Wow. I’ve heard that they are doing a lot of “work-arounds” rather than fixing the issue. I hope Ryonet/ROQ fixes this issue. Keep us posted

I have been told countless times that these units are working all around North America, but it sounds like those users are happy to lift the heads and deal with the other issues. If you have a couple bigger presses then the PRU would probably still have a NET time savings, but if it's your only press like me - it only makes setups longer. Ryonet has confirmed they are working on this issue specifically for me so no shade thrown on them except for how long it's taken and how much effort I've had to put in to convince them it's a real issue - but they're working on it for my computer-to-screen system. As far as I understand there is no solution in progress for the Pre-Registration Unit.

Don't worry buddy, I'm working on getting it prioritized! If you don't have Eco frames a solution exists for you already and has existed for years. There is an adjustable platen that will solve this problem, and some 'lucky' shops have been running them without having to lift heads for years. If you have Eco frames, a specific bracket to address this height problem AND a different Eco frame issue are coming soon. In the meantime, please hit up Ryonet support about this! A big part of the problem is that I'm the only person bringing it up. An even bigger part of the problem is all the shops trying to say I'm an idiot and should just lift the heads up, but that's a story for another video.

Cory @ Floodway Print Co. I totally agree with you. Lifting the heads should not be our problem. A solution will be able to have the heads down, not lifting in between heads, and to work with the reg system. I want to be able to let the staff work with the press and have sound of mind that the press has no chance of getting damage without me watching over every setup.

@@MyCityScreenPrintingLaMesa Apparently we've just been sold the wrong platen... I have seen P08 presses, which are even smaller, spinning perfectly fine but the platen is different. No modifications.

Could you not index in the opposite direction? That way the blocks on the PRU will not scrape along the screen that you have just locked into place. You would of course need to make sure that the next head you index to does not have a screen already locked in place.

If the heads are down it will hit the back clamps, so going the way wouldn’t help unfortunately. It’s since been solved but I haven’t had time to make a video. There are pallets with lower profiles than the one that many of us have been sent.

I'm a design engineer and I see stuff like this all the time. That is not fit for purpose. If it was a cheap or DIY setup, that would be bad, but acceptable. Anyone buying this press is a pro, so it should work straight out of the box. As a fix, I'd probably take that L-bracket off the setup platen and visit a local engineering shop and have them machine some height off it, (provided you can still get screws in), or replicate one in a lower profile. You could always have one made with threads in and lower profile and screw up through the bottom of the platen if there is not enough height in the bracket profile for boltheads. I'm sure Ryonet will come through - Ryan provided me with incredible customer service when something once fell through their end. If you can find some original drawings or measure dimensions, I will look at designing a 3D model for a new part for you in CAD with engineer drawings. You can take the drawings to a machine shop for fabrication, if you have to fix this issue yourself. Maybe get 5 made, then sell 4 so you get yours free. If you make sure the flash is cool during setup, we could prototype the new part with a functional plastic 3D print. I'm in the UK, so it will take a few weeks to get to you, but I'd be happy to help out, dude at no cost to you - you've shared a lot of great advice to help people on here. Let me know if you need help with this and I'll tell you what I need to create a solution that works for you and your shop.
@PaulSaitta1971

I agree, shave off some height on the stops. that is a 10 minute job for most machine shops to fix that. from the video it doesn't even look like you would need to modify the cap screws. you could go with a shaved cap screw if you needed more space. @ 2:29 looks like it's simple fix to shorten the bracket.
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo 4 года назад
They've already been machined down to their specs and still smack the clamps. It needs to be modified a bit more than removing a bit of material to clear the brackets. If it was a simple fix it'd be done! And my goal is to have it fixed for everyone, so that you don't buy it all together only to realize you need to choose between the modifications or the drawbacks in the video.
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo 4 года назад
Thanks Richie. I think it definitely is figure-out-able. Sounds like ROQ is working on it in their own fab shop. I'd love to make another video with it working together because once this issue is resolved it should save a ton of time on press. I appreciate your help a ton though! The CAD drawing seems like the expensive part haha. I will reach out for sure if Roq doesn't come through and we'll open source this shit! I feel like it's getting the attention it needs now. There are a lot of presses out there working around this so they'd all benefit even if they don't care about lifting the heads or risking their equipment.

@@CoryFloodwayPrintCo Cool Corey - if you don't end up with the results you need, you know where to find me. Hopefully it sounds like a solution will not be too far around the corner through Ryonet / Roq - it would be better for them to sort it anyway as they can integrate the solution into their kit, moving forwards. If you don't end up with any joy, I'm confident we can figure out a clean redesign that will work seemlessly for you and your equipment. Hit me up if it comes to that and we can trade thoughts before I hit the CAD and then open source it. It would be awesome to see it working as intended, wherever your solution comes from. Looking forward to seeing that video! Take care man, Richie

Could the bump stops be shaved down at all?
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo 3 года назад
Yes, somewhere in the video I mentioned they sent a tech out, who brought it to a machine shop. These have already been lowered by Ryonet and were still hitting the clamps and I was given various workarounds like lifting the heads and just being careful not to smash the flashes. Since posting, there has finally been some action. I have the 'new' bracket now and will be making a video showing that it actually can all work together now. The problem before is that the mounting hardware prevented the bracket from being shaved down enough.

is it because you have the pallet so far back?
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo 4 года назад
Nope but good catch, it is as far out as it can be. It's because the contact points are too high. They need a lower profile contact point like the ones they provide for CTS users. Both on the platen, and on the PRU. These contact points are about 16mm off the platen and everything would be fine if they were like 12mm high instead.

Couldn't you just put the screen in the cleaning position once you've registered it with the PRU palet? Then once all your screens are registered you can remove the PRU pallet and put them back down. Also I'm pretty sure that flash will raise up to get out of the way with the twist of a knob. This seems like not too big a deal and pretty simple to avoid. IMHO
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo 2 года назад
Of course you can lift all the heads. But lifting the heads cancels out time savings during setups. It’s not designed to work that way. Not to mention that it’s simply a pain in the ass. You’re right it’s not a big deal and pretty simple to avoid by sending people the correct platen. Which they are more aware of now, thanks to this video. You’re free to settle for whatever you want though and lift your printheads.

@CoryFloodwayPrintCo
@CoryFloodwayPrintCo 2 года назад
@@cheddarcheese Yep you're totally correct there, no reg platen to load which would make a huge difference. Placing pins in the frames is a variable and cost too but at least it happens off the press, not during production time. Super interested in the MHM presses but worried about the service based on interactions I've had trying to get info about them. What I meant was the principles are the same in that it's not more accurate, but simpler to use is a huge win. Simplicity increases accuracy!

@@CoryFloodwayPrintCo The service angle is a fear factor sales tactic. The MHM machines rarely need service anyway. Seriously true. Three factors are eliminated with the MHM system as well. (1) Human frame loading into your DTS and then reg pallet. (2) The absence of mounting and unmounting the TriLoc pallet knock off. (3) Heck, we don't ever use registration marks anymore. Time and back strain is gone from taping them up after set up to run is gone now @Carson Edwards
