has this problem with the drum banging around… but I clean rich peoples homes n I hate their expensive washer/dryer sets … dryer takes over 2 hours to do a small load of towels. ??? And nothing in the washer gets that clean either .. n there are no soak cycles at all…. Saves water but not your clothes or whatever you’re washing …
@rapturebound197
@rapturebound197 2 года назад
@@leighboschen3399 hi Leigh. To trick these new washing machines pour 3 large pitchers of water on top of the clothes you put in. I know its a hassle but the reason you have to do that is because when you just load the machine and hit start the machine senses how much water to put in by the weight of the clothes. The clothes are dry so they're lightweight and these new machines are programmed to not put much water in ...but if you get the clothes wet they're heavier which in turn tricks the machine into putting more water in. It thinks it has a much heavy load that requires more water. Without a center agitator they still don't clean as well as the older machines did but that's just how they're made now. :( Regarding the drum on your washer banging around.. there are some good YT videos on how to fix that. Its not that hard really. You may have to sort thru a few YT videos out there to find the right video on your model/brand but I'm guessing somebody out there has some good step by step DIY tips on what needs to be done. Good luck! I hope that makes sense and take care!..its a crazy world we're living in these days! Bye.

I just changed the rods, no springs because they dont have them from factory. ran a load and she is fixed didnt bang around one time the whole cycle. 😀😀😀 had the wife help me by holding up the tub while I removed the old rods and replaced the new ones only took 10 minutes. It really makes it easier if you have someone pull up on the tub while you do the rods. UPDATE: it's starting to bang around for few seconds but not nearly as bad as it used to. before the new rods.

Also the damn lid lock gets in the way of everything. It's such a pain in the ass. I'm tired of this. It makes no sense to me. It just ends up costing more money I could put towards another machine. The difference between the new rods and old rods is the top plastic piece on the spring is very tight on the new Springs and very loose on the old Springs so I think it's almost like a breaking dampening feature so once you lose that braking feature it's just going to pounce on the Springs willy-nilly with no dampening effect to slow down the bounce

I shortened the rods 1-1/2 which tightened the machine up but it still wobbled starting up . I guess the real problem is that the upper spring bushing is not supposed to be able to slide so the spring is actually working up and down from both ways on top of the spring and bottom allowing to much movement . The difference is in the plastic side were the rod is going trough , that gets wider so loses it grip or resistance . it simply wears out what causes friction or a damping effect like shock absorbers of a car . Solutions are simple always to problems . The spring stays oke because that is what springs do , they last ..

MANY machines were made with this problem. Mine is AMANA... exact same washer. Good idea to use the OLD ROD to help pull up on the new rod to install it. Nobody else mentioned that. It's a good idea to do 2 of them at one time. That way you don't have to lift up the WHOLE weight of the tub. It seems the manufacturer RECALLED thousands of these washers and they simply installed MODIFIED rods in them. Watch the video by this guy who shows how to modify your OLD shock absorber rods and no need to purchase new rods!! If you purchase NEW shock rods, they are the UNMODIFIED old rods!!! so you still have the problem! I modified my rods as described in this guys video: Shaky, Loud, Banging, Walking Washer?.. Whirlpool Kenmore, Maytag, Roper, Samsung, LG, GE Washers - RU-vid and I used a different kind of hose than he recommends. My washer bounces a LITTLE bit now and then straightens out and runs OK. SO.... I will have to try using a different kind of rubber hose as he recommends. The problem is in those rods. I refuse to trash my old washer. I think this is fixable, just need maybe a more flexible hose. The hose I used is kind of firm, not flexible.

This video is great but whoever came up with this design for whirlpool deserves a raise, not. I'm sure it is a way for those old washing machines which should run forever have a very limited life. I mean, what company could sell a new washer if the old ones lasted. Bottom line, trying to make a damper from a small friction device is idiotic. Gas springs with damping makes perfect sense and although they also wear out over time would work substantially better.

@@PatriotMarine Niice. I wanted to know. I have only installed the springs which seemed to have done the trick for now. But now I know a next step. Thank you.

The rods I bought are 2 inches longer than the first set. That won't work, will it?

Bad design. They figured if they made something that lasted for years they would make no money! If only they stuck to what works we wouldn't be dealing with this.

The small cup on top of the spring actually grips the rod, works as an absorber. The rubber/foam material deteriorates.

Do them one at a time it's a lot easier! You don't have to pickup the whole tub weight. It's not light! There are better videos showing you how to do it.
