They must have geniuses in INDIAN Railways. They allow the truck driver to just hang around in his truck or sit outside on the flat bed while the train is going at max speed allowed. How about a few passenger compartments at the back for the drivers. Amtrak runs a similar service for cars and perhaps the Railways minister can come and ride that and then show his people in india how to do it right.

The Trucks' wear & tear of the parts during the Road journey is saved, plus diesel, lub oil plus highway tolls, Tyre wear, etc along with the driver's fatigue are saved. The Rly freight Charges are not as much.(Google to get the latest on Konkan Railways) The driver's enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. It is about 800 plus Bridges across the wide valleys & rivers and some 60 tunnels.

This is a roro service of kongan railway. RORO means Roll-on/roll-off, where loaded trucks are directly carried by railway wagons to their destination. Konkan Railways passes through tough terrains of India. There is NH-66 passing through same route. The KRC came with concept of RORO, where loaded trucks are moved on wagons and are travelled by train. This has helped in saving of fuels, decrease in wear and tear of lorries (trucks), relief to drivers of driving in extreme conditions, can reach faster to destination. This also helps in decongestion of roads and lowering of pollution. This concept has been beneficial for both truck operators and KRCL
